We had to replace the batteries in both MINI fobs after about 4 years, and this was after we swapped them out every other year.

I would not mind those voting for it, paying the taxes for what I consume or get taxes credits. I’m sure you got the 59% fiqure some where. As for the posts being fake news, the calling of them fake news IS the fake news. So the call of fake news will be taken as fake news until links are posted.

Having @ one time helping to secure $1.75 B for the (Santa Clara County, CA) areas’ transportation needs, I can tell you 59% is way high to a bold faced lie. While the $1.75 B had stiff legal penalties fo “mis” appropriations, it was really no guarantee that 100% of monies were used for its intended purposes. I was NOT part of the this particular transportation money’s auditing team.

Perhaps that was for the better, I would’ve probably ended up in some ditch somewhere, 14 shots to the back of the head, ruled a,...suicide.

If they are like my X1 and Clubman, 4-6 years. They both take the same CR2032 button cell battery which is available most anywhere. Amazon sells a pack of 12 for $6.99. It only take a minute or two to change them.

I've bought several packs of Amazon batteries including the CR2032. They are great. My wife used a lot of them in the decorations for the rehearsal dinner for our son's wedding. The things labeled Amazon Basics have always served well, even my paper shredder.

Yea, verily.

I think it's similar in CA but, as always, data talks -- please bring it. There is a large contingent that thinks travel by automobile is evil in general, but particularly in cities. So, you end up with "road diets" that take four-lane thoroughfares and turns them in two lanes with either a bike lane or parking, making an already overloaded situation much worse. And, of course, the whole lot is paid for from gas taxes paid by the people whose roads aren't being maintained or improved. California's attempt at high-speed rail is an especially good example of public funds being used foolishly.

Ridership on mass transit in SOCAL has dropped significantly over the past 20 years, in spite of many additional miles, at astronomical cost, particularly for the subway portions.

When people can, they get a car and drive it. Making driving licenses easier to get is a factor -- see, I've left out the political part.

If I'm wrong, bring me data.

Some of the Ohio state fuel taxes went to beautification projects along roads, turning railroad track paths into walking, biking, etc., and pushing rail for short commutes. That doesn't work in most Ohio cities because the rails have to go in all directions from a hub and many people would ride one of 12 different spikes into center and back out because they work in the next suburban end of a nearby spike.

IIRC even Cincinnati's Trolley Folly with a short loop downtown and to the ballpark area was supported partly with Ohio road funds among other sources and likely Federal road monies as well.

Let's use fuel taxes for roads on road repairs, maintenance, and improvements.

In terms of road repairs, & unconstitutional non 2/3 rds majority gas/diesel taxations, the 59% HIDES more than it reveals! Break out the overwhelming emphasis on so called “public transportation” & one might even be approaching the truth. If they can waste $3 B on the public transportation to NOWHERE... Remember, or some might not know, Governor Brown promised the taxation forward monies to fix roads, not 41% plus+ for other stuff! To me it’s another 3 cups & guess where the pea is. It is despicable & immoral.

You have a point if you live near an urban area but it seems rather unfair that folks outside the city get no service from the public transit systems for their contributions.

I would be grateful if my state returned 59% of the money taken for road repairs.

Down the road, fuel tax revenues will likely decline due to improving vehicle efficiency, while road repairs and maintenance will continue to rise due to inflation. So I don't think relying solely on fuel tax will work long term. The real question seems to me to be what are the alternative(s) to support the upcoming shortfalls?

My local MB dealer will change out keyfob batteries for free, at least they always have for me, but I also got my cars there. A nice little perk either way.

Broward County (where I live) just approved a 1 cent increase in the sales tax to be used for public transportation improvements and expansion. My lease payment on the car went up $6.00 a month - all people who lease cars felt similar increases, not to mention all non-food purchase costs went up as well. The coffers of county and local governments are expected to expand by hundreds of millions of dollars over the next 10 years. But the catch here is that all the county is going to do is replace buses and buy more buses. Here in Broward, that is the only public transportation we have with no plans to add alternatives such as trains.

I sure would love to live long enough to witness the audit results as to how Broward and local governments spent those hundreds of millions of dollars. Salary raises for county employees would be my guess as to how a majority of the money is going to be spent. There are just so many buses you can put on Broward County roads.

Thanks, all. I’ve had everything from a Golden Retriever to a Miniature Pinscher. This guy is my first mixed breed. And, he’s probably the sweetest of them all.

Poor guy was abandoned in the woods. Who would just dump a dog in the woods? He was emaciated when the SPCA got him. It took them a few weeks but they got him to good health. My neighbor volunteers there and told he about him (his name is Bisket). I hadn’t had a dog in about 5 years. So, after she sent me pictures, I had to check him out. He came home with me and hasn’t been too far away from my side since I got him.

And, you guys are correct. They do find you, more than you find them.

Not yappy like some small dogs and he doesn’t bark at every little sound.

Just a good, loving dog. It’s been awhile. I forgot how much joy and love dogs bring to a home.

And yes, he gets the front seat treatment.

