Easy for us to forget that the remains of the British auto industry was still punching out original style Minis and A-series engines into the '90s.

I've averaged 27-29 MPG, depending on terrain and speed, and that's with 4 people and luggage. I think mid 30's is attainable.

Have done several road trips in my TLX. I get around 33-34 MPG, depending on terrain....usually with the cruise set somewhere between 70-75 MPH.

    Around town, I get about 22 MPG.....mixed I’m getting 23-24 MPG.

I’ve used nothing but Costco PUG in it, too.

I’ll get a better handle after this weekend, but so far, that’s about what I’m seeing. Without the V6 or AWD. maybe mixed is a little higher because my local, is really short hop.

Elantra had me spoiled. Closer to 30/38 on that, and a few highway runs over 40.

I can't wait for my first road trip in the new car in a few weeks. The Bluetec could pull 42-45 on the route, I suspect the wagon will be in the upper 20s, maybe 30 if lucky - which I suppose isn't bad for a 362hp V6 with AWD and something like 4300 lbs. Lately, my driving is all commuting grind and suburban arterials, where anything over 20 is good.

GROAN......Calif. gas prices are spiking due to "refinery disruptions"---just in time for summer travel! They are punching through $4/gallon right now and might spike at around $4.15, say the petrol experts. CA requires a different blend of gasoline than most of you lucky ones are burning out there in the heartland.

kW hour price is going up, too. It's still cheaper to run an EV in California than a 30 mpg car, or any pure ICE car, but if you match an EV with a hybrid Honda Insight, it's pretty much a draw. In fact, using the formula of 34 kW hours to go 100 miles in a Nissan Leaf, then the Honda Insight might even be a bit cheaper to run.

    Huh.

Friend of mine is on vacation in Newport Beach. He sent me a pic of the sign in front of the gas station:

    $4.49 (87)
    $4.59 (89)
    $4.69 (91)

Someone just changed from diesel to PUG, did anyone think prices wouldn't go up? I am waiting for that time when the cash discount at my local Chevron is finally exceeded by the 4% credit card reward.

Unless you generate your own electricity, I don't think EV buyers are going to outsmart energy companies. You're playing poker with a monopoly.

I could go 100 miles on 24 kWh with my old Leaf, so I'd say that number is pretty pessimistic.

Glad it runs on regular as prices are creeping upward here in Atlanta too.

I was just going by what an EV website posted. Maybe they were using hwy driving? But if it were 24 kW hours, then the Leaf would cost about $1,80 less per 100 miles to drive. So $180 bucks a year savings.

$2,999 due at signing here. And, in Texas, 6.25% on the entire purchase price ($30k ? ) so another $1,875. So you're now looking at around $465 for a sign-and-drive. Not tempting.

I’ve noticed a few more Rangers on the road lately so I perused a local dealers site.

    XLT 4WD Ranger ~40k
XLT 4WD F-150 ~37k after discounts and rebates. Of course you could do a bit better on the Ranger if you sat down at the table. I ran into the same thing years ago when I got a Ram. With incentives it turned out to be cheaper than the Dakota 4 door I originally was interested in.

You really have to have a strong preference for the smaller size in order for the premium for a midsize to be worth it. Generally, the full size is going to be the flagship model and should offer better features (e.g., GM couldn't figure out how to do keyless ignition on the latest Colorado/Canyon, but it's been available on the full size models for a while).

Saw one of the same vintage yesterday. It was a 500 noted by both badging and vanity plate.  It was also a color I’ve never seen before on that era of car.   A very bronze-ish/medium brown over tan. It was showroom new.
