Forgot to ask - does anyone know if there is any kind of factory 'loyalty bonus' for trading in an existing BMW to get an i3?

You're right. I'm in CA, and the local tax is 7.5%. So the $3200 appears to be for the full price of the car. What do you feel is not as good as others (not second guessing you, I'm sure you're right)? Final sale price? Cap reductions? Money factor? All of the above? I've only gone to one dealer, so I'll have to ask around at others.

Read back through the last couple of pages of this discussion to see what others have been able to negotiate.

Confirming the MF on a 30month i3 base or extended range in California is .00131 and 59% residual. My understanding is $7500 incentive + $1000 build out cash in November, so at the very least the dealer has $8500 to reduce the MSRP before I try to negotiate down further? And if its kept 30+ months, there's $2500 rebate from State of California?

.00131 and 59% for 30 months, 7500 miles per year. I only see the $7500 lease cash.

    Looks good to me,any opinions?

What were the MSRP and selling price before $7,500 EV credit and $1,000 build-out credit?
49.5K forgot to mention that I also have an UDE credit

First, they are quoting taxes that you won't pay. You'll have upfront tax on the rebates and any downpayment you make, but after that, it's the payment that is taxed. So, it's hard to know where they are padding (or not padding), as they aren't giving you the actual numbers that are relevant to your lease quote.

Ask for the net (or adjusted) cap cost on the deal they are presenting you, and ask them what money factor they are using.

.00131 MF and 59% residual is correct for 30mo, 10K/yr. Incentives are correct, as well. Yes, a deal at $8500 off MSRP is essentially MSRP, so you want a big discount on top of that.

That's what we hear about the California rebate, but we don't have the information, ourselves.

Hi. New member here. I'm looking at the residuals on the i3 and notice something strange. For the higher MSRP models, the extra depreciation cost of buying 15k/yr miles vs. 12k/yr is actually higher than if you buy miles later. I heard that one can purchase extra miles @ $0.16/mi prior to the lease end. And if you do so, you actually may come out ahead. So for example:

    MSRP:$54045 (well-equipped REX)
    residual for 30m lease @ 12k/yr miles = 58% or $31,346
    residual for 30m lease @ 15k/yr miles = 55% or $29,724

Difference between the two: $1,622. That buys 10,133 miles at $0.16 per mile. If you pay that extra depreciation upfront then you only get 7,500 miles. Put another way, if you go for the 12k/yr lease and buy the extra 7,500 miles later you only pay $1200. Am I computing this correctly?

The 12K residual for 30 month is 57%, not 58%. Therefore, the delta between the two is $1082.

Which makes getting the 15K mileage limit more feasible.

Negotiating for an i3 in NorCal and getting offers from 10% off MSRP to 14% of MSRP including the $1K option credit. Any suggestions on CA's willing to match the 14% off MSRP before $1K option credit?

Yeah... the residual difference is the same, whether it's 24, 30 or 36 months... So, shorter leases show less advantage over taking the 15K/yr allowance. But, once you get up to 36 months, the advantage tilts more towards 15K/yr

Went to the dealership to sign papers. The numbers looked as agreed upon until extra $850 showed up.I was told that I have to pay tax on the $7500 rebate and a $1000 UDE credit.Does it sound right? It's just that it has never been mentioned before during the negotiation via email. The dealedship is really busy today,so we agreed to come back tomorrow to finish the paperwork.Wondering if I caught a lucky break?
    Thanks!

Yes... the rebates and credits are calculated as CAP cost reductions, and are taxable. Those are minor quibbles, until the rebates get really big, like this.

The tax is on the rebate of $7500. The doc fee of $599 is adding $25/mo to the payment.

Let us know if you have specific questions ... we don't track selling prices, which was why I suggested you read back to see what others were able to negotiate. Helps to compare their deals to yours and spot the differences.

One thing that has helped folks recently is the use of MSD to buy down the MF and lower the lease payment.

