I think the Clarity only has lease programs in ZEV states (of which Indiana is not one)

Just to clarify for anyone else browsing around: Honda does offer the Clarity as a lease across the US, naturally, but the incentives in form of the tax rebate Honda would get for "selling" the car is the piece that is limited to the ZEV states.

edit: sorry, and I've heard that the lower MF is limited to ZEV states as well, elsewhere is being reported around .002. Not sure of any dealer markup there.

Possibly interested in the Clarity, in part because of the $7500 federal tax credit. Can people who lease this car still get this credit? Or is it only for purchases? Living in KY, I assume there's no lease incentive here. And I also assume you can't buy in a state with lease incentives and then register in another state?

Lessees don't get the tax credit. The lease incentive is in lieu of the tax credit.

So, if you aren't in a ZEV state, you are out of luck on a lease.

Just a follow up, and I know it's a pricing question but this is my first attempt at a lease. Assuming a 37,490 MSRP, when I calc lease I should expect a max cap cost of 30,290.

Right now I have an offer for 349 per month +tax with a $3,000 drive off. I like the payment (which ends up being $370 after taxes) but I don't like putting anything down.

@carobserver5 Let me know what kinda deal you are getting, since we are close.

You can structure your lease deal any way you'd like.

$0 down would push the payment to about $435/mo before tax

But, you should be able to negotiate a price lower than MSRP. A friend of mine is looking at a Clarity and was able to get a couple thousand off MSRP without even trying that hard.

So far I have the following from my local dealer for a 12K/36 Month lease:
MSRP: $37,495
Sale Price: $27,995
MF: .00071,
Residual: $16,495
Down: $915 (includes 1st payment, docs & lic)
Base Monthly: $368
Monthly with Taxes: $396.49 (7.75%)

When I work out the numbers the residual seems kind of low at 40%? Also since I'm guessing the lease incentive is $7K that the dealer is giving me $2500 off but have been seeing ads and email quotes with $3700-$4000+ discount off MSRP? Not sure what more I should ask for? Thanks in advance!

If I add the $595 acquisition fee to the sale price, I'm within a couple of dollars of that payment.

I don't track pricing, but that's where you want to look, to get a lower payment.

The tax credit goes to the leasing bank. Honda is giving the $7000 rebate, as a way of passing that along (more or less).

I don't know the actual tax credit on this vehicle, but for vehicles sold for lease, it's less than the $7500 for purchase.
