Over 40 cars, including a bunch of Saabs, it was a terrific day! Great weather. Great roads. Great company. Great time.
Garry thanks!

Note for future reference: If Marco Polo had employed the services of Paisan & Juice for navigation .. he'd still be lost! No China, no spaghetti, silk .. just lost! Dead & Lost.

Our Tour was fun. Hutch - you try navigating at Mach 3 with a FRS in one hand and a map in the other, all while holding on to the "OH SH&%" bar the whole time. All this on never seen before roads with no signs!
Garry said he had 12 RSVPs and 50 cars showed up (28 Soobs, 14 Saabs, a SHO-engined wagon and a Prelude). Hmm, who did not RSVP? *cough* Hutch *cough* ;-)
It's amazing that we only missed two turns the whole time, and one was because of a mistake in the directions (it turns out Rt 272 was the 2nd stop sign, not the first). Heck, even the other was a hidden driveway that none of us could find!
I did get to know the feeling of co-piloting in a rally, however. Is Richard Burns hiring? ;-)
The bridges were OK, but like Hutch said, a bit of deja vu after a while. I liked seeing the culture contrast (with all the Amish), the vistas, the tulips, the Clydesdale horses and the farms - very nice. Later on we saw the Harley Davidson factory, too.
I got to take a spin in paisan's XT6, and what stood out in my mind the most was how well the powertrain was working after over a decade of use (and abuse) and 150k miles. Shifts were smooth, torque was good and immediate, only the muffler was shot.
The interior also impressed me, with gauges galore except no passenger fear-level meter, unfortunately :oO. Nice carpeting, head liner, and sun visors far nicer than those in my Forester.
It even managed a little off-road foray.
The "FREE CAR" Tempo was hilarious. On the side of the road, up for grabs. People kept driving by. Hysterical. And earlier we saw an Escort being towed away by a pickup with only a chain. Fuel for paisan/Kate's anti-Ford sentiment.
I'll get some photos up soon.

I will leave the link in the Resource box for a bit longer...just in case anyone is curious as to what they missed.
Please let me know of any other future events planned. If there is an informational link, I'll be more than happy to put it in the Resource box.
Thanks!

It's funny to hear folks talk about, "Hey, doesn't that bridge look just like the last one?" because I get the same feeling when I go through there. We used to do a LOT of bicycling on those roads, and after a while, well, a cow is a cow and a horse is a horse and buggy is just another buggy (although I did see a pretty cool pickup-truck-style one this morning). On bikes though the bridges always hold a giant question mark; which way do the floorboards run? If they're laid across the direction of travel, no big deal. However if they run in the same direction, you really have to watch that you don't get a tire caught in one of the joints. I had a friend do that once, causing him to lose his balance and bash into the side of the bridge with his leg, arm and shoulder. He didn't fall, he just kind of leaned into the bridge wall; I was riding very near to him and could hear going, "ooh! ooh! ow! ouch!" as he continued to graze the wall. He bounced along like that until he exited the bridge, whereupon he stopped and we pulled splinters and cleaned and patched him sufficiently to get him back to his car. No permanent damage except to his ego. I still laugh when I think about it because it was the only incident I have ever seen where a cyclist crashed without falling down!
Sorry I missed you all. You had a gorgeous day. For consolation I got to drive a VW Rabbit convertible, which was no thrill whatsoever.
Cheers,
-wdb

Where: UWharrie, NC
What: Off-roading and Camping Trip.
I checked with the Isuzu guys and they said that the Subies shouldn't have any problems since Uwharrie is relatively tame, unless you choose to go for the hard stuff. It should be a fun weekend, Kids and pets are welcome and encouraged. More details can be found at: http://www.outdoorwire.com/ubb/Forum68/HTML/004378.html

Speaking of Subaru marketing, I think Subaru has probably more TV advertising than any other vehicle sold in the USA. Their commercials are everywhere.

As I drove into the supermarket parking lot I noticed a Forester getting gas at the pumps. Another Forester was driving out of the lot. A Legacy wagon followed me (Legacy sedan) into the lot. I parked my car in the first convenient space, next to another Legacy sedan. I looked over and noticed that the Legacy wagon which followed me into the lot was parking next to another Legacy wagon.
Whoa.
Cheers,
-wdb
too bad you didn't see a Impreza - that would have completed the model lineup!
-Brian
The only SUV I looked at when I started shopping for the Forester was the Nissan Xterra, and I quickly wrote that off once I sat in it. much less drove it. I chose the Forester over the Legacy GT and (Legacy) Outback wagons because of its better power to weight ratio (this was pre H6 and pre WRX, mind you) and better handling on varied terrain cf. the Legacy GT. Audi and Volvo were right out.
Dennis: a high school classmate had one of the first BRATs. It hadn't rusted away before I went off to college.
