Nevada's information about HOV lanes does not technically mention whether a dead body counts as a passenger. The law mentions qualifying vehicles for HOV lanes as those "transporting more than one person."

However, Police in Nevada have confirmed you do, in fact, have to be alive to be counted as a passenger in a car.

You would figure that Nevada State police would have better things to do than harass a corpse.

In my town locally the police responded to several fatal crashes over the weekend (none due to speed or booze) by ticketing everyone they could find for 5 over the limit. They even pulled over one of our drivers on the way to work. Fortunately, he is an ex police officer so a flash of his old badge got him out of it.

    Mustang musings.

Yesterday the”oil change required” icon lit up on my dash. The gauge read 4%. Odd since I changed the oil with full synthetic about a year ago. Checked the dipstick and the level is full and the oil is still golden.

In researching this I found that the Ford oil minder tells you to change oil after a year no matter what the milage. I’ve heard folks on here recommend that too but I’ve only put 1200 miles on the car in the last 12 months.

So what’s your opinions, change or not? My indie will do it for $60-70 when I have it inspected next week.

Definitely change the oil after one year...it breaks down.
It breaks my heart, we only put 5000 miles a year on the Florida C250, 7000 miles a year on the E400, and Mrs D drives about 3000 miles a year in the GLK, but, they all should get changed after one year.
The good news is, low miles, changing oil on schedule, should make them last a long time.......

That's kinda a personal question. But as best as I can calculate, rounding-off high and taking into account those laps around the dining room table, I've been happily married for 48 years. That ain't too bad outta 52. ;)

Seems like an occupational hazard with automotive forums. I belong to a Cadillac forum which just changed software over to the Xenforo platform, and just like every other site that I belong to that did that, it is currently a disaster. The old "everything is different, and nothing is better" disease. As I write this it is "down for maintenance" which cannot be a good sign 4 or 5 days in. Maybe they will go back to what they had.

It was working fine (or at least as good as it was, which wasn't very good) when I left the house this AM and when I came back home it was down. Wasn't my fault.

I'll give it this much though - at least the image posting and emoticons worked over there when the site was up, unlike certain other automotive forums with which we are both familiar. :open_mouth:

Yes, but Police don't have the power to interpret laws. That's the Court's/Judges responsibility. However, the Police do get to ENFORCE the laws as they interpret them, but it might not hold up, and no one likes having their cases thrown out or overturned, except maybe traffic court judges.

Two things, first is how is it defined in the law? If it's not defined in the law itself then the courts will use the common definition in use at the time the law was written. My Webster's dictionary defines person as a living human being.

Secondly courts have already determined that persons have to be in their own separate seat. Hence Mrs. Andres sitting on your lap or your kidnapped victim locked in your trunk wouldn't count as a second person.

Just got a call from my MB dealer. They are sorry the car wash took over 2 hours and the new girl at reception didn't know if the car is going to take longer than normal they should tell the customer. In fact, he said they would try to give an estimate no matter how long the wait would be. They offered to do a thorough extra good cleaning to make up for it. I said it was OK, I will try the regular cleaning again one day. I don't usually need an extra cleaning, but, if I do I would let him know - he wanted a heads up. They tried, he said he was glad I mentioned it so they could review their systems with the staff.

I agree. They offer the service but they still want to maximize profit. I didn't expect or want anything out of my complaint besides an apology and to hopefully make them try harder......and more than anything, not to take a customer for granted. I believe in telling them why I am not happy - they can use that information or not. But, they lost a few points on loyalty from me.

To be honest, driver, you are lucky you have such an upscale MB dealership in your area up in Toronto. There was a time when I would walk into any Mercedes Benz dealership and be treated like a king. Great amenities, complimentary refreshments and a complimentary snack bar, were the norms. Free car washes were commonplace.

Down here in the tri-county area (Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach) we have 17 Mercedes Benz dealerships within a 2 hour drive from my Condo. None of them offer complimentary donuts, bagels, etc. They offer coffee and bottled water like any other new car dealership. The service departments look and feel like any other dealership service department - often crowded and not very attractive. As for complimentary car washes, only 3 dealerships still offer them - luckily they are the ones I do business with.

Lexus dealerships (all 8 dealerships in the tri-county area) are the only ones that offer complimentary manicures, snack bars, barber and salon services, to name a few. Even BMW dealerships are sub-standard compared to Lexus and the new Genesis dealerships.

Personally, it really doesn’t matter to me - I don’t need to have my nails done or have a haircut while I wait for my service to be completed and I can’t eat bagels and cream cheese due to my diabetes, but the Lexus and new Genesis dealerships are the only ones down here that pamper their clientele.

So, driver, you are truly a pampered MB owner!

17 MB dealers within 2 hours? Good lord.

Back when Hondas were selling for over MSRP, the corporate guideline was that new dealers had to be 10 miles from another Honda dealer.

    Seems like over-saturation.

Here in metro Denver, we have 3 MB dealers, plus one in Colo Springs and a 5th in Northern Colorado.

Of course, we don't have the drug money South Florida does .... er, wait.

We have 4 in the immediate area (Bellevue, Lynnwood, Seattle, Tacoma) plus 3 more down in Portland (3+ hours away) and 1 up north near the Canadian border (Bellingham).

Enough to satisfy the MB demand with tech and foreign money, but not enough to make dealers competitive.

To me it doesn’t matter what amenities or perks a dealer offers as long as I get the deal I want. The Kia dealer did have popcorn in the showroom but I was there to get my price. If he had caviar and cucumber sandwiches I would have walked right past them on the way out the door if he didn’t meet my price.

The Ford dealer didn’t even offer popcorn but he got my loyalty when he repainted my hood out of warranty for free. That kind of service is worth a bus load of bagels.

The Chrysler dealer had popcorn, hotdogs and a big screen tv in the waiting room. Free car washes for life too but I didn’t like the attitude of the service department so never went back for anything.

My indie guy has treated me better than all of them put together....but no donuts.

For anyone interested, this show was partially filmed in my county- and features officers and staff I work with on a daily basis:
    60 Days In: Narcoland

Update: I just saw a story that idiots in W. Virginia are using wasp spray to get high when they run out of meth. What is wrong with people?
Don't knock it until you try it :D

Just got a call from my MB dealer. They are sorry the car wash took over 2 hours and the new girl at reception didn't know if the car is going to take longer than normal they should tell the customer. In fact, he said they would try to give an estimate no matter how long the wait would be. They offered to do a thorough extra good cleaning to make up for it. I said it was OK, I will try the regular cleaning again one day. I don't usually need an extra cleaning, but, if I do I would let him know - he wanted a heads up. They tried, he said he was glad I mentioned it so they could review their systems with the staff.

Just when I thought I'd give Benz a shot at selling me a car then pampering me when I took it in for service, you tell me that their dealerships are just ordinary. It looks like I chose the right car afterall. ;)

I'm guessing it's the black miniaturized wing above the Honda logo on the lip.
