    An SoA Cannonball Run...
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I'd still be leaving the wife alone for at least 2 nights, though.

I'll have to wait and see. I would love to make it, I'm sure any manufacturing plant would be interesting, particularly one with H6s!

There could be a gimmick rally with check points along the way... ;)

Although it would be more like a 1/4 of a cannoball, kinda like a 1/2 marathon! haaaaa

I'd get the "most gas stops" award I'm sure!

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I don't know about that. A 22.5 gallon tank is pretty big! I'm sure you can break 400 miles in a tank, right?

I think the Forester could use a bigger tank. I have yet to break 400, even though I did reach 395 and could have made it.

I'm a wimp with the baby inside.

Haaaaa I'd spew large chuncks and kiss the gas attendent if I got that. At most and this is rolling into the gas station on fumes, I'll go like 345ish. Don't forget, I only get 14-16mpg!

I need like a 45gal tank on here!

Perhaps that has a little to do with your 100+ cruising speeds? ;)

got to get the tix first toget in :D

    Patti-
how do we get the tix from you?

    -Dave
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Yep, going 80mph (which is roughly where I set the cruise control) and the aerodynamics of a brick wall, will cause you to get poor fuel economy. Although on my trip back from upstate yesterday I got 18mpg after increasing the tires to 40psi.

    Garry,

I would like to join you in April for the get together. Question though, since this would be the first time I have ever gone to anything like this: What goes on? It sounds like it is the one day. Is it just drivivng around in the area, or what? Thanks in advance.

You may want to check out his site:

    http://www.subaruclub.com/

Garry's hops in only on occasion.

If you become a member (the fee is small, something like $20 per year), you'll get a card good for 10% off parts and service at a whole slew of Subaru dealers. Plus a newsletter, and all the events and such.

Had to give him a plug. He's cool.

Heh, surely it's no surprise to find juice's picture on the front page of the Subie Club website :-)

juice, are you still planning on installing a rear deflector? I've noticed that quite a few Outbacks and Foresters here have the rear deflector or the spoiler (more so for the OB's).

    It's still under consideration.

For the sanity of my wife, I've agreed to take a break for winter, and hybernate, if you will, from any more customization.

    -juice
  • alingaling Member Posts: 598
Hehe, I can understand. You've gone through far more significant customisations than I have!

Actually, with all of the wet and mucky weather, the deflector would come in very useful in the winter. I have noticed that my ML's tailgate and rear window is significantly cleaner than before.

BTW, you didn't mention this, but does your Miata have ABS?

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
No ABS, not even with my C Package (A and B packages had less equipment). So leather, CD, alloys, RLSD, but no ABS.

Apparently, back then it was very rare, so only special orders had them.

Still, it has 4 wheel discs and they're very easy to modulate.

I won't be driving it in the rain or snow, obviously.

Thanks to you and all the other members at the variuos Subaru sites here at Edmunds, I found out about the SCOA just after I got my OB, and joined right away. I think it is pretty cool that there is a club dedicated to Subaru's, and after owning one for 3 months am proud to say I am a Subaru owner, and member of SCOA. When I checked the SCOA site, all it said was the meet is set for the last Sunday in April. I am trying to find out what goes on at these get togethers to sell the wife on going with me( I'm planning on going WOWO her).

Garry is a class act. He goes through a lot of trouble to secure sponsors, sign dealers up for giving member discounts, and organizing events.

The fee is well worth the benefits.

That is SO kickass. I saw that in the paper this morning. I used to love the auto show when I was a kid, down at the convention center. The timonium show absolutely stinks. I almost didn't go, but....hmmmm....S2000, MR2, ok!

NEway, who's in fr a group trip?? DUH! Hutchmeister, Mike, Juicy Juice?
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
"It's only 900 miles there and 900 miles back."
"That ain't never been done in 28 hrs, not in no rig!"
"That's because you and I haven't tried it yet."

In all seriousness, my buddy lives in Columbia, so I'd probably be up for it!

Sounds primo, especially since juice will be out of town for the DC show in December. A weekend is better for me; I'll be busy with work around that time. How does everyone feel about Sat. 20 Jan or Sun. 21 Jan? 21st is last day of the show; don't know if that's a bad or good thing.

