I didn't say that Mr houdini, what I said was the US gets more from NAFTA than it gives, where Canada is concerned. It doesn't matter though, it keeps business going and people employed...those people pay taxes etc., NAFTA has been a good thing for both Canada and the US, only when someone wants to be a bully and change it to take advantage of a friend and ally does it become a bad deal. How would you like to be a strawberry grower in Florida, who exports strawberries to Canada....then have a trade war so steelworkers will have more jobs?

Canada is exempted from the tariffs just announced. As far as I know, nothing has affected either Canada's or U.S. strawberry crops. You said Canada got the short end of the stick (paraphrasing again) vs U.S. but you are condemning U.S. for trying to make NAFTA more fair, even for Canada.

I am in Florida now and the fruit and vegetable growers depend on sending their produce to Canada. If the US imposes extra tariffs on Canadian steel.....and NAFTA is being renegotiated as I write this - then I would expect their will be tariffs applied to produce produced in the US. I am not condemning the US or anyone.....I am pointing out that it isn't as easy as it sounds....sure you can put tariffs on incoming goods, do you expect there won't be retaliatory tariffs applied? There will be, and then it will escalate, and both countries will lose financially and the trust and bond will be broken. Europe will apply tariffs to some American goods as well. There will be some winners, but way more losers....AND, they have never worked in the past, in fact, global trade has been growing and it has worked very well.

I didn't rat them out. Besides, my neighbor's very large dog Cheyenne (as in VERY large) can easily jump our mutual fence to greet visitors in the dark of night.

when we finally move, and build or redo our next house, I am going to splurge on a whole house integrated unit. I never want to care again if the power goes out.

that, ,and I don't want another basement to worry about flooding.

Told the wife today that it might be liberating to get into transition housing. My plan is to sell this house, move into a rental, and get the next house all set (build or major remodel) before moving into it. But while renting, no spending weekends working on fixing things that break, or searching for repair people to come out and take my money to fix stuff. I am really over that.

Unless the weatherman is Nostradamus, it's pretty darn hard to predict even 24 hours in advance. The technology is so much better today that the accuracy is great compared to when I was a kid. I think they do a good job, even if they are forced by station management to bring emotions and borderline hysterics into it for ratings sake.

The technology and models they have are extremely accurate if they had the correct data to enter into it. The problem is that there are so many dynamics it what influences weather that it is impossible to know everything that effects the weather and its variables. Small errors in initial data create significant differences later on. Basically the snow storm you got caught in last week might have been caused by someone in China slamming a door 6 months ago.

One of my internet forum pet peeves is the guy who pops into a discussion of a certain car and without being asked proclaims that you should buy an ABC instead of an XYZ because the ABC is faster/cheaper/more economical/more comfortable, etc.
So... the exact thing just happened on another forum; a guy found a used RS5 and was inquiring about any possible issues or red flags. In pops an "expert" who informs everyone that, "You can get a brand new Camaro SS for that price, which is better in almost every way except it doesn't have AWD."
Well, maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but the OP wasn't asking about other cars he was considering, he was only asking about the RS5.

My wife hates that I watch this show and even more that I can tell her what will happen. Says it takes away what little fun there is watching.

Obviously I don’t have anywhere near the experience you do, but one summer working in the DAs office during undergrad was enlightening.

Swapped the GLA250 for a RAV4 and much happier. A frugal little CUV and super easy to drive. No XM radio but using my old cd's so all is good. Even has a sunroof since we're having cool evenings down here. So all is good and I'll keep this till the end. The other insurance company is going to go look at the damage also so will be interesting to see where we do end up. Either fix it to the way it was or total the damn thing so I can move on,
The wife knows me too well when she said if they fix it, you're just going to trade it as soon as it comes home. Depending on how it drives and if they compensate me for the damaging Carfax, she's maybe 75% right here. I'll always be looking and thinking once I drive it again so for my piece of mind, might just get something new. But nothing is written in stone hear and must wait till the fat lady sings. In the meantime, do plan to test drive a new Ford Ecosport as I like the size and the looks. The "SE" version hits the sweet spot for me but anything I would get will need the safety stuff on it. Only negative is it's a Ford!

About the handicapped placards, I have one, have had one since my on the job accident back in 2005. I use it and don't feel ashamed in the least to be honest. I walk with a cane 100% of the time and walking any distance can be very painful for me. My pain doctor is a nice guy but a no nonsense guy also, he knows [non-permissible content removed] when he sees it. He suggested that I get the placard after my accident because he could see how painful and difficult walking was for me.
No one has ever said a word to me when they see me exit my vehicle and walk with my cane but one lady in the supermarket actually told me I didn't need a cane and to believe in G-d and he would make sure I didn't use it anymore. Not sure if she was kidding or what!
I understand some folks do abuse the use of their placard but some ailments aren't seen from the get go, so don't throw out the baby with the bath water here as some things aren't what they seem sometimes!!
And about Carfaxes, my Golf will have one if they indeed fix it from last weeks accident. And I am very unhappy that this really could happen! I did nothing wrong and as a result of someone else's stupidity, I could get a vehicle back that's no longer in excellent shape and will bring less when I go to trade it because of this. Why should I lose money on it's value? It just really isn't fair and I should be compensated somehow for it's diminished value!!
Getting off my soap box now and using my cane to do so!

