1992 Isuzu Rodeo with 3.1 and standard transmission. Ignition module, fuel pump, and computer replaced. Engine will turn over but will not start. Voltage to the injectors but they will not pulse. Check engine light comes on when key is turned on and fades in and out. Have pulled and put back all of the relays under the hood. I have run out of ideas and I wanted to know if anyone else has run into this problem. Thanks

did you get this problem resolved? I'm having the same problem, have replaced the transmission to no avail, and would like to salvage some of my $3000 investment in the new transmission.

1995 Rodeo had Check Trans light flashing and wouldn't go into drive. Checked transmission fluid and it was empty. Put in a quart and was able to drive it. Know how many quarts is holds? Could this be a sign of a potential big money problem??
  • edhinfledhinfl Member Posts: 9
My 1998 Rodeo holds 10 quarts. Just had it rebuilt for $1300.

Open one line up@ a time then keep adding fluid. til no air comes out. Try and see if that works.

My isuzu rodeo wants to stall after I have driven it for awhile. I have a 5 speed manual. It is fine when I start it up and idles fine. It only does it after driving it for a long period of time. I do have a ECT sensor warning code. Could this be the problem?

I have some what the same problem, but my started when I canged the alternator know the heating and air cond. will not work and battery light, brake light stay on. The amp hand only reads the battery. I have taken it back to the auto parts store to have it checked and I even took it off of the car an had them to check it.An it showed it was charging 14.5 volts. I even check the wires from the alternator to the disconects behind the battery and i could not find any broken wires. I am still looking and if i find anything I will let you know.

Could it be possible your ignition switch is not going fully to 'run' after crank?
  • okmech1okmech1 Member Posts: 19
Did you ever find out the problem? On another car, a Cadilac Calais, similar problem that turned out to be a slightly cut vacuum line that depending on how it was sitting would make or brake the vacuum to control the brake
  • racerxpracerxp Member Posts: 3
That's a shame. and I just made a commitment to keep my 99 and trick it out by lifting and adding a bunch of aftermarket parts. I guess I'll do it cautiously to avoid being hit with any big repair bills down the road. I've lasted this long with little to no problems so and I don't see anything that would change my mind in keeping such a well made machine. I guess cars are like politics, the best don't always survive. It's usually the nut with a great marketing campaign who wins the masses of sheep.

I have a 2000 Rodeo V6 4x4 and within the last couple of months or so the drivers side windshield washer nozzle has essentially stopped working. The water/fluid does dribble out, but does not hit the windshield. I did snake a thin wire thru the 3 holes just to make sure they were clear, and they were. There are no obvious leaks in the hoses.

Is this a sign that the pump is on its way out??? Or could it be something else. Is there anything else that I should look at or try to pinpoint this problem.

    Thanks

When was the last time it had a good tune-up?
  • okmech1okmech1 Member Posts: 19
If it comes out of the passenger side ok, I would guess something in the line between the connection to the passenger side wiper and the drivers side
  • chipper8891chipper8891 Member Posts: 4
It does come out OK on the passengers side. I will "try" to pull off the line this weekend. Any idea's on how easy they come on and off? Its really cold in RI right now. I don't want to pull the hose off and can't get it back on.

I am looking into buying a rodeo and don't know anything about them. Can anyone tell me how dependable they are? Also how long do they normally last?
  • okmech1okmech1 Member Posts: 19
Never had to pull mine off yet, but it shouldn't be harder than a stuborn vacuum hose. Maybe check with the parts store to see if they have any new line so if you break it (or if you have to cut it) you can just splice in some new line.
  • okmech1okmech1 Member Posts: 19
    Bernna,
The year does have some to do with it, but from my experience and what I've seen, they are pretty good. I own a 2001 with about 75000 miles and I've had very minor problems - one was a small coolant leak from an o-ring on a crossover housing, this apparantly is a common problem for my year range. I also had a problem with my rear brake hardware failing, but this was after I was doing a daily paper route for a few months (hell on the brakes).

