Wow. I recommend that some catch up on the growth of the ice caps the last couple of years. As well, they might want to catch up on the misleading interpretation of data that the global warming group was caught in several years ago when emails were exposed.
Otherwise, I would also suggest avoiding this political topic because others have differing, varied opinions on this highly scientific topic that has been hijacked as a political financial issue by the carbon TAX folks.

I take a different approach - is it "possible" that, since the industrial revolution in the 1880's-1890's, the Earth has been warming at its surface due to increased levels of certain gases as well as pollution? I don't know whether it has or hasn't, but I cannot say for sure that there is no justification for climate change due to global warming.
What I am trying to say is that I am on the fence, so to speak, much like an agnostic is on the fence in regard to the existence o God. My take is that global warming may or may not be occurring - I am not convinced one way or the other.
I may never be of the opinion that global warming is fact or fiction.

Everyone else (you too @snakeweasel), been there, done that - we aren't going to change anyone's minds about global warming in here so let's just skip ahead to the next topic please. Like, is anyone shopping for cars at month/quarter end?
And with all the end of the month buying frenzy, when will the automakers start changing their month end for bonus purposes? Seems like a brand could make some hay by encouraging killer deals mid-month (but then they'd get killed at month end I suppose).

Actually, deals "can" be better at the end of the month. It really depends on whether or not the dealership has achieved its volume goal got the month. In most cases, goals are only achieved through aggressively selling cars at rock-bottom prices At the end of each month.
The two dealerships I worked for would take any reasonable deal at the end of the month even at 0 profit or even at a slight loss in order to reach sales goals. I remember one deal I made when I was a manager where we had a net loss on the car - behind invoice and behind hold-back. But that's what was needed to sell that last car of the month. Sometimes the saying. "...whatever it takes..." Is actually true.
I would recommend to anyone looking to lease or buy a car to do it on the last day of the month - it's the best time to buy a car. You may have to settle for a second or third choice in color or equipment, but the deal would be worth it!

In the dealerships I worked at, both of which were number 1 in national sales volume for Lexus and Infiniti, respectively, each would take almost any deal, within reason including slight losses, on the last day or two of any month, whether they had met their sales quotas or not.
It is quite possible other dealerships operate differently, but if you go to a high volume dealership, chances are you will get your best deal at the end of the month.

My new car is at the port in Georgia (Brunswick). I was told that the cars are prepared at that port and then go directly to the dealerships from there - they no longer go through Jacksonville. They expect my car to be at the dealership by next week sometime.
Now I am beginning to get s little excited about the prospect of taking delivery on my birthday (October 10th) which would be perfect!

Mike, here is my question. When does the sale actually get counted. Since it sounds like you have to take a car from stock, it sounds like you have to buy and take delivery by the end of the month.
When we bought the Passat the dealer asked if I could forward the purchase date to the next month? It didn't matter to me so I said sure. He probably had his quota for the current month, but wanted to get started on building the next month. Maybe dealers mess around with that too. If they make one months quota, maybe stall deliveries so they go into the next month....what do you think?

Earlier this year Porsche recalled every single version of its GT3 sports car because the engines were catching fire. And now this has happened.
The 918 Spyder, a hybrid supercar valued at $825,000, caught fire yesterday at a gas station near Toronto, Canada.
According to witness reports, the gas overflowed and then ignited from the heat of the exhaust. The 918 uses a unique exhaust layout, with the exhaust pipes exiting upward, rather than out the back.
The car is believed to belong to Michael Wekerle, a man described as “Mick Jagger meets Warren Buffett” and the CEO of investment firm Difference Capital. Wek, as he’s known, is also a star of the hit CBC show “Dragon’s Den” (the original show "Shark Tank").

