    Got it done this morning.

    It was off

Truck has been drifting right lately (probably last 2500 miles)

Toe was really off that was the main thing wrong

Also the left side was worse than the right

Drives and straight as an arrow now. Big difference in the ride.

I have a 00 Silverado auto with a 5.3 and have had troubles with it for 6 months now. It started when I put it into reverse one day it showed it on the dash but just sat there. It has done that 4 times now in the past 6 months. Also one day I stopped at a red light when it turned green I acclerated and went nowhere it just revved up finally after fooling with the shifter it took off. Then yesterday put from reverse into drive and it showed drive but went in reverse did it twice finally went into drive. Took it to the dealer today but wanted to find out if anyone else has had these issues. Thanks, Scrappy6

how is ride different? better or worse?
  • morin2morin2 Member Posts: 399
I got mine by surprise - these were sent out by GM as direct Email promotion to people who had requested info from a GM website. In my case, the dealers had no info on the new Trailblazer/Envoy so I requested info from the website (April or May). There was no advance word that coupons were coming; I got mine on July 20.
The coupons are 1 per vehicle (too bad because a glitch with GM server sent me about a hundred), non-transferable and expire Oct 1, 2001.

there is a software update for the delayed engagement problem (engine revs up but truck won't move), but the business about going in reverse when the indicator shows drive is a new one I've never heard of. Let us know what they report to you.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
    the ride improved.

THANKS FOR THE INFO, UPDATE FROM DEALER THEY SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE A PRESSURE SWITCH THEY ORDERED ONE AND SAID IT SHOULD TAKE A DAY OR SO TO BE READY. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT TOOK CARE OF THEM BUT THEY NEVER HEARD ABOUT THE REVERSE THING EITHER. THANKS AGAIN

Well I'll be darned - I think they fixed it. Guess that means I can kiss the '02 goodbye. After replacing the rear axle, which fixed the rear lean, they sent it to a body shop (my '01 Silverado). Just got off the phone with the body shop manager. He stated they just about pulled the entire body off the frame, shimmed it up in an area, checked everything out, tightened it back up and when I measured it today, it was dead on LR to RR and LF to RF. The back sat about 2 inches higher than the front, but believe that's normal, but the lean is gone. Now I have noticed one other thing, a rattle coming from the RF tire area whenever I go over a bump, and it's a loud rattle. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks again,
    Barry

DOnt feel so bad about your tailgate protector

We rented a machine to take our flooring up. Me and my dad worked on that today (fun stuff)

Well we took it back and taking it off my truck i knicked off a chunk of paint where there is no sprayin liner on the tailgate (in the crease)

This aint no small chunk either.

That's just the shims falling out.

Good luck. I got some goofy noises too.

Yea, I think that same glitch has knocked their server down. Everytime I submit a request it cannot connect to the next page/server. Go figure! I am thinking of trading in my lease on the purchase of a new truck and ANY money off would help!!!!

Has anyone used the GM "bed rack system" - seen in the 2001 Silverado brochure (no page numbers, but its the 7th small photo on the bottom of the page showing accessories like splash guards, etc.) ?

Anyone else have success carrying kayaks with ladder racks ? I figure I can carry the kids' 2 kayaks (11 1/2' long) in the bed with tailgate down but mine and the wife's 16 1/2' would go on the rack. Would like to use my Yakima kayak saddles - does anybody make a ladder rack with round crossbars ?

So many hobbies, so little time...

today went down to southern indiana to do some hiking and sight seeing basically. Well we were leaving and the weather was getting real bad. I kept getting these warnings over the radio (not fron the radio station or weather broadcast)

Basically warned or tornados, hail, wind, rain etc

Visibility at times was near 0. Pretty much sucked. Glad i had autotrac. Worked awesome.

I know the impala's have a thing where if bad weather or traffic warnings come about they will break into your radio transmission and tell you. Is this the same for the silverados? Never had this happen before it was kinda wierd.