During one of the NFL games yesterday I saw a TV spot for the November i3 lease deal (BMW's advertised $269/m). Since the car buying process from initial interest through to actually buying is longer than one day for most people, I take this as a hint that the offers will continue the same into December. Can anyone confirm yet or do we just need to wait another day?

Lurking for a few days. Looking to find a great deal on an i3. This site has already been a tremendous help.

Anybody have any ideas how this dealer is advertising these deals?

I don't have any 24 month lease numbers for the i3 in December ... yet. But, the Happy Holiday Adder contributes another $2000 to the deal, on top of the $7500 lease cash. And, I suspect there are some major discounts from sticker also included to get to those insanely low lease prices.

For the Las Vegas, Nevada metro area, I wanted to get an update on the MF and residual for both the non-REX and REX i3 with 10,000 miles per year for 24 months. I also want to confirm the current lease cash amounts available on top of the dealership discounts. In a post above, it mentions the $7,500 lease cash plus another $2,000 in lease cash. Does the $2,000 in extra lease cash replace the $1,000 build-out cash in the western US, or is that in addition to the $1,000 build-out cash?

I don't yet have 24 month residuals. MF stays the same at .00131 and the $2000 in Happier Holiday Adder cash replaces the build out cash.

I appreciate the response. I will check back regarding the residuals. With regard to the $2,000 Happier Holiday Adder cash, is that considered a taxable cap cost reduction item like the $7,500 lease cash?

They have removed some incentives for 24 month leases by dropping the residual to 59% for 24/10.

    30/10 residual is also 59%.

Hmm that's interesting! BMW must know these aren't going to sell anywhere close to the 2 year residual rate. Mine is only 6 months old and is already worth less on the open market than the buy out which is another 18 months away.

Any specials offered for remaining 2014s on the lots that have never been registered to anyone (i.e., still eligible for the $7,500 Fed Tax incentive for the Lessor [BMWFS])? I am sure there will be significant discount on price (I've seen suggestions as low as $29k for a 2014), but if they are not offering the full $7,500 or the HHA Cash of $2k, those deep sticker discounts are illusory.

Stinks that they dropped the residuals this month (e.g., 63% to 59% on a 24/10). Odd that the 30 stayed at 59% and would auger toward taking that deal with 6 more months to spread the same depreciation (unless you are trying to "time" the Tesla 3, redesigned 2017 Leaf of something else and don't want to be obligated for an extra 6 mos.). Suspect the dealers will argue, "Yeah, we dropped the residual, but we're giving you $2k HHA Cash, wouldn't you rather have that?" Answer "I want both. Drop the price to cover the 4% extra I'm paying." Remember, they are not your friend. They see you as a mark and will milk anything they can out of you. You need to view them as the enemy and use this site to arm yourself with information to play on an even battlefield!

    30/10 residual is also 59%.

    $2000 Holiday adder + $7500 lease cash.
I appreciate the information. I also would like to know the residual for a lease with 10,000 miles per year for 36 months to compare. Thanks!
    53% for 36/10.

Hi - thanks for all of the great info provided so far. Based on the info above, and what I've been provided by a couple of dealers, it sounds like a few of the residuals have changed for December. Do you mind posting a summary of the current numbers for 10/12/15K miles and 24/30/36 months?

I'm trying to figure out where the sweet spot is for a lease this month.

    15K residuals:

    56% / 54% / 50%

    Add 2% for 12K and 3% for 10K

30 months seems to be the sweet spot in December.

Thanks Michaell and apologize if I'm mistaken but 30/10k residual did drop for Dec? It was 59% in Nov but I see it's 57%? (54%+3%) or am I not reading this right?

I was poking around Southern California dealers and one dealer said 30/10k residual is 56% and another dealer in Irvine saying 59%..I guess, I'll go with 59%~ =)
I know they can mark up the MF but not the residual right?
