@murphydog - The prices you see online are legitimate and the dealer will not haggle much more than that is advertised, just so you know. I just dealt with them to help my SIL pick-up a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit that was $10k off MSRP. Now, mind you, a lot of that discount was $6000 in dealer "trunk money" and $2000 of incentive. Just make sure you go through an internet rep and don't walk onto the lot...

I like those trucks a lot, but man do they get pricey. I see $10k off these things fairly regularly, but I don't often see $15k. It seems the method they are following here is offering 500 over invoice less whatever incentives are available from the front-end and back-end of the deal. If you can calculate invoice, you should be able to get a rough idea of how much incentive money is available.

Purchase or finance. The RAMs do lease well through the third party banks, from what I hear (I think these loaded up boats can go as low as the high 300s on a lease with no cap cost reduction), but not THAT well. Jeeps on the other hand are very very expensive to lease.

Nice looking car, but, since you asked, and since it is good fun tearing these cars up, here goes. The seller says;

Everything works on the car does not leak anything. Calling about the car is best.Has sport seats.
His grammar is off a bit. Shouldn't he say has sport seats after does not leak anything, then say calling about the car is best. Very "disjointed" individual, not clear thinking........probably doesn't do regular maintenance

List of larger maintenance items addressed:
-spark plugs and brakes recently done
-new clutch
-valley pan gasket
-valve cover gaskets, upper timing cover gaskets, oil pan gasket

If all these gaskets were done and the car doesn't leak, then the gaskets were all done because the car probably was leaking in all these places. Now it is fixed and so isn't leaking, for the time being until the next one goes. 128k miles and 20 years old, everything will be have leaked or hasn't quite started to leak yet.
Fairly expensive considering the possible repairs that the car may need soon.

I'd call it a $6500 gamble....and the cards are stacked against you.

Just reading that Ford's profits are down and one big reason is they didn't go big on the larger SUVs like GM did, with Yukons, Suburbans, and Escalades. Ford kind of wimped out with the Explorers and Lincoln SUVs, didn't really update them. GM makes about $20k on larger SUVs.....Ford has lost that market to GM.

I agree with @roadburner that finding a 530i would be a safer bet, if you like that generation of vehicle. Still need to find a well kept and maintained example, but its more of a known entity and engine. I seem to recall the V8 in the 540 being a bit finicky...

Craig....hmmmm....I like it, actually. But yeah....it's gonna cost more than just the purchase price. Is it worth $2K more? $3K? $5K? Depends on your tolerance level and how long you want to hold onto it.

OldFarmer....the kludgy odo wouldn't scare me at that price. If it runs, and all the "stuff" on it works, I don't see why someone wouldn't pony up a grand and a half for it. Offer the buyer an extra extended warranty (with disclaimers) for another $4K, if the odo bothers them.

I still see lots of those early 2000's 530's on the road. I remember driving those and found them to be basic great handling cars with very limited technology. Big steering wheel was large - but you would feel in complete control of the vehicle. Not the same on today's models. Less feel of the road - but the BMW surpasses the Mercedes' in terms of a better "feel of the road" handling and function.

But I do like the longer wheel bases on the more current 5 series vehicles when compared to the earlier versions.

Just got a call from my gastroenterologist's office. The blood tests I took last Monday show no detectable Hepatitis C in my blood. That is good news - however I had the same results when I took Harvoni 2 years ago. The real proof is when the virus remains undetectable 4, 8, 16 and finally 24 weeks after I finish the regimen. But at least I heard some promising news today.

I see the doctor next Thursday. I have to take blood tests every 4 weeks for the next 8 months. I have 7-1/2 more weeks of taking the pills.

Correct - both Ally and US Bank offer some pretty hefty rebates, though the MF is hiked up to compensate.

Well, tomorrow I go in for my colonoscopy and the prep is awful. I had one more than ten years ago and everything was normal I am praying for an equally satisfactory result this time around. Bottoms up!

I think I remember reading that the 5 series of that era was one of the most reliable ever built. I like that style too. As milage phobic as I am I'd consider it.

That TMU is a hurdle to overcome. Since it wasn't that long ago that it stopped working, if you do the suspension work and have some sort of receipts that show the mileage while the odometer was still working, it might help your cause.

I posted that BMW ad just for entertainment value and for the expected comments I received and I thank all of you for that. I think at this point four BMW's will be enough. They are magnificent cars that love to punish their owners and as the miles get up there the floggings only continue.

There are car lots like that all up and down 66th st. from Tampa all the way down to St. Petersburg. You must have a lot of them on your side of the bay too. Who would certify a 21 yo car anyway? At that price you pay your money and take your chances.

I have no illusions of the quality of 90s era Chryslers. My fantasies are modest. Would like a cheap little toy to take out on the nice weather days of summer. It wouldn't have to handle like a sports car or have world class build quality. Just go where I point it.

If I did buy a Florida vert this would be the time of year to go down there.

I'd rather buy a Yugo and chop the roof off.

Oldfarmer, your Lincoln reminds me of a guy I was talking to last week. He has a 2003 Cadillac which he loves....95000 miles on it. He had a lot of work done on it to make it all as perfect as can be....spent $4000, brakes, exhaust, engine all checked. All was good for 2 weeks and then it leaked oil. Diagnosis, a gasket needs to be replaced and in order to do that they have to take the engine out to get at it. Not sure how much that costs.
That is the nice looking used car dilemma. When do you repair and when do you dump it?

What would you do?

So he's recently in $4K and he's going to be in another $2.5K probably....does he plan to keep it for 250K? If not, or if it's an extra car, then definitely not. If it's sole transport and he's married to it---well, you can't buy much for $5K-$6K that won't also need some work, so....