Just wait until the cute pup gets used to you and his environment - chihuahua’s bark at the drop of a hat which is why they make great watch dogs. This breed is where the term “his bark is worse than his bite” came from.

They are very protective of their “space” and their owners. Enjoy your lives together, GG.

@graphicguy -- I seem to recall that you travel a lot on business, and basically live alone these days. I no longer travel for business, but I do an occasional weekend away. With my 2 dogs, the boarding fees were a bit silly, so these days I have someone who does house/dog sitting. A retired woman, that I used to work with.

@henryn ....I do travel a lot. These days it’s mostly day trips, although when I have to go to HQ (CA) it’s usually for a few days. My son lives close, and will take care of the new pup when I have to be gone overnight.

@abacomike .....Had this pup since Saturday, and the only time he made a peep was when he saw a bunny during one of our walks. So far, nothing but silence when the UPS, FedEx, my son, even me when I open the door from being gone. He is there to give me a greeting when I get home, though.

He sleeps throughout the night in his bed (which is next to my bed). He hasn’t had an accident (yet), but I take him out 3-4 times/day. Once as soon as I get up, couple times during the day, and once before we go to bed. Seems to be working.

I think I’m lucky with this guy! He’s lived in a house before. As, he’s been easy to train, so far. Just someone didn’t want him anymore and took him to the woods. Inexplicable, as he’s as sweet as the day is long.

According to Bloomberg, it will cost America about a trillion dollars a year to become carbon neutral. Sounds alarmist, but last night I did my part for the Green Iniative by using a paper straw for the first time. The straw was very sturdy and it did not desolve in my mixed coctail. Hope it is not one the items targeted for the China tariffs.

Yes! All we need is another $1 trillion deficit per year, adding to the already $23 trillion deficit.

I say bring on the China tariffs! The American economic miracles needs to be spread around the world & NOT concentrated in the hands of CHINA, a now sworn enemy.

This is not to give domestic terrorists ideas, but yesterday we had an electrical outage due to BALLOONS (helium?) allegedly getting tangled up in electrical wires. (on telephone poles? )

Again. purely a guess but I’m sure the balloons were meant for some deserving mother on mother’s day.

Our current dog (alas, now 3k miles away from me) was a rescue mix from the streets of Arkansas. For the first three days he owned us, he made not a sound. But, as he grew comfortable, the barking began. In a good way.

Remember, despicable, evil, heart breaking acts are the exception. Else they wouldn't be news. For every story of human evil, there are exponentially more acts of kindness, selflessness and civility, such as adopting an abandoned pet or helping a fellow human being. Not newsworthy, but it's what the majority does. "Give 'em dirty laundry..."

Just a theory, of course.

A neighbor took in some rescues. I'm not sure how, but she had some connection with our county animal shelter. They were related to pit bulls type dogs. The male had been abused by a man. He hated men. When she walked the two dogs, they practically pulled her along.

When it was time to put the male down after the female had already died, she had a vet or tech come to her house because she couldn't handle the male with his aggressiveness. IIRC, the male tech couldn't even get to him with the needle without a couple of others holding down the dog.

Some of the rescues have had terrible lives. It is, indeed, sad. So glad to see folks take the dogs that might be put to sleep after a period of time being held in the shelters.

There is some truth in that actually. The battery in the 2014 C250 goes pretty frequently, I usually need a new one every 5 months. I think it is because it was one of the early keyless keys so it drains more power than later models. The technician guy at the MB dealer said to use Panasonic batteries...for some unknown reason they work best with an MB.
But yeh, it bothers me when the warning comes on that the battery is low....I have a backup supply of batteries, a few in the fridge and a few in the glove box.

I'm back....great time in Madrid, 6 full days of tennis....Madrid Open is played in The Magic Box. 3 stadiums have closing roofs.

I have been scanning posts all week, couldn't post from my tablet.
Mikes parking story was one of the saddest of the week...how many units in that complex and someone has to park in his space!

We had to go to the games for 6 days. Bus would take an hour to get there and cost 12 Euros for 2 a day. (I think a Euro is worth about $1.12 US
Metro would cost 6 Euros a day, but a long walk, about 45 minutes.
Taxi would cost 40 Euros a day, 15 minutes, door to door.
We thought we would try UBER......24 Euros a day! About 55% of the price of a taxi.

Impressive if you never used it. You call them, tell them where you are going. They give you a price, if you accept they show how many cars are in the area. You choose to accept. they give you a license number and brand of car, drivers rating, and his name. UBER tells you how far away the car is in minutes, usually less than 3. Car pulls up, you ask who he is, if the name matches you go.

We took two taxis and about 14 UBERS, the UBER cars were much cleaner, drivers were better, and the system is smooth...brings science to a really old fashioned system. When you leave the car, they email you the cost - goes on your credit card, and you rate the driver. There is some accountability, which taxi drivers don't have.

I couldn't resist. I've done the same with some things. I even carry two sets of keys in my pocket. Only one flip key fob for the Malibu, but two keys for Cobalt, etc..

One thing I like about it here is that besides being lovers of cars, a whole lot of us love dogs (pets) too.
