To this day, I have a VHS of “LeMAns” and keep my old VHS player around to play those few (and hard to find) movies.

I’ll say my FAVORITE driving scenes in a movie were not from BULITT (although that one was good), but from RONIN.

John Frankenheimer was a masterful director, refusing to overcrank cameras to give the illusion of speed. The driving sequences in Grand Prix and Ronin are gritty and realistic as a result.

It does look good, but I wonder how accurate it's going to be. Hollywood has a habit of doing a lot of embellishing and creating conflict where no existed and turning ordinary people into villains.

Speaking of racing and movies, what was the sports car that was used in Basic Instinct 2? The opening sequence of that movie is thrilling to say the least. The improbable sequence has Sharon Stone driving an aggressive looking sports car through a tunnel and on the streets of London at 120 mph while being pleasured to ecstasy by her dead male passenger.

I wasn't even aware there was a Basic Instinct 2 much less Roku TV where I watched it free. Roku TV, who knew? The streaming quality is excellent and rivals that of Netflix. Don't how it works but there were a couple of commercial breaks for what I believe is free TV.

I just read Prius sales are way down, and Ford Fusion is the leader. Fusion Hybrid is so popular it costs less to lease a Hybrid than a pure gasoline version. But, Ford will cancel the Fusion soon...they will hope to carry on using Hybrid SUVs. Still, this is a small segment of the total number of new cars sold....and won't increase by much even over the next 5 years.

Recently I began thinking that maybe the ATS could use a bag hook or two in the trunk. It has a cargo net but that is good for maybe 3 grocery bags max, and stuff sometimes flies around in the trunk if I buy more than 3 or 4 bags. Apparently the go-to hook is either the genuine VWAG version or a much less expensive Chinese knockoff. I found the latter on ebay for about $5 each and some of the listings have good pics with dimensions shown. You need an 11cm space to drill holes spaced that distance apart with enough room above it to accept a fastener. They come with clips to attach to the sheetmetal and accept a machine screw, so ideally you would also have another pair of larger holes immediately adjacent if you wanted to use those, or I suppose you could just use a couple of self-tapping screws instead of the clips supplied.

I spent some time poking around in the trunk and came up empty. There are very few locations that would work, most of which are at the far aft end of the parcel shelf structure, and that is all lined so you can't really see what's there. There seem to be only 2 locations that do not have a speaker or other things above, and that doesn't include what might be hidden under the package tray. Removing the trunk lining would seem to be a challenge (more accurately, the challenge would be getting it all back together after). The prospect of drilling inadvertently into wiring or other hidden things seems very real, so I think I will abandon this project before it starts and consider another choice for cargo. Maybe even a couple of bungee cords would suffice.

Look at weathertech site. They have blocks that stick to the trunk floor that interlock making a box whatever size you need. Our VW had them. I stole them for my sonata. Worked great.

In the tlx, I just have a cardboard box that fits in the front corner alcove. Could always bungee it if needed, but I never found it necessary.

@ab348, my low tech solution to trunk storage is a couple of 6 inch high produce boxes. They keep the grocery bags secure, as well as keeping the reusable bags in one place. Maybe not elegant enough for a Caddy, but for my Accord, it works well.

On the Town & Country, if you keep the third row seats up, there is a sunken area behind that third seat that is absolutely perfect for hauling your groceries.

Best think about our odyssey. Great place for watermelons and propane tanks. Just pack a blanket around it to keep from rolling around, but couldn’t go far. Especially with just the small seat up.

I thought this was an interesting article. The premise is that very few people ever get to a state of net investment income. Meaning they get more interest and dividends (NOT market appreciation) than they pay out in interest, i.e. car loan interest, credit card interest, HELOC interest, etc. Speaks to the nature of our spend spend spend society. I’m so lucky to have a frugal wife, and we have been positive in net investment income every year since 2002. I bet we have a higher % of people on these boards with net investment income than the % in middle class society. But I’m not totally sure of that. It helps to be older and more satisfied with what you have.

Her BF is a local cop (not that town, but all these little towns work together) so they radioed ahead and every town along the way sent someone out to block the signaled intersections. made it to Camden in record time. Even the ambulance people said they had never seen anything like it. Connections are everything in life.

If the tires are still good, maybe he can take them off and keep them in the alternative.

Did you watch the same video I did? the truck clearly was braking and moving lanes. Left turns are like rear-enders, the left-turner is going to be at fault absent a mountain of evidence to the contrary.