The buyer got a great deal, IMHO. I really expected it to get bid up some, but it didn't. Oh well. After fees and whatnot, I wound up getting about $300 less than I paid for it a few years back.
stick - Acura looks nicer than I pictured in my head, but still a buttload of miles. $2500 and take $2200 or even $2k if you get hard up. Granted, dealers would have the TL listed at $4k-$4500, but you are dealing with a Craigs audience. Have you considered Ebay on that one?
Volvo ... I dunno. I mean, that's a $5500 auction car, so not a lot of room there. what did the dealer offer you? $5k?

Q, dealer without seeing it said about 5K, possibly adjusted for condition. Plus the 1K loyalty bonus. So yeah, at this point, not much of a spread to asking. I can keep that one if I have to get that low on price. Not like it will depreciate much more in another year/2-3K miles. And I need something to drive for the next few years.
I also have no desire to try out Ebay at this point.
I may drop the Acura to $2,500 next time I update. Not desperate to sell, but I do want to clear the space! Local Acura dealer actually has the identical car (year/color) listed for 4K but it has 199,000 miles on it. Odd to see that at a new car dealer.
Looking at the ads once you get into the low/mid 2's, there is a lot of needy/ugly/scary crap out there. Yes, this has miles, but cleaner by far than most of the other cheap cars. I still think once someone comes they will snap it up. Just need to get them out.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
The Volvo, not so much. I expect Volvos are going to be a bit of a hard sell.
If I don't sell the Volvo I will take it as a sign that I should keep it for a couple of years as my spare car. My wife kind of likes it, and won't mind if I steal her car if I need to travel. Plus, it is probably in that gray area, where it depreciated enough (crossing the magic 100K mark) that a couple more years of low miles probably won't change the value all that much. certainly less than a new car will depreciate!

Yes, you must take delivery on or before the last sales day for that month. On the case you mentioned when the dealer asked if you could take delivery the first of the following month, the answer is yes and no! In the dealerships where I worked, "immediate delivery" was the way they worked whether they hit quotas or not. Delaying delivery of a new car by a day or two is risky - the buyer could go to another dealer and beat our price. Remember, until and unless that car leaves the dealership property with the buyer driving the car, possession has not occurred. Without that possession taking place, the deal can be cancelled by either the seller or the buyer.
2024 Genesis G90 Super-Charger
Can I cancel between now and delivery day? I thought the contract was the factor.
In the case of the Passat, the deal was all normal, they just wanted to move the final contract up to November, even though the car came in in October. They offered to give me something to do it, but it didn't matter to me so I just did it.

"You mean the dealer can change his mind and not sell me the new Mercedes even though I put $3000 down. A contract is a contract if money changes hands right.....shouldn't be dependent on me driving away."
I don't know if the same is true in Canada, driver. Down here in the U.S., there are State statutes that govern large dollar purchases mainly to protect the consumer, not the seller.
Let's assume that you sign a lease and the dealer wants you to take possession of the leased vehicle immediately. You, on the other hand, cannot take delivery because you are leaving town in 1 hour and won't be back for delivery of the car for 1 week.
One week later, you return home to Tampa, FL. And you have a heart attack and you are rushed to the hospital. Delivery of the vehicle is again delayed.
Three weeks later, you return to the dealership to take delivery. The dealership tells you they sold the car you leased. They claim that the contract became null and void due to the fact that you did not take delivery of you car in a reasonable amount of time.
On contract law, there are 3 required rules for a contract to be legal:
OFFER - the dealer offers a car to you for a specific price.
CONSIDERATION - the price is $500 per month with $2500 due at signing. You agree and give the required down payment etc.
ACCEPTANCE - even though you sign the contract a provide the monies (consideration), there must be provable acceptance - taking possession of the car.
If just one of the above requirements is not fulfilled, the contract is unenforceable and becomes null and void.
But, the dealer can offer you another car as a replacement for the same or similar terms, but the process must begin anew with new paperwork, signatures, etc. the dealer is required to return your deposit so long as it can be proved that you could not accept delivery for the above reasons.
It gets complicated as you can see. But you can refuse delivery (acceptance is not forthcoming) and thus the contract becomes void or unenforceable because ACCEPTANCE did not occur.
In your case, you have a signed contract to purchase a car at an agreed-upon price. It also includes a trade. I am sure your contract states that the trade is subject to reappraisal at time of delivery.
There are some attorneys here who might be able to explain thing better than I did.
2024 Genesis G90 Super-Charger
I would think there would have to be a serious reason for breaking a contract.
So, if your quota for October was filled, and someone was buying a car on the evening of October 31st, you wouldn't change the contract to say it was signed Nov 1st to get you started on November's quota.
When I was in book sales I would just try to reach my quota for the year to get my bonus. I didn't want to exceed it too much...I wouldn't get much extra and the following year they would raise my quota 10%, so the more I went over the more I would have to go over the following year.
No wonder I was such a bad employee and got canned 3X in a row.
2017 MB E400 , 2015 MB GLK350, 2014 MB C250
as I suspected, when someone finally came to look, they would realize it was better than the usual crap in the price range, and pull out a bunch of Benjamins and take it home with them. And that is what happened.
relieved to have trimmed the fleet. Now, if someone does show up and wants the Volvo, I could be down to none. And we all know what that means.

