1) Per the dealers I've talked with (and don't we believe everything they say)you can only do UP TO a 2" BODY LIFT or you void "the" warranty. From what I'm reading and hearing from others there doesn't seem to be much of a concern about this. My order includes the 30" tire group, but I'm really wanting to immediately put a "low" lift and slightly larger tires on, basically just for a "looker effect". What's the general opinion from you on the warranty issue and what I might look for to get the look I want?
2) Does anybody have a grill/remote radar detector installed in their Jeep? I'm looking but can't find alot of information. Passing in & out of small towns as I do, it's really a "must have" for me in anything I drive.
Thanks in advance for your replies
1)Lift, what kind are you going for, suspension or body? what size tires? What size engine are you getting, auto or manual? Axel size? If you have a 4.0L you can go with just about anything if you've got 3.75 gearing or more. But hey, I know people with the 2.5L that run 33's and love them, so it all depends on what kind of highway use your going to do. I'm going for a Teraflex lift and 31's-33's.
2)Lift and a radar detector? Humm... doesn't make sense? You can't really speed with a lift and bigger tires can you?
Check out this lift. The rockcralwer verison is cheaper than the price you have listed for Tera.
The tera is a good system as far as I know though

I don't know of a good place for axles and gears. You may be alright with the ones you have. I think quadratec has them though. I think the 3" would work with 33's, unless you get one of the interco tires. Most tires are not true to the size but the interco tires are. Going for the 4" may be worth it though. It is a tough call. Depends if you ever would want to go bigger.

I hate body lifts and I would not get one. Get a spacer lift or suspension if you can afford it. I would never put a 3" BL on a Jeep. I won't go more than 1". They look ugly and can cause problems. I think the best route is a spacer lift. The warranty issue depends on the dealer. Some will say anything will void it and some won't. Talk to the service manager and find a good dealer to use.
eagle63
They say you can only have 31's. I am sure you could fit 32's but if you off-road the wheels may end up rubbing so I would not put 32's if you are gonna off-road
If you are not going off-road, then why go with 32's? Duh?
I agree with Texasjeep.....I would NEVER get a body lift on my Jeep!!
I'll talk to a local dealership here that I will be using for service issues, see what they say and go from there. I've decided if they void out the transmission warranty then so be it, it's my toy and I wanna have it my way (just like Burger King).
Thanks again for the input!
Spyrodragon:
Yeah, I'd really appreciate the info on the radar detector. Might not ever need it, but always like to know when their coming around me

