p.s. The Moaning has only occurred while I was the only person in the van ... so, No, there was not a couple hiding behind my 3rd row seat!
I have had times when old fluid began to make the components noisy.
Have you had your air conditioner checked? It may be low on refrigerant.
Kia rep said company is looking into a fix...minor irritant for me right now.
Of course, this all indicates my ignorance more than anything. I'm sure you're smarter than I was, though.
Moaning noise that comes/goes sounds in right rear likely either a brake dragging, an axle problem or a wheel bearing going out. Any of those could be bad news...better get it to dealer ASAP.
IRT front pax seat, prob coincidence, as no involvement of passenger seat in the oil change process...unless they had to move it to get something out of the pax drawer.
My Kia Sedona provided me with very high fuel economy.
16.8 MPG.
my last tank of gas was on 253 miles by 15 gallons.
My configuration was as follows:
Kia Sedona van ( 4700 lbs approx. )
Uhaul 6x12 Trailer fully loaded ( Trailer wieghs 1,000 lbs empty )
3500 lbs.
Trailer tires at reccomended pressure ( 45 PSI)
Trailer is dual axle style.
Hitch is a Kia brand Hitch kit.
Engine Configuration : Mobil 1 oil 15-50 synthetic.
Engine Speed : 1500 RPM to 2500 RPM depending on terrain.
Engine Temperature: No noticable change from dashboard gauge.
Tires : 44 PSI
Speed: Cruise Control at 55 MPH. Occasional 65 MPH
A/C on for 90 % of travel.
Transmission Gear : 85 % Overdrive 15% 3rd of 4th gear.
Highway : Route 90 NYS Thruway & Route 87 Northway
Terrain 50% flat / 50 % Adirondack Mountains.
I think 16.8 MPG on a 8200 load is pretty good !
P.S. I recently went on a 350 mile trip, i got just shy of 22 MPG down, empty with 3 row seats removed, coming back, loaded literally to the rafters with heavy pottery I got just OVER 22 MPG. I was actually worried about blow out from the weight. Im meticulous with my records so I doubt error, just wonder if anyone knows why.
What "real" horns did you install? I'm leaning towards a couple of Air horns myself, but wondering if there is a direct connect replacement.
I hope that this light thing doesnt drive me nuts now. I just came in from trying everything, fuses, remote, hazards etc. couldnt get the lights to flash EXCEPT on panic. Oh well, Im just happy I dont have problems like others here, IE MPG, rust & such. Happy cruising with your air horns.

however , the windows are tempered glass and they do amplify sound when they are open. but i do not often drive with the windows open back there.
also- as far as nosies- my other vans ( a GMC Safari and a Chevy Station wagon ) they all develop some noises over time.
By generally you get used to them as they grow on you eventually. If I repaired or replaced every thing that rattled or creaked on a car I would be spending a lot of money on my car , over the time frame of 10 years/ 100,000 miles.

Also, a month after we purchased the sedona, we took it to Cincinnati (3 1/2 hours away). We had the air conditioner running. After stopping at a rest area (2 hours into the trip), when we started back on the journey the engine was very sluggish and wouldn't get any pickup for approximately 1 mile. Also, at stops the engine sounded like it was going to stall.
No lights came on, and no other problems to date.
it will need some study.
you may as well start the process of taking it in for evaluation.
1) Fuse box lid continues to pop off. It has a latch but constantly falls off. I now have duct tape hoding it on so my wife does accidently kick all of the fuses whenever she applies the emergency brake. Dealer says it is fine.
2) I have a driver seat that squeaks louder and louder everyday. Dealer is ordering a new one after already trying to fix the original (car was in shop for 5 days).
3) My panic button on the FOB doesn't work.
4) Just after delivery, I noticed a scratch on the back bumper, grease all over the passenger floor mat and a squeaky seat belt at the adjustable level (near the driver's ear). All were corrected at dealership.
5) Gas mileage of only 14 miles per gallon on highway and 12 in the city.
6) Upon delivery, they only had one key. They told me to come back the next day (25 miles on my day off), I did and the tech said he couldn't make me a new key. He said that they are waiting for a special KIA key making machine. He said " go to kmart of something". YIKES
Are folks out there having as much buyers remorse as I am? I feel just sick because my wife wanted the Honda Oddy and I convinced her to let me go with KIA. I was convinced from reviews, message boards and a pleasant test drive that this was KIA's signature vehicle. We have 1800 miles of driving and I wish I could just cut my losses. Help anyone?
I'd expect your mileage to increase as the van breaks in - even over the next 8 or 9 thousand miles. So the EPA estimated 15/20 isn't unrealistic to achieve at this point, imo.