Sorry the first part of the message above form screwed off work in a law firm they specialize in foreclosure bankruptcy things like that location matters no personal injury things only type of law like that I’ve been at this job for over seven years now dream of mine to go into the automotive field I’m sure you’ll know I’ve posted in the past not giving up on that still working and it don’t like being told no that makes me fight even harder not word in my account brewery

Love that show live PD I’ve seen a few times think I like it a little better then comps which all me big fan of since I was a little kid also used to watch Ansell mysteries with that show too long with the home improvement shows and now recent past 15 years or more of show on velocity or Spike TV

Marco, sounds like a very interesting career. I have had a very checkered past...teacher, managed 3 different retail chain stores, worked for major book publisher 16 years, and when no one would hire me started my own book distribution business....which we did for about 20 years. You never know where life will take you.

A friend went on a sailing race to Cuba....brought back pictures of some great cars. Most of these big heavy 50s American cars have boat engines or Corolla 4 cyl engines in them. Those guys must be great mechanics!

I agree. Trying being a GM owner. It's hard to get used to people stereotyping all vehicles within a brand when they've never even driven a normal model of one and often have never sat in one. Part of what goes on is the scapegoating syndrome. It's fun to criticize the other team. Not to get off onto sports... that's even more boring than [nonpermissable content banned to Mars].

Actually, I think this happens a lot because of family history. Some families would always buy GM or Ford, and it became a habit. I was always told Chryslers were poor quality....and for many years they were, so I stayed away from Chryslers. When i got my first JEEP in 95 the first thing my father said was hope it doesn't leak...water gets into those. When i got my BMW X3 in 2004 he saidBMW....didn't they make those 3 cylinder cars?

Not sure why she is so anti-Ford. But she is. She also won't consider a Chevy, and that is what her father drove back in the day (and some other GMs, I know he bought a Caddy after we were married).

Her first car though she bought on her own (didn't ask me first!) was a Plymouth. So go figure.

Unless I am forgetting something, since I got out of HS, the only domestic I have not owned was a GM product. I had a Chrysler (Voyager minivan) and a couple of Fords (Mystique and Contour, though got that for my kid).

Wife is away this weekend, so I've got a couple projects I'm working on in the master bath.
Patching the ceiling and installing a light over the mirror(that one is a pretty big task).
This means I'm using the main bath instead.
I really miss the walk in shower in the master bath. The main bath has one of those 1 piece tub/shower setups.
Feel like I'm in a cheap hotel.

Way back in the day, families leaned toward one brand of car over another - Ford Families, GM Families, etc. My Dad’s first car was a used Studebakker in 1945 when he returned from the war. His father (my grandfather) bought a new 1947 Dodge Sedan with “Fluid Drive”. Fluid Drive was a precursor to Automatic Transmissions. After depressing the clutch to shift into first gear, the car would automatically shift into second and third gears, IIRC.

My Dad’s first new car was a 1951 Chevrolet DeLuxe Sedan. After that purchase, he only bought GM cars (Buick, Pontiac, Oldsmobile and Cadillac) until 1992. I inherited his preference for GM cars for quite a few years. My children could care less what they drove.

Those days are over - today people buy cars for many reasons - but fewer buy cars out of brand loyalty.

I think the pendulum has swung in many different ways since the days of...”I am loyal to Ford, or GM, or Chrysler”. I believe the precipitous fall in quality and innovation of ‘80s U.S. Brands still have not recovered. Does that mean Ford, GM or Chrysler still don’t make innovative, well built cars? For the most part they do make good cars. Those foibles in the ‘80s are hard to shake. And, remembering our parents or grandparents experience of the 80s, those memories still influence some of our buying habits.

In these forums loyalty runs in a different direction. Some here love BMWs, some Benzs, some Honda/Acura, some Toyota, some Volvo, some VW, etc. Some of us stick our feet back in that water to see if things are better with U.S. brands than what we remember. Sometimes they are, sometimes they aren’t.

I don’t believe any of us purposely denigrate another’s choice of brand or model of car....at least none that I’ve noticed.

It takes about three times the time to recover reputation over time you lost it. Detroit was on total self-destruction path from mid 70s till around early 90s, then it was putting half-a@#’d improvement efforts until bankruptcies of ‘09, perhaps a bit before (but it was too late by then, as they were locked into bad contracts and financials). So giving them about 10 year credit, it will take them another 40 years to regain same glory and esteem they held in late 60s and that assumes the competition will just stand still. However, they don’t need to be “the greatest”, they just need to be legitimate contender in minds of all import owners. They are winning them over, but I think the complete recovery may take another 10-20 years of constant efforts and no complaining about “currency manipulation” and “press conspiracy”, which would only set them back. Credit is built by behavior over time, not declarations. One bill paid on time does not make up for history of fifty account past due.

BTW, I unfortunately see only GM and Ford improving. Chrysler seems to be going back to its bad old habits, in terms of both product quality and customer service.

See I’m never that we with by a certain brand I love Ford’s probably the most but open to trying other mix and out as a Tatian every brand has the potential to have some problems with his models the mother the brand either you get a good one we could get a bed unit you never know life‘s too short what’s the time you probably spend more time worrying been anything ha ha just my opinion speaking looking forward to the New York auto show in about three weeks