A frind of mine owns a 1999 and has had only minor problems too.

i have 76k on my 01 rodeo. when is the best time for a timing belt change - i hear various times?
  • sphylesphyle Member Posts: 2
Hi, I have a 1999 isuzu rodeo and have been having idle issues, seems like the throttle gets stuck (I am a girl so bare with me on the mechanic terms) so I brought it in the day that I thought I was going to hit my building at work because it didn't want to stop. Of course when I brought it in it was idling fine, but the repair work said "found IAC was sticking, cleaned and lubricated" which didn't fix it. This morning while driving the throttle, idle what have you, stuck again luckily it was right by the station I first brought it to, they are now going to look at it and let me know. So..I am waiting, but what I have come to the conclusion with it is: it seems when I start it and let it run (warm up) it will run fine but if I start it and take off it will idle high and seems like the throttle gets stuck and I stop put it in park and the rpm's are over 2 in idling and then come back down after a couple of minutes...I am hoping that it's nothing major, I am a single mom...any ideas as to what this could be? Or if someone else has experienced this?
Thank you so much in advance for your help/opinion.

I have the same year, I went with the 60,000 mile suggestion. A friend who has a '99 waited until about 120K. The factory repair manual is actually confusing on the timing of it, saying 100K is good unless you do alot of hard driving / towing and such.

I changed mine out with a Duralast from Autozone, but am probably going to do it again around 100K with either an OEM or Napa belt just to make sure the quality is top of the line.

I'll give you some pointers if you'd like from my experience (just done 2, but know a few tricks).
  • okmech1okmech1 Member Posts: 19
The most common thing I've been told about a sticking throttle problem is due to throttle body being dirty (where the valvle opens and closes). This isn't to bad to do, the air intake duct that comes from the air filter housing and plugs into the front top of the engine (the only really big duct connected to the eng.) has to be loosened, moved forward and out of the way, and this will expose the 'flapper' type valve where you can take some cleaner and a rag and wipe the soot away as best you can.

Another thing that comes to mind is the throttle control. I'm trying to remember my friends '99, but I think it is a cable control, looking back on your post, is that what the IAC was - the interconnect cable? If it doesn't have a cable / pulley device on the upper front of the motor that moves when you press the throttle, then you have what mine (2001) has and is a vacuum type control. if this is the case, it might be something as simple as one of the control lines having a small slit in it or a small piece of trash in the line. these lines can be a bit of a booger to get to as they sit behind the upper intake area, might need to use a flashlight and mirror.

    Hope that helps

Hello, I have an isuzu rodeo 2001, I bougth it on june 2007, the check engine light came on, I took it to an advance auto part, they did a diagnose and it came up with a sensor named camshaft positioning sensor, I bought it, replaced it, the light went off, but now it keeps coming on and off, also the air bag light keeps coming on and off, what can I do about this? And last, but not least, my truck is manual, so whenever I want to change gears its kind of hard, specially the reverse, and I have noticed that the clutch is not as hard as it should be. Where does the clutch liquid refill is located?

1998 Rodeo automatic - the check engine light code says to replace bank 1 number 1 O2 sensor. Could someone tell me which one that is?

Recently the keyless remote stopped unlocking or locking the rear door on 2002 Rodeo Sport. The remote continues to function on the two passenger doors. It will lock the two passenger doors if the rear door has been locked with the key and in turn will only unlock the passenger doors if the rear door has been unlocked by the key. Any thoughts on what to do to correct this would be most appreciated

I have the above error code T0507 on my 1999 Isuzu Rodeo and I was told be the shop that looked at it that I have to bring it to the dealer to get this fixed...the shop that looked at it said that they did all the things it said to do before bringing it in, cleaning some things and so forth, but that was Friday and now today and yesterday it did the same thing, the RPM's get stuck (or that's what it seems like to me-I am a girl so bare with me). Can anyone tell me what I need to do, if the dealer really is the only one that can fix it and if so....is it going to make my bank account down to nothing?
Thank you so much in advance for all the help.

Ok, my 1994 Isuzu Rodeo LS (P.O.S.) broke two belts in the engine yesterday.

    A) I don't know how to move stuff around in there to replace the belts.

    B) Someone told me there may be pulley issues & I don't know how to check those or where to look, as the P.O.S. didn't come with an owners manual.

    C) I've had a 'squeeling' noise for the last few weeks/month every time I start the car, which usually stops after a few minutes. Yesterday, after the noise stopped, all of a sudden the gas, battery & one other indicator all came on & will not go off. I know for a fact that this isn't true, 'cause I have half a tank of gas & the battery seems fine.