1. Can larger tires still fit on the 15" X 8" wheels or do I have to upgrade?
2.If so does it make sense to get them. Shouldn't I just purchase the tire/wheel package after market?
3. What are some popular aftermarket tires? I think spyro mentioned thornbirds. Does anyone have a picture.
Thanks Guys! Looking forward to be aprt of the Jeep crowd.
Spyro - thanks for the Quadratec link. Looks like lots of goodies there.
How many of you with the dual tops have taken out the soft top for storage while the hard top is on?
Looks like the soft top is safer where it is - rolled up in the back.
I know that I don't really need a lift to fit 31's but I still think I'm gonna go with 1.5" spacer or maybe a 2 1/2" lift from skyjacker.
Any suggestions?
I'm also getting front and rear ARB lockers. I think front and rear lockers with 31" tires will be better than 33 or 35 without lockers.
What do you guys think.
Here's a few pictures of my jeep after I bought it.
http://hometown.aol.com/dpage35925
I ordered:
4wheeling basics
Moab, Utah with Hummers and Jeeps "GREAT"
Rubicon Trail "Don't have it yet, Back order"
Colorado Trail Volume 1
Colorado Trail Volume 2
Arizona trail
Tellico Trails North Carolina
If anybody has other great videos and would like to trade just e-mail me and we'll go over the details
dpage35925@aol.com
I took my soft top out after the first time I had it up and put the hard top back on. I think the way it comes from the factory it would be OK to be left in, but once you have it up and unfolded it would be a little difficult to get it to fit back into that same small space.
1. The way I understand it the 30" tire group comes with the Dana 44-3 Axle. Now, is that with traction lock or do you need to specify that???
2. I figure the tow hooks and fog lights are a good idea just to get the fog light switch all set up and wired. Yes? No?
3. Is the rear seat removable or does it just flip forward? I actually had to show the salesman how to flip the seat up!
I guess that's about it, I'd like to keep it pretty basic, no Sentry Key, no steps, no add a trunk...
So it's gonna be a Sport, 5 Speed, Air, 30" Tire group, Trac Lock, Cruise, CD, Subwoofer, Hard Top, Deep Tint, Fog Lamps & Hooks. Any thing I missed, any suggestions? I'm gonna try to push him down to 22,000 or so. Does that sound reasonable?
I'm not saying I got the best deal in the world, but any information like this that you can get will better prepare you to get the best possible deal: it will serve as a basis of comparison. I give the whole story of my shopping experience on this web page, and I give all the details about the final deal I made. I also include the coded option list that was actually used by the dealer to place my order. To sum up my deal, I got the new Jeep for $200.00 over invoice and they gave me $1000.00 more than average trade-in value on my Grand Prix that I traded-in on the Jeep.
If you will read the story included on my web page, you will see that there is a HUGE difference in the deal you get from one dealer to another.
Ahmed2r: Just because the dealer is getting a Jeep close to what you want, don't go jumping on it unless he gives you a great deal. Jeeps aren't selling well and there is no back log on orders. It only took me three weeks and two days to get my Jeep after it was ordred! So, my friend, take your time to check at several dealers and be sure to get your best deal. If you order from the factory, you can get exactly the equipment you want.
davidb72: I got the 30" tire and Canyon wheel option, which included the Dana 44, but there are three different canyon wheel options, and I don't know if they all include the Dana 44 or not. I know that the option I ordered was the most expensive of the three canyon wheel groups ($850.00), and it DID include the Dana 44. It does not include trac loc, but if you are already getting the Dana 44, the trac loc is only an extra $285.00, and from all I've heard it is well worth it. I wish I had known the benefit of it when I ordered my Jeep!
If either of you guys need any more info, please feel free to email me. My email address is public on my Edmunds profile.
Best wishes in your search for a Jeep and a deal.

Have you hugged your Jeep today?
Post some pics of that baby! Now, you know you need to give him/her a name, don't you? You don't want to hurt his/her feelings.
Once again, congrats.

Have you hugged that Patriot Blue Sport today?
Then, if you are going to trade in a vehicle, have them make you a trade-in offer.
Next, you can take the printout of the Jeep you want, and go to other dealers, letting them make their offers in the same manner. You will have an apples to apples comparison, because you are getting prices on exactly the same new Jeep. Start with a no-trade-in deal on the new Jeep at each new dealer you go to. Then tell them about your trade-in. If you let them start working a deal after they know what you are trading-in, then you are allowing them to play games with the trade-in, and you won't really know what kind of deal you are getting.
One dealer I went to, the second one, was trying to charge me twice for the Dana 44. I was getting it anyway as part of the 30" tire/canyon wheel package, but he was going to charge me for it again separately! I think it was an honest mistake on his part, but when the mistake was discovered, I'll just bet the dealer would have kept his mouth shut about it, and if I never noticed it, they would have kept the extra profit.
It is really, really important to go somewhere where they have a guy who has experience ordering Jeeps. Even if this doesn't turn out to be where you end up buying, at least you will have the proper options and their respective codes.
I'll help you any way I can, so email me if you need more info.