I don't think so unless the salesperson was going door to door like a Kirby salesperson and initially sold you the car that way. There was some concern years ago about tent sales and buyers backing out because they didn't buy the car at the dealers. Then it was determined (by a court I suppose) that the tent or parking lot sale was simply an extension of the dealer. Plenty of dealers made potential buyers do the deal at the store though, and probably still do.
And in the US, for the few things that do trigger a cooling off period, that period is three days.
Source? Just skimming posts here for a decade plus. Lots of AG sites talk about this though, like Georgia's.
There's probably some exceptions - NJ gives you a day to review lease contracts and California has something about used cars I think.

Regarding cars in Ontario Canada, once you sign the car is yours, except in these extreme cases:
In Ontario, there is no "cooling-off" period after you have signed a contract; however, there are certain conditions that can trigger a consumer's right to cancel a contract with a dealer.
General Regulation 50 of the MVDA allows a customer to cancel a contract within 90 days if the dealer and contract fails to disclose (or fails to disclose in a timely way):
The previous use of the vehicle as a taxi or limo.
The previous use of the vehicle as a police or emergency service vehicle.
The previous use of the vehicle as a daily rental (unless the vehicle has subsequently been owned by someone other than a dealer).
The make, model, and model year of the vehicle.
That a vehicle has been branded (irreparable, salvage or rebuilt), and how last classified.
The actual distance the vehicle has travelled. When that cannot be determined, a dealer must make the appropriate disclosure statement.
So, unless the dealer broke any of these rules, once you sign and receive payment a car has been sold and the contract is binding.

First the Plasma crapped out on Sunday, after 8 1/2 years of flawless performance, so we took it to the dump and got a new Vizio 60 inch LED. (should have kept the Toshiba speakers as they were good). Now I need surround sound to make up for the poor Vizio speakers. Then today we had a new dish and receiver with HD installed which we like a lot.
Then I called on a tractor I've been bidding on for a while on ebay which expired (reserve not met). We agreed on a price including delivery from NC. When he got here I said I need more room in the garage since the tractor has a blade on front so he agreed to take my Polaris quad in trade along with $5.450 cash. Now the roll bar hits the garage door so I have to get a portable welding guy to shorten the bar about 3 inches. It's in the garage, but I'm afraid to back it out as going in just pushed the door up and backing out will tear the door out of the tracks. Oh well...you'll have that.

@driver100:
Driver, from what I understand, you have a contract with a dealer to buy a 2015 Mercedes E400 Sedan with certain options and a specific cash value trade allowance for your 2012 BMW 535ix. What I would suggest is that you have your dealership update the contract to include the VIN number (which we know they have by now) and an approximate delivery date. That way, you have a contract for a specic car which makes it a more precise contract.