The only caveat is that this doesn't turn into "while we're in there". You know the drill---oh, let's do belts and hoses and seal up the rest of the engine and of course since we already have the radiator out...and look how easy it would be to replace the water pump and control arm bushings, and.......

Oh, you asked "what would YOU do"?

Man, if I just spent $4K, I'd hate to kiss that off AND junk the car.....

Good luck! I unfortunately have had one every 18 months since I was 18 years old. Which prep did they give you?

Mike - good news chap. Keep taking your medicine, I think it's working!

After 5 weeks of searching for a job I may have a fit and a keeper. It's in a tiny (under 1,000 people) town in Western Kansas on I-70. I had a phone interview with the RT Boss and the HR Director today. Even tasks I felt might be uncomfortable for me as a RT, they said the Boss would re-up my skills until they could sign me off to do that skill on my own. It's what I trained in college to do - Respiratory Therapy. It's small - the hospital is 22 beds with a 37-bed LT Care Center.

So tomorrow morning I call and try to arrange a meeting there at the site this week. That's Mrs. iluv's idea and it's brilliant. I could see if I would work well with the Boss Man. If it looks good at end of meeting say yes to stay in the running for it. The HR Assistant then arranges a shot card look, pee test, Hep B flyer, you guys know the drill.

This job was not advertised - I don't know - perhaps The Man upstairs is assisting with this. Since it's not a Sleep Lab job the Mrs. initially said say no to it, but, she's starting ta see it like I am...a potential gold nugget in the vast Western plains of Kansas!

Things don't always come easy for me, but, as I always remind Mrs. iluvmysephia1..."Hey, when did you last miss a meal...can you recall?"

Hee-hee...I haven't missed a one! I'll keep you guys abreast of the latest. I truly was touched by the support in here when discussing my situation earlier...and I sincerely appreciate it. I'm just trying to reach a point I can retire...well, that may or may not happen this side of Armageddon...but a guy can dream, can't he?

I am so very happy for you. I know what it's like to be without a job - it happens to most of us. But the Lord watches over all of us and when in need, there is always a bright light and an answer to our prayers.

I've had 11 full-time jobs in my lifetime and four part time jobs. It always seemed like the end of the world was just around the corner and then, low and behold, a better position is offered. You deserve this because you are patient - an asset in one's personality that is essential.

Keep us updated on the new position.

My brother in law chose to buy a new '17 Mazda 3 Sedan Automatic transmission Grand Touring.

It was at a Mazda/VW dual-dealership.

It seems the salesman used a couple sales "tricks" on him. He test drove the snail hatchback with the 2.0 Mazda motor, and then a 2.5 Mazda 3 sedan, so he liked that the sedan had some guts, and thought the hatchback lacked them (but it is available with the better 2.5 engine too).

I noticed another trick used on my wife at a different dual dealership (VW/Subaru in that case) was used on him. These dual dealerships use a tactic to badmouth one of their brands models when your comparing 2 vehicles where they carry and sell both. Most likely they'll praise the car paying the higher commissions with heaps of lauding, while being negative to the cross-shopped brand that they also sell. I think the idea is it builds credibility if their willing to be negative about something they sell (but it is a shallow thing).

On my wife they bad-mouthed the Alltrack while heaping praise on the Outback.

On him they bad-mouthed the GTI as overpriced and not worth the $30K sticker for the sport model. I told him if I was there I'd have retorted "that's why your selling it to me for $25K today" They also mentioned bad resale value (again, same line). However, I'd have been dealing with an Internet/Fleet manager if I'd have gone with him so we would have never heard a line involving "sticker" in the first place.

Amateur car buyers get taken advantage of!

He was 82 and it sounded like he wanted to keep his 2003 Caddie until the end. When I plow more money into something that had to be fixed I never win. My experience is to get it fixed, and then unload it, and I can honestly say it is working fine....as far as I know. It is time to move on.

I didn't know what it would cost to pull the engine, and I don't know what the Caddie is worth, but, when the cost to repair comes to 50% or more of the value of the vehicle.....IMO, for sure is time to let it go!

iluvmysephia1, no one has been canned from jobs more than I have. In the last 4 years of my working career I was canned 3 times.
At least I got new jobs each time I got canned. They weren't the greatest jobs but the things I learned were more valuable than the jobs.

You are spot on, driver100. Hey, driver100, since you live in Ontario, say a prayer and well-wishes to Gordon Downie of The Tragically Hip. He has an inoperable brain tumor. The doctors have it circled on an x-ray but can't operate on it for fear of what would happen. One of those. I am heartbroken and have been since TTH announced this in May of 2016. The Hip is my third favorite band of all time....their music is a constant in my rotation. I believe they're from Kingston, Ontario.

driver100 - yep, I thought working for Boeing was volatile. The Medical field is very...umm...ever changing. A Knight in Shining Armor will ride in and totally revamp everything, including your department. Or, a RN will have a thrombo over something they perceive that you did or didn't do and go tattling. I enjoy helping people, so I tolerate the work. Ahh...to retire.

iluv, Gordon Downie is an incredible human being.....still doing concerts even though he only has a short time to live.

Workplace is challenging these days, very little security, lots of changes. Hang in there iluv, I still think good, hard working people are hard to find. Keep going, do lots of networking, meet people to get ideas and to learn about possibilities. Nothing comes easy.

He is a refined gentleman who was a lawyer (guess that might be an oxymoron) who just wants to keep his car for sentimental reasons I am sure. I don't think he is a drip pan kind of guy

If he has money to burn, go for it. Heck, he could blow that money on a week long cruise around Europe, and no one would bat an eye.