It helps so you don't blow up the engine -- you probably shouldn't idle above 4k anyway when in neutral.

Please see posting #275 in this forum where the poster indicates the same problem and the solution that seemed to fix it from the dealer. I have not tried to get this fixed yet but am hoping this will be my solution as well.
Since I now start the car virtually every day, I have not experienced the problem.
2.) Lifter noise- I have NEVER had lifter noise from my van. I would AVOID buying any Sedona that had it NEW. This means the oil is too low in the engine, possibly the engine has been harmed already. Since these vans do not normally sit around for more than 3 months in inventory , that motor may have suffered some how.
I changed my oil the first time at 1,000 miles with conventoinal oil. After about 10,000 miles I switched to synthetic. I have 26,000 miles now. I never get lifter noise. My car is driven several times a week. The one time it sat for a week I did not note any lifter noise. -- On the other hand , we did have a Saturn SL bought new, and the dealer did the oil changes every 2500 miles with 10-30 oil. I think he must have used inferior product , as the car had wicked lifter noise at 20,000 miles. I started using the synthetic oil in the car and that got rid of the lifter noise on start up.
My husband was able to start the car and drive it home (about 1 1/2 miles). It then stalled out when we started it again and put it into gear.
I called roadside assistance and had the car towed to another dealer this time. I had, had it towed to where I purchased the car the previous 3 times.
This time the car was there for 4 days. I am up to 28 days out of service and 7 weeks ownership. They replaced the cam sensor and the crank sensor. They said these were replaced due to codes received from the computer. Last week when my car was at the other dealers for the same stalling problem, I was told no codes were registered and they could not figure out the problem.
I truly hope this will solve my problem, but I have unfortunately lost faith in this vehicle. I have already contacted a lawyer and the BBB for advise. I only have 900 miles on this vehicle and cannot believe the torture I have gone through this summer.
Family just returned from first major "road trip" 5250 miles. Will post mileage when I get a chance to calculate actual values. Wife says it was 24+ for Interstate, around 16 for town, 20 combined...lower due to driving in the mtns.
i wonder if you were sold a car that had some issue where they ended up taking the car apart and re-assembling it in the field. this would explain the pinched wires.
there was a crank sensor recall on the smaller car, i think an optima, and that was due to a vendor supplying a weak body unit that ended up hitting the crank pully and breaking.
using the good service we have all gotten your attny should be able to build a case for your lemon law. your attny may want to get depositions from fellow bulletin board members to bolster your case.
I've been driving for 3 problem free days since getting the car back on Friday. We were going to take it on a long drive today to "test" it, but after getting your message, I am debating whether that is such a good idea especially with my 2 little ones.....

The answer may well vary from state to state.
It did tell me that there was an emissions test done in NY on March 26th with 12 miles on the car. I also noticed on the work orders that I got after repairs of a delivery date of March 31st.
We had delivery on June 18th with 14 miles on it. It was considered a new car. I noticed the car was manufactured in Jan. 2003.
Is the delivery date the date it entered the US or the date it was bought by someone? Do they do an emissions test before the car is sold?
This is getting interesting....
When they sell it, it's "new" since it was never titled and the full warranty kicks in beginning at the sale (so a 36,000 mile warranty would stretch out to 39,000 miles).
The auto lobby is pretty strong and it wouldn't surprise me to learn that a state law allows them to take a car back within a short period and resell it as new.
It might help to call your local state Attorney General's office and run this by them. Usually they have a consumer protection branch with an auto specialist in house.

We bought a '98 Isuzu Trooper in fall 1999. By the way, I hope our Sedona turns out to be as trouble-free and enjoyable as our Trooper has been. So far so good, with a tick over 25k on our 2002 Sedona EX. Trooper had 7,000 miles on it and had been driven as some sort of courtesy vehicle at Isuzu's U.S. HQ in southern California. After we bought the vehicle, the info we received in the mail indicated that Isuzu considered us to be the new/original owners of the van, even though it had 7,000 miles and a year of use on it. This seems to be similar to a dealer using a vehicle as a demo - Isuzu America must never have titled the truck, and therefore they considered it sold once we bought it from a dealer, who had purchased it at an Isuzu-dealers-only auction a few weeks earlier.