As for the soft top, I found that with it wraped up in the back it hindered being able to get larger objects into the back with the seat folded forward. It sits right in the middle so anything bigger than the rear hardtop glass window won't go in. But with it out, you can get much bigger objects in the back with the seat folded forward. But I solved this hole thing with a roof rack
I'm basically all confuse now.
Scenario 1
31"x10.5 with a spacer lift (Very inexpensive)
Scenario 2
31x10.5 with 2 1/2" suspension lift and ARB's or OX lockers (Much more $$)
Scenario 3
33x12.5 with 2 1/2" suspension, maybe 1" Body lift, ARB's or OX lockers, change my 3.73 gears for a 4.10, change the front and rear bumpers, 9500 warn winch, roof rack, change my D30 front axle for a D44, change my D44 rear axle for a D60, That would be enough for now. The only problem is $$$$$$$$$$
Scenario 4
36x12.50 .....
I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's no limit. It gets very addicting and that's what I'm afraid of.
Does anyone know of a 6-7" wide flare that does not droop and still looks good?
MSRP- 24305.00 w/dest.
Best offer- 22469.00 w/dest.
2nd best- 22605.00 w/dest.
Edmunds TMV- 22174.00 w/dest.
Guess it's back to the fax machine tomorrow!
Still pushing for 22000.00 w/dest.
They must think I'm a real pain in the [non-permissible content removed]!!!!
Oh, anybody interested in a slightly used Ford Ranger? Probably stupid to get rid of it, but three vehicles is probably too many, and there is no way I'm getting rid of my Miata!
Now, just don't let them screw you on trade-in, if your are going to trade-in a vehicle. I got the new Jeep for $200.00 over invoice AND $1000.00 more than average trade-in value for my Grand Prix GT.
You can just call as many dealers as you want to on the new Jeep, and have them quote you a price in relation to invoice. The trade-in complicates things, though. It would be good to sell your trade-in vehicle yourself, if you can afford to get the new Jeep and still hang on to your trade-in vehicle for a while. In my case, that wasn't possible.
Keep us posted on your progress!

The kid didn't ask me what viscosity oil I wanted, and I just assumed he knew that Thelma should get 10W-30. After I got back to work I thought about the fact that the kid didn't ask me, so I called back to the GM dealership where I had the oil changed and asked what was put in. The kid said he put in 5W-30, so I went back and they drained the oil and put 10W-30 in. The filter was taken off, and as much oil as possible was drained from it. Then it was put back on, since it was a new filter. Now, you can't get all the oil out of the filter, so I ended up with about a half a quart of 5W-30 still in the filter when the 10W-30 was put in. (It only took 5.5 quarts to fill the crankcase the second time, whereas it tool 6 quarts the first time when the filter was also changed.)
Does anyone think that a half a quart of 5W-30 mixed with the 5.5 quarts of 10W-30 will hurt anything. I know you are not supposed to mix oil viscosities, but will just a half a quart really hurt anything?
I went to that GM dealer for service because they have done a good job for me over the years no matter what brand of car I had. They didn't have the right filter in stock and had to get one delivered from an auto parts store the first time the oil was changed. I'm sure they would have changed the filter the second time, but I didn't want to wait around for another filter to be delivered, even though it didn't take too long the first time.
What do you guys think?

On how they're driven. There have been times I was sure I was about to die cause of Spyrodragon's turns. On road and in mud. With the extra weight of a roof rack on top, the TJ was still fine.
Anyway, he has a good point. I think several other people have already mentioned it before. Drive the Jeep like it's meant to be driven and you'll have no problems. That's about it.

You didn't mention a trade-in, and I'm wondering if you made a clean deal with no trade-in? If you did trade in a vehicle, did you have to "take it in the shorts" a little on trade-in allowance in order to get that deal on the new Sahara?

Oil gets trapped between the outer shell of the filter and the pleated paper around the center tube. The anti-drainback valve keeps the oil from running out the holes around the circumference of the end plate, which is the path the oil takes to get into the filter, and the paper keeps the oil from going into the center tube when there is no suction to pull it through the paper. The oil that is still in the center tube is what runs out when a used filter is first unscrewed from the engine block.
You are right about the possibility that the gasket might not seal good the second time the filter is installed. I was worried about that and had the kid check for a leak after I started the engine and let it run a few minutes.
I'm still afraid that it might let go all at once, and I think I'm going to ask them to put a new filter on just for my peace of mind.
