nice colors. seems pretty well equipped. Low miles, and correct number of pedals. I would not kick it out of the garage for eating crackers in there. Just way, way out of my price range!

Hmmm - Coincidentally, I came across this listing yesterday that piqued my interest, at least a little bit.

    https://www.landroverdenver.com/used/BMW/2011-BMW-Z4-965c9afa0a0d0cc74fa150fa4f8cbbcf.htm

At the end of the day, I don't think I'd trade the practical nature of my Miata for an 8 year old BMW with the turbo I-6. But on the other hand, it is the turbo I-6. :)

And, as @stickguy would say, it has the right number of pedals.

So how optimistic is this Land Rover dealer on their pricing of the Z4? (and I hate this Land Rover dealer by the way).

My friend offered $31k and the sales guy gave him the “rare manual” BS as a reason for the higher price.
And you know it was lowballed as a trade because “manuals are hard to sell.”

That’s what the big dealership cartel here in Louisville charges, and one of the reasons I didn’t buy from them.

Figure out how much you want to pay for the car. In the case of that Cadillac XTS, say that number is $32,000. Add in the sales tax (here in Texas, 6.25%, or $2,000). Most dealers are going to run between $250 to $350 for the title transfer, license plates, etc, so I just round that off to $300.

    $32,000
    $2,000
    $300
That comes out to $34,300 OTD (out the door). I make that offer, and make sure they know it is my one and only offer, and is all inclusive. They take it or they don’t take it. “Handling fees” have no part in my equations. They can manipulate the numbers anyway they want, sell me the car for $500 and charge me a $33,900 handling fee, I don’t care. I only care about what I have to write on the check (or finance).

I hope that it's not off topic:
I'm looking at leasing a new car and a dealer offered to take my current lease off me (currently leasing a 2017 Volt until end of august). Does anyone has knowledge of the pitfalls of transferring a lease a few months early in order to buy/lease a new vehicle?
    Thank you.

Are you buying another Chevrolet or GM vehicle? BMW Financial will sometimes offer a pull-ahead to get the customer into a new car several months before the lease termination date- maybe GM has something similar.

I have a 2017 Audi A7. I did a 3 year lease / 30k miles total but only have 15,000 miles on it currently. My lease is up in 6 months and current payment is about $1000 per month. Residual is $43,000. Audi offered me $49,000 for the car, which equates to about the same as my residual plus 6 months of payments at $1k/mth. Am i missing anything here or is this a decent deal? Bluebook value for a private sale with same mileage is $49k as well.

Also, is there negotiating room there or is that a take it or leave it, have never returned a lease before.

    Thanks in advance.

You really aren't returning the car, you are trading it in, right?

Wouldn't the current payoff be equal to the residual plus the remaining payments? Which he did state in his message, $43,000 plus ( 6 * $1,000).

No.. usually, it's less, as there are "unearned" finance charge portions of the lease.

I'm just returning it and am going to start a new lease with an A6. So i believe the payoff is what you mention the $43k plus remaining payments? They basically offered me the same.

Unless Audi has a specified "pull-ahead" program (and, I don't think they do), then the only way to get out early, is for the dealer to take your car in trade, and payoff the lease. That is not the same as turning it back in to the bank. It's important to remember that the dealer and AFS are not the same entity.

You very well could have some equity in the vehicle, with the low mileage, but to have any chance of realizing anything from it, you have to gird yourself with the proper information. Don't assume your payoff amount. Call AFS and ask them for it. Then, you'll know if you are being treated fairly by your dealer.

    Here's a caution for everyone.

Friend of a friend bought a 2009 Honda Pilot with only 35,000 miles on it, and paid a premium price. Well they asked me for advice as the CARFAX that they purchased AFTER buying the car showed a mileage discrepancy.

Sure enough a scan tool verified 137,000 miles on it.

They paid cash, seller has disappeared from the face of the earth.

    Nasty business.

Apparently they just want to sell it and concentrate on other problems (health issues). I'm not going to interfere or do an "I told you so", although it's tempting. Nice people, too.

There's a place on the title where you check that the odometer is incorrect--then I guess you write out a Bill of Sale that declares the true mileage and everybody signs it, including a witness. As for what the new people do with it--who knows? The CARFAX would bust them, providing somebody checked it.

Too bad. It's a nice clean truck just loaded with every conceivable option--top of the line. These folks are going to take a hit on it, no question.

well, if the condition is good (it must be pretty clean if is passed for a 37K unit) why not just keep it and get use out of it? The money is already sunk.

Keeping the Pilot and reporting it to the appropriate authorities to attempt to get some type of relief would be a feasible option, I'd think. My Tahoe has almost 130k, but would pass for something with probably half the mileage, but I'm proud that it's kept on ticking for 10 years and that many miles.

sounds like they are out of luck though. If the scammers are gone, no one to go after. And the police are unlikely to put any effort into this. So, they have a car, and a life lesson, water under the bridge. Just need to make the best of it going forward.

And yet one more reason to just pony up for a new car!

So what’s next? You take a used car you are looking at to the service bay, so they can plug in and read the true mileage?

That would be a bitter experience finding out the mileage was tremendously higher than represented. It sounds like the Pilot was well kept and assuming it was, it should have many more miles left in it. Our 2010 has 135k and looks and drives nicely. Probably a good idea to have the timing belt and associated service done to prevent a greater problem.

When we traded in our 2011 Pilot, it had 102,000 miles on it. Like yours @sda, it looked like it had maybe 35 - 40K miles.

I’m surprised that you can change the ODO display without changing what’s stored in the CPU. But definitely a good idea to do a code dump in a PPI.

Interested  in a vehicle. It's a 2017 Benz in Omaha Nebraska. My Zip is 68147. Credit score between 720-50. MSRP $37988. Selling at $36973. Comes with 18k miles. The on-site payment calculator is figured with my down payment of 6% ($2200 down) over 72 months, with $556/month before additional taxes. Vin #WDC0G4KB2HF191909

I didn't see the point in dropping a large sum for a down payment. No trade-in. But what sort of wiggle room could I negotiate here?