Also when we left we put our shoes in the bed. Drove about 50 miles in terential downpour. Got to a gas station stopped for drinks and the bed of my truck didnt have a drop of rain in it. Guess i was going to fast and the water was going right over the bed

    Also went over 19K miles

got my best tank of gas ever 17.8 mpg

    dont have onstar

wasnt available on a 2000 LS

(i dont think i really would have wanted it anyway)
  • eric2001eric2001 Member Posts: 482
Head unit has traffic announcements & weather alarms come on also. I didn't know the factory radio did this... Onstar doesn't offer anything like this.

Could it be some service from your local weather people? Maybe some type of cross FM signal that allows a broadcast to cover multiple stations/signals. Just guessing here but I'm sure that GM would have listed this option if it were installed.
    Check the air pressure. HEHEH

When the '88s came out there was a built-in booster feature that could be activated by manipulating some buttons. Nothing whatsover in the Owner's manual about it. I don't remember now how it was discovered but it was written up once as a Tech Tip in a mag. After a couple years it was gone. Some Dealers actually charged Customers who came in wanting it activated. Go figure.

This is 2nd year I have gone up in mid-August, my sister & brother in-law go every year for past 6 years now & I can see why. They also have a boat and SeaDoos to speed around the lake, I go for the camping. Just heard today they had 2 people drown past week up there, it seems they went swimming off their boat without dropping anchor or tying themselves off to boat, it drifted away and they sank to the bottom, no brains to much alcohol!
Last year was first time with new truck, rained like hell the 1st 2 days and flooded me out of campsite and after returning home it took 2 weeks to get the tree sap from the pines off, swore I'd never go back. Well this year had a little dryer campsite and no pine trees to deal with, just a passing Tornado, geez!
Just got back from Stowe, Vermont this past weekend and heading up to Lake Placid then Watkins Glen 1st week of September.
19,000 miles on Rado and love it! 11.9 mpg towing, best mileage yet towing my trailer. Do things really improve with age/mileage!!!!

I just installed the GM mudflaps on my truck and I thought I would share the information with anybody who is interested.

The part number for the flaps is 12497448. These are 11" wide and have the bowtie on them.

I installed the fronts by turning the wheels, it took about 1/2 hour. The back ones I removed the wheels to make it easier, if you have a stubby screwdriver you probably wouldn't have to remove the wheels. The rears took about an hour because of wheel removal.

No drilling into the sheet metal is required.

I have the factory flares and the 265 tires and these fit fine.

Let me know if you need more information and I'll be glad to help.

How much did you pay? Are those the normal GM ones you see in the brochures? My rig needs some. They just chip-sealed my road and I can hear the tink-tink way too much.
  • mpalombompalombo Member Posts: 186
I meant to put the price too, I forgot.

They were 13.50 a pair. Yes they are the normal GM ones.
  • jaguar0027jaguar0027 Member Posts: 387
Funny... I just had my truck in for service yesterday and they told me flat out that there was not any GM mud flaps that would fit with stock fender flares???

Looks like I gotta call them back!

I heard the same thing so I asked the guy when I ordered them if they would fit, he said that he wasn't sure but if they didn't then I could return them and there would be no charge. I figured I had nothing to lose so I ordered them. The front tires are close when turned, but not too close.

Glad to hear you had a good time. Did you stay at North Hampton? How is Stowe in the summer? Guess you didn't go to lumberjack comp last weekend... Me either.

Ryan: whats wrong with Lake Placid? Or do you mean from the movie? If so, wrong state...

Well my truck got a new scar

    grrrr

went to blockbuster to rent the dvd hannibal. Leaving this guy is cutting grass (huge lawnmower) next thing you know i hear a boom (like a brick hit my truck) rock flew out from under it. My heart sunk i got out and ill be damned i have 3 knicks on my lower drivers side door. Paint completely gone. NO DENT however. from the noise it made i was sure it would dent.

Got home put some touchup paint on. Looks like crap upclose ,3 bloches. Far away cannot tell (before you could see 3 white spots)

My question any way to smooth out the touchup paint spots? Clay bar?

    Thanks
  • gator36gator36 Member Posts: 294
There is a way, But you will hate to do it...
You will need the finest wet/dry sand paper 1500 grit
or 2000 if you can get it. and wet sand the touch up after it
has had plenty of time to harden. (I know, OUCH, sandpaper to
    my truck)
Then you will need rubbing several grades of rubbing compound.