I use a couple of orange boxes from Sam’s club. They give them away free at check out.

The only interest I pay is the 1.89% loan on the Ford. I have less than $6k left on that and then will be debt free. My lowest paying investment returns 2.6% dividends plus a chance of capital gain.

I never was comfortable paying interest.

This is most certainly true. We have no car loan and pay credit cards off every month, but still have a couple of mortgages. The principals are way less that they were -- not sure we're net positive on interest payments, but probably so, given the stock market performance over the past few years. (yeah, I know, we didn't earn it) Maybe it would make sense to pay the mortgages off, but the loans are at very low rates, and the investment returns have been higher. Oh well.

anyone have experience painting tile? My daughter and her BF (well, he is, she is helping) are buying a house that has original 1958 tile in the bathroom. In great shape. Just very blue and peach. For some reason, they are not fans. But being poor, after buying the place, not in position to just gut the room and redo it from scratch. So, looking to paint the tile white instead.

I saw it on one of the HGTV shows, and they sell the paint kit at Lowes (not cheap though). I am skeptical though as to how well it will come out. I guess you are only risking the cost of the paint and a weekend of time.

anyone know how much a bathfitter costs? I would do that instead, but I am much more interested in writing a check to save myself a lot of labor!

Bath fitter is not cheap at all. Thousands, easily. For only a little more you may as well do a full gut.

There are services that will paint the tile and it holds up well. My parents had it done years ago.

I'm always willing to borrow cheap money.
Overall, since we have a decent chunk in CD's, we earn more than we pay interest(mortgage plus car loan).
In no hurry pay off the mortgage, although it's not deductible due to our high property taxes.

yeah, I just googled and realized it is not cheap. We redid our hall bath, a total gut including a new tub, and that was probably less overall than a bath fitter. And their bathroom is pretty tiny.

That link is exactly what they want to do. Probably not going to want to pay the price, so DIY and hope for the best is likely going to be it. Worst that happens, it looks like crap, and you can deal with it then!

I had a Bathfitter setup here when I bought the place. I suspect the owners had it done to make the place more saleable, and it worked. However, one of the happier days of my life was when the contractors ripped it out 2 years ago. I hated the thing. It could not retain a seal between the tub insert and the wall, and water would get in and try to float the tub. All it is good for is covering up deficiencies.

Not sure i understand the problem. So they are saying FCA reporting sales to its dealers is the wrong way of doing it? First, I think that is how it should be done. They ARE selling to the dealers. Any other product manufacturer does it that way. When Home Depot buys a case of light bulbs, that’s a sale for GE, not when the consumer gets it off the shelf. Second, does it even matter for vehicles? They all get sold eventually, so how much does it really change things if its reported in March 2018 vs January 2019? I know that particular sale is a different year, but it all pays forward because then those actual Jan units wouldn’t get reported till later, too.

Coming back from the gym this morning, I was behind a vehicle that I thought was stopping for no apparent reason at a green traffic light. Brake lights on, slowing way down... then they made a right turn and I noticed that they did have a turn signal on, but it was pretty well camouflaged by the red lens on the turn signal portion of the tail light assembly. Honda Pilot. My brain was looking for amber.

The description sounds a bit out of kilter. It appears they are disguising the real issues. Fiat Chrysler continues to be the “weak sister” of the so called “Big Three”. I understand that the merger talks with Renault has fallen through. It would have been/still can be Renault Nissan Fiat Chrysler.

We have also been conditioned to focus on yearly new car sales. Yet, yearly used car sales are normally (more than) DOUBLE YEARLY new car sales.

I don't understand all this hoopla about holding grocery bags in place in the trunk but then I don't do a lot of the shopping either. The only time I do grocery shopping is when I lose the coin flip with Mrs. j. As long as you find all of the peaches that are rolling around back there, what's the problem?

I believe tile color is glazed, so I'm pretty sure only specific type paint will hold up, especially given the higher humidity environment. A place with a paint expert can probably help you, or perhaps a tile place.

Recently I had the same experience. An SUV was way head of me making a left hand turn and I saw no turn signal. As I got closer I did notice a turn signal, it was red, under the brake light (same color mind you) and only 1/4 the width of the brake light. The turn signal simply is overpowered by the brake light so that it disappears from view at any distance. Very poor design. But for the life of me I can't remember the make or model of the vehicle.