    ..Mike

PS - Craig (c_hunter), how 'bout it? Other Baltimore/DC lurkers?

    Loosh ... I'm there!

And, after the show maybe we can all take turns driving the A.J. Miata ??? Sorry Juice .. just couldn't resist.

I've been reading about the US WRX. I have one thing to say ... 99' Forester S for sale! Screw practicality ... I want one .. and heck I'll even let Juice drive it ! maybe ..

Yeah, I might be able to make it up to Baltimore for a Sat or Sun hookup. I haven't been to a car show for a few years, though the last one was the LA show, which rocked (kind of crowded though).

Mike S- Let me know if you ever decide to sign up for one of the advanced handling courses offered by Panoz at Road Atlanta. I've been thinking about asking the other half to let me take the 2-day course as a Christmas present. FYI: My humble abode is approx 35 min from Road Atlanta if you need a place to stay. Also, the cheapest air fare from DC to Atlanta is usually in the $120-150 range. Of course there's always the "road trip" option for you DC area Soob fans. 660 miles = 10 hour drive (or 7 hours for Paisan) :-)

A very kind offer, Frank. Thank you. I think about this school all too often. No plans yet. It'd sure be fun to take a class with a fellow enthusiast.

Frank, how many Subie enthusiasts does your home hold? Mike, how does a road trip grab you?

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
How much $ does it cost? That is my key to it.

I'd be willing to take my Trooper :) we can fit 4-5 quite comfy in it :)

    Hi everyone,
My next vehicle will be a Subaru, how do I get a Subaru credit card so I can start saving toward my new subaru. Any help is appreciated.
  • subaru_teamsubaru_team Member Posts: 1,676
Call us at 1-800-Subaru3 and we can get an application to you!
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
I might be able to swing the 1 day, the 2 day is outta my price range... I'd still be up for the road trip though!

1/20 sounds like a plan. Loosh - you sure you can get that Saturday off?

I'll work on scoring some free passes. I have a few buddies in the car biz, though they're in DC so it's a long shot.

Let's meet up somewhere and either carpool or caravan. We could even try to arrange for some freebies. :)

Hutch - (thankfully) the Miata will be winterized and stored by then. Plus - no roll bar and we may need it! :-O

  • thecatthecat Member Posts: 535
Patti - Do you know if the WRX will be at the Balto auto show on Jan. 20 ? Or, maybe you can't talk about that.

Juice - If I can drift a Durango .. I think your Miata would be safe :) Besides, I offered to let you drive my WRX .. (nevermind the fact that I don't have one yet .. it was a generous offer)

I'll let the "Organizers" take care of the logistics on the 20th. Just let me know where to be and when. I'm coming from the north so it may not be practical to hook up with the DC crowd. If anyone is heading down 95 let me know and we can meet at one of the park & rides.

The 20th works for me. I'm west of Phila far enough that I-83 makes more sense for me, but I'd be willing to try to meet somewhere and carpool.

    Cheers,

  • thecatthecat Member Posts: 535
wdb - Actually, I'm about in the middle of 95 and 83 so either works for me. Let's see who else is interested and we'll work something out.

I felt kind of silly tossing the Durango around at Edmunds Live. It was begging for mercy. Too big, too heavy, did I mention is was big?

    -juice
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
    Durango is small potatoes... :)

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Small?

It certainly feels big, which is to say unhappy whenever you try to change directions. Too much inertia and primitive underpinnings.

    -juice
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
The Durango is actually shorter than my Trooper by a few inches, yet has less interior volume. (those curves and big hood add size but not volume) and the rear drums, optional ABS, and rear leaf springs kill it for me. Also 2nd row seating suffers due to the 3rd row of seats pushing the 2nd row foward.

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Also, if you sit in the 3rd row you are basically eating your knees. The cushion is way, way too close to the ground.

  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
You bet I got that Saturday off! I got all my Saturdays off after January 1. But no WRX. There is a connection.
  • francophilefrancophile Member Posts: 667
Teeny little ones! I don't know how they can sell that much truck with that little brake area and sleep well at night. And ABS doesn't mean squat if you don't have the braking swept area.
