I want a 2018 V6 SEL Premium with 4MOTION AWD. I'd like to do 3 years at 12,000 miles and I have no idea how much I should put down, though I will put down up to $5,000? I live in Southern California.

Out of curiosity, where do you get these numbers from for the lease residual value and the money factor? I didn't see them on the VW site.

I recommend first payment and DMV fees upfront. Roll all other costs into the lease.

The lease parameters are confidential dealer/bank information. You won't find it on the website. (which is why we have 200 discussions devoted to the numbers).

1.are the numbers you provided considered good, average, bad? Is it a good idea to lease vs. buy this car?
2. What are the generic lease offers featured on the VW site? Are they the same offers based on the numbers you provided or are they different offers completely?
3. Do I do anything with the lease cash amount you provided?
4. Is the residual amount based just on the cost of the car without including and other fees?

1. The Atlas lease program improved in January, so I'd say it's about average when compared to other cars like it
2. The generic lease offers on the VW website usually assume some amount of down payment, which we recommend against. Negotiate your best price, and ensure they use the base MF
3. The lease cash is a factory to dealer incentive - use the knowledge to make your best offer
4. Residual is calculated against the bottom line number of the factory window sticker (base MSRP + packages and options + destination charge)

1. Where does the MF amount come from? Who decides on it? What is it based on.
2. Is it likely they will try to use a different MF value when I try to negotiate?
3. Is it likely they will try to use a different residual value when I try to negotiate?

1. VW Credit sets the base MF and residual values; the numbers are set to achieve a certain payment to help sell cars
2. Dealer is allowed to mark up the MF for extra profit as much as .00125
3. Dealer cannot alter the residual set by VW Credit

Hello, I almost got into a deal in NYC for 2018 V6 SEL Premium with 4MOTION AWD 10k 48
months with only first month up front for $ 600 a month. I did not get the detail ( MF, Cap cost, final price etc...
do you think this is a good deal? thanks for you help on this forum.

I would say no, but we would need the missing information to know for sure.

The Atlas lease deal got better in January, so the payments should be better than last month.

I have a friend in CA who was offered $429/mo before tax on an SE with Tech (FWD) on a sign and drive deal - $0 out of pocket at signing.

Wanted to share results of lease that I just signed in MN last weekend. I found most dealers were unwilling to discount much and were marking up MF, but found one that did me right on my trade and was fair to work with on the lease details. This isn't the best vehicle to lease, but it was the perfect size for us and the one my wife wanted.

Selling Price: 43,435
Rebate: 800

Residual: 25,681.60 (56%)

Atlas 3.6L V6 w/technology (A8) Front wheel.

For 48/12k please.

We told dealership it was a lease from the beginning and got preliminary 36/12 48/12 numbers. The 48/12 was much better and we usually keep a car 48 months anyway, so we negotiated a selling price.

We agreed to $35,405.00 plus 425 doc fee and the $10 MS title fee. We said OK, but then after we drove back over and started signing paperwork and disclosures, we reviewed the actual lease contract before signing to find that they added a $675 lease acquisition fee to the capitalized cost. They had disclosed everything else, including the "doc fee", but added the 675 at closing and said they were already back of invoice by 1800 dollars and couldn't eat it. The F&I guy said, "they always disclose that prior to coming in here." We showed him the written quote without it so he called in the sales manager who was nice but said, "I've never disclosed that prior to closing in 15 years." We shook hands, smiled and said thanks, but walked with that one signature left.

They were nice, and we liked them, but they should have disclosed the acquisition fee if it was to increase the capitalized cost, in our opinion. We negotiated the capitalized cost and knew it included the title fee, doc fees, and sales price before we drove to the dealership to close. These things piss me off. If VW requires it, then the dealership knew it before they agreed to our price.

They quoted me a 48% residual and a 00063 MF.

So I'd like to make sure those are good numbers before I go to another VW dealership.

99% of leases have an acquisition fee. VW Credit's fee is $675.
The sales manager screwed up by not disclosing the fee. And, most likely lied about never doing that, as it's an unavoidable part of every lease.

This model:
.00051 MF and 48% residual
$700 lease cash

Seems weird they would quote .00063 for a money factor, as that's not enough markup to even worry about, but there you go.