    Help!!

I have a 97 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 V6. About 2wks ago alternator belt broke. While able to drive it home, had no fan blower, brake light was on, as well as battery light. Replaced belt and all went away.

2 days ago, battery light on again and same brake light and no fan blower. Replaced alternator with reman from Advanced Auto, still same problems. Alternator tested fine on the bench, but fails test while in vehicle. Advanced Auto suggested factory alternator vs. reman! Anyone had this problem?
  • brown703brown703 Member Posts: 8
Jasen; I have a 97 Rodeo with nearly the same problem. I have replaced the alternator, however heard that a factory original alternator does the trick. I have ordered a Beck/Arnley alternator and waiting on its arrival to try it. Have you any solution to your problem?

I know an O2 sensor is an Oxygen sensor. This is located underneath in the exhaust system. I own a 1995 (bought new) and currently have 190,000 miles on it. I never had to chnage this part out, but from what I hear should not be difficult depending on your skills of taking things apart. But it is an Oxygen sensor and has something to do with fuel economy. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
  • edhinfledhinfl Member Posts: 9
The problem is, there are 4 Oxygen sensors....I need to know which of the 4 is bank 1 number 1.

After 3 alternators, all remanufactured I might add, I went to a local auto electric shop and had a new alternator ($330.00) put on and all troubles are gone! From what I was told all remanufactured alternators have voltage regulators that are not up to par as reman alternators have bad voltage regulators in them. On the Rodeo and Passport, the voltage regulators are grounded to the Engine Control Module. The Heater/AC blower is also grounded here also, so when the alternator is not charging, the blower doesn't work.

On the right side of this type of alternator, there is a plug connection. The alternator has the "male" terminals, while the "female" terminals are from the vehicles electrical system. One of the "male" terminals, known as the "C" terminal, connects the voltage regulator to the ECM (engine control module). As stated previously, in remanufactured alternators, the voltage regulators appear to be faulty, a problem that has been in exsistence since the 1980's, whereas the voltage regulators do not emit the proper voltage.

While I did get all of the remanufactured alternators from Advance Auto Parts, they obviously do not remanufacture them, so it is not really Advance Auto Parts blame, however I wonder why they continue to sell them, as a recall has been previously issued regarding this problem.

I am confident that if the alternator for these vehicles are replaced with a completely new one, not remanufactured, this problem should cease to exsist!

Also, below is a link to the electrical diagrams for Rodeo/Passport.

My 96 rodeo started to overheat after the valve cover gasket was replaced. Never had a problem with overheating before. Mechanic worked on it for 4 days trying to get the air out of the system (BY burping it). Installed new thermostat, couple of heater hoses, flushed the radiator but no change. When the engine cools, you can hear gurgling noise from the 2 main hoses around the thermostat and the one out of the thermostat feels cooler than the other one. I Would appreciate if anybody with similar problem and the right way to fix it could respond. Thank you.

HEY! I got the same situation with mine Rodeo 95! Where did you find a brand new alternator? did you buy it online? How do you know it's new and ain't reman.? I'm in Fl. Thanks.Pablo.

Hey folks! My back up lights in my Rodeo 95 stop "working" and I don't have any idea where to locate the fuse or relay to exchange it! If someone knows where to look for I'll appreciate that help! Thanks, Pablo.
  • brown703brown703 Member Posts: 8
Hello Pablo! I had the work done at an auto electric shop here in Columbus, Ohio. The mechanic ordered the new alternator for me and put it on! He stated that this has been an ongoing problem with these cars since the 1980's. Use the following link to contact the mechanic and reference Doug Brown (me) and Im sure he will talk to you. He was a really nice guy and knew what he was talking about!

From the noise you describe, it sounds as though your alternator belt is gone. Your alternator has a pulley, as so does your air compressor, water pump and Power steering unit. My alternator went out and prior to it doing so, it squeeled badly and then the belt broke.

If you don't know how to "move stuff around in there" to replace the belts, have a mechanic do it because it can be overwhelming to the unfamiliar. In the event that you find out you have a bad alternator, replace it with an original...not a remanufactured one. See my previous posts on this forum regarding the alternator issue!