    Meguires is good.
Medium cut cleaner first. Make sure you don't put too
much on and have a polisher fast enough to break the grit
down over a short time. The medium grit is designed to break down
and become a finer grit over a short period of time.

Then use the fine cut cleaner. Same as the medium.

    Then use the Swirl remover

    Finish with the wax...

I know it is alot of work. But it pays off
I had to work on my last truck after off roading. Black GMC 1500 extra cab.
I had to remove the "desert pinstriping".

    Good luck...
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Thanks i had my tailgate wet sanded a few months ago. I might wait for some more nicks to mount up and have the local bodyshop do the work

Id rather not F it up
  • gator36gator36 Member Posts: 294
It took serious man parts to put sandpaper on my truck the first time..
But people couldn't tell what had been done...
  • txyank1txyank1 Member Posts: 1,010
the Lawn Service Co. fix it. (or pay for it) They have Ins. for that. We had a new dash panel and some a/c vents replaced on our Cutlass because of A rock from a mower that went through the open window. Happened where my Wife works.

will work just fine....why hire it out though?

I'm wondering if anybody out there has installed nerf bars on a 2002 2500HD yet? I want to order the Westin CPS bars but they don't list an application for the 2002 models and the distributors won't let you return them if the 2001 bars don't fit. Supposedly GM wasn't going to change anything from the 2001/2002 models, but I haven't found anybody to confirm this.

Also wondering if the bars on the HD's mount on the frame directly or mount on the body mount bolts like the 2500ld.

    I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

The crew cab version mounts to the three body mounts on each side.
I am sure all the 2001 versions will fit since GM didn't modify the frame or bodies for 2002. Hope this helps.

I cant really blame the lawn company. Yea the guy did it but not purposely.

Its not bothering me as much today. Doesnt look to bad. More rocks chips will come thats inevitible.

Eric, Appreciate your help. I'm purchasing for an ext. cab, but I'd expect those to also mount to the body mounts as well. It's funny that I've been trying to get help from the distributors and the manufacturer for over a week to no avail. I got a response on this site faster than I could refill my coffee cup. Thanks again.

Don't know if I should be sad or happy. I have one more payment left which means a little over a month and I'll not have my Rado any longer. May try and purchase a new one but it sure would be nice NOT to have a payment for awhile!

Gonna replace the stocker's with some angles.

Are the threads SAE or Metric on the grease fittings?

    Danke!
  • dustyonedustyone Member Posts: 262
    Metric 6mm
  • rayt2rayt2 Member Posts: 1,208
Yes, we were at North Hampton and camped close to the boat launch area, site 221. The only thing that bothers me is No Hookups just a dump station and community water spouts. My grey water always fills before the 4 days are over and I usually run out of potable water too (only have 20 gal potable tank).
Did see a few new Rado's there though, mostly 1/2 ton 4x4's pulling a SeaDoo trailer or boat.

On another note I drove my first shaker the other day, it was a 99 Tahoe, at 60 mph the front end was shakin all over the place. Sure glad my 2500 Rado doesn't have that problem or I'd be heading for a buy back real quick!

    >Well my truck got a new scar
    grrrr<

Ya see...this is why we told ya not to get those first scratches fixed, on the tailgate. You got the full curse now...doom!
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
the tailgate isnt fully fixed. You can still see the scratch when the truck is clean

oh well im over it today but when i see a lawnmower i cringe.

Why does it not bother me when i put a scratch in my truck (loading unloading things).

Did you let the mower operator live?
  • erikheikererikheiker Member Posts: 230
I don't know about you, but I'm hanging onto my truck for as long as I can. I paid my 89 off in two years and kept it for a total of 11.5 years. It sure was nice not having those payments for nine years! I'm paying off at least a thousand of my principal each month, so I'll be done with payments next year. Then I'll enjoy another nine or so years of no truck payments. It's the only way for me to go.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Yea i actually kept my cool (main reason was gf was with me) and i realized it really wasnt totally his fault. he didnt mean to do it.

I had my brother try and find the damage today and he couldnt until i pointed it out.

    damage area then eh?

    it's a truck Pal..get over it
