Well, let's see here. Engine, $20K rebuild, rust and body repair $15K, paint $20K, interior $12K, trim replating & glass $6K, transaxle rebuild $8K, misc. $30K ----hmm...this had better be some rare 911.

Nope not exactly a rare 911, a 1973 911T, as plain jane as 911s get.
A "T"? Well that settles that. If we consider an absolute Home Run Price on a '73 T of $80,000 or so, then you cannot get THERE from HERE. Shifty Sez: Never ever buy a Porsche "rat" unless it is a rare specimen.

Well It shows you know your car maker logos. The Trident has been on practically every Maserati ever made.

Lots of people think the pictured car is the most beautiful Maser (personally I'm not so sure) . Maybe a different angle will help>

Sorry I missed it but you're on the nose it's a 1972 Maserati Ghibl
styled by Georgette Gigiuaro then at Ghia. It's the first of three Masers to use the name including a current 4 door sedan.

The Ghibli is a hot wind northerly from North Africa that comes across the Mediterranean into Italy. It's pronounced w a hard "g".

    MKII
    year? i have no clue.

Sure looks like a Jag MK.II but it's a 1968 Jaguar 340, essentially a de-contented Mk. II with vinyl upholstery, no front fogs (they were optional). They wire wheels on this car were not original and the car had to be converted to wear them (new splines).
Another version had the smaller 2.4 motor (Jaguar 240--not to be confused with the later Jaguar 420-a version of the S-Type, another car which looked much like the MkII.)

Yes the 240 and 340 were an austerity measure by Jaguar during hard times. They didn't make very many of these.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,805
So there is no way to tell this apart from an MKII by this pic?

No there isn't. If you ordered a 340 with optional front fogs and wire wheels it would look like a MKII. Cars without those options looked like a low end MK.II from earlier years.>

The diagonal headlight placement on each side is reminiscent of the Chrysler 300. But it actually looks good on this car.

It should be reminiscent of the Chrysler 300 since it's a 1961 300G (last year for big fins). As it whether the canted lights look good, I'll demur.

LOL! So how do you know that the first pic really is a 340 instead of a MK II?

Those Chryslers are beautiful. Even the 4-door post sedans were stately. The styling is clean. I had a Revel plastic model of one I glued together as a kid who loved cars. My parakeet spent hours riding on that thing as I pulled it with a string.

Actually Andy, there *might* be a way to tell--I am not entirely sure but I believe the front bumpers were thinner on the 340 than on a Mk II

OK, now that you have your homework assignment.... :p

Yes the 240 /340 had those single bumpers whereas the old MkII had something more like motorway crash barriers...

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,758
Cool stuff, where is this? I see a few Dutch plates, but also some small plates that aren't familiar to me, kind of Italian but not really, and the lack of Fiats shows it is definitely not Italy.

4 fintails and a Ponton, nice MB content there. The fintail facing away at far left is a W111, the rest are W110.

I see the corner of a 60 Ford at the lower left corner. I'll leave the rest for others - for now :)

What is the car behind the '63 Ford convertible.? Rambler?

And the car two behind the Biekins truck? And what's that behind the Biekins truck.
Maybe the foreign car experts can list them off in order in each row?

The picture is in Belgium but I don't now where. You can see the typical red on white Belgian plates on some of the cars- in the magnified picture above the Peugeot blocking the Galaxie shows this clearly.

The car behind the Galaxie is a British Ford Consul Classic. And the one two cars back from the Biekens truck is an Opel Kapitan P 2.6...

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,758
    Ah that explains the plates.

There are also two Volvo 122/Amazon in the pic, a coupe and a sedan. To the right of the Amazon sedan in the lower middle of the pic is a Skoda 1000, and there appears to be another Skoda, this one an Octavia, behind the Amazon sedan. That's enough for me tonight :)

There are a couple of VW Beetle 1200s in the pic that are definitely 1960s models, they have the taller front glass. The one next to the Land Rover S2 in the foreground has the steel sunroof and just behind the behind the big Ford is another w/o s/r. In front of the Pug 403 next to the Galaxie is a light colored Vee Dub a a roof rack. The smaller windshield and the lack of signals on the fender topsdates it back to pre- '59 IIRC. It's next to a Karmann-Ghia of indeterminate age.

Is that a Triumph Herald or Vitesse on the far side of the Ponton next to the car we knew in the US as the VW Squareback?

I don't know anything about this photograph as I lifted it off a website a while ago thinking I would use it for us but then forgot for a bit...

I would say this is about 1962 as I can't see anything later - the Ford Taunus 1200 P4 was introduced in 62 as was the original Ford Consul Cortina - there are two of those as well...

You've got a 1960 US Ford in the bottom left corner too (next to the Taunus P4). I suppose with the Galaxie being a 63 model and the Cortinas being late 1962 it could be into 1963 but probably no later..

Quite a few cars here have Dutch plates but Belgium and Holland even then were relatively borderless...

There's a Borgward Hansa or Isabella next to the Fintail in the lower left of the picture. Lots of cool stuff in this photo!

Another easy one to pick off, Anglia 105E between the W111 fintail and Amazon coupe.

A couple more - Volvo 544 at far right beside the Ghia, Fiat 600 to the right of the W111 fintail at top left, and for another "new" car, could what looks like a Vauxhall FB Victor beside a Beetle, behind an Opel Rekord?

  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 54,053
there is also an older Volvo on the far right middle. A PV. 544 maybe?
