Just caught up with the news. I'm really bummed to hear about the accident -- especially since it involves your new FXT.

But yes, it could have been worse. It was just the bumper and some other minor items and not a complete side impact. Glad no one was injured, too. You now also have a reason to change to rims!

When I bonked my Forester into a snow bank several years ago, the bumper clips also broke causing it to hang off like yours; foglight also intact. In my case, the wheel arch pinched and caused paint to flake off. The cost of repairing the bumper, straightening out the wheel arch and repainting along with some minor items came out to $1600.

Hey, I saw the sonogram picture too. Brings back memories. That's the important stuff to focus on. So why "urchin"?

Glad everyone is OK Lucien. So it looks like the fender got borked a little too, eh? If you're going to pay for this on your own, I would order a new fender and have it painted, clearcoated, and baked at a good body shop. Then, install it yourself (it's super easy). I can't see for sure, but the bumper cover may be salvageable if the paint damage is not too bad (ie, you may be able to do a local repair). But, you could also have a new cover painted/baked and install that yourself too.

would have to make a believer out of anyone who doubted the IIHS top rating for the Impreza line. It is amazing anyone survived that. Thank goodness for the quality and strength built into these cars.

    Loosh,

Here's another positive spin -- good thing you didn't make your mind up on the rims yet. Imagine had that been the Superlegras that got scratched!

Indecision has it's positives too. ;-)

Urchin- since we don't know the sex yet, we just refer to it as the urchin.

Fender- upon close inspection, it appears that the very corner of the fender was ever so slightly pulled by the bumper skin trauma. No paint damage, not even a hairline crack. Obviously, I am hoping that little corner (maybe .5" square) can be straightened. Inside, all the foam bits seem snug and undamaged. *shrug* I'll call the shop on Monday.

Ken- no kidding. First I gotta worry about fixing this though! Oh well. Perspective-wise I got very very easy.

Sweet Mother of God, I thought my photo was bad but after seeing Dave's it is nothing short of a miracle that he walked away from that.

So Loosh, be honest now, is that your way of getting the Symns front bumper that was featured about a month ago over in Nabisco:-)

Seriously though, glad it was only your pride that was hurt.

     Cheers Pat.

forgot about that! but no, things like that are too hard to replace.

Pride wise, it was just a freak thing. I looked before making the U, not even Kirsten saw it coming and she was on that side of the car to boot. I wonder if she had her lights on, come to think of it. I don't remember. I had the opportunity to review my approach- you see, I forgot to mention that the street has a divided median with parked cars on both sides that one must bi-sect (THAT'S a crucial part of the story...d'oh). Seeing oncoming traffic is virtually impossible as the road curves right there on top of everything else. At the end of the day I should have looked one more time, so ya pride's a little hurt. AS the say, "A meteor hitting your car is an accident. Everything else is driver error." Along with a healthy dose of contributory negligence, I feel. :-)

Was 80F today. Got in a bunch of yard work, and then had a cookout on the grill for dinner. Amazing I was skiing in the teens just 5 days ago! I was reminded of that as I was hosing all the road salt off my wagon.

if the car had just darted out of a parking spot, you would't have seen it or would they seen you. Had that happened to me once, looked and saw no cars for the stretch of block. Just as I was entering the intersection, this car darted out of a spot two parked cars back. I think if you had looked twice, that second or two delay might cause you to hit them instead.

Lots going on! Congrats on all the homes, my condolences on the accident, and I will make a trip up there to hug everybody in my 2005 Turbo Legacy GT when Juice has his SUBABEACH 2004 party. Deal?

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. A major bummer on a new car.

And those pictures of the WRX wreck - amazing that anybody could survive that!

Mid 60's here as well - began some yard cleanup. Have we seen the last of the snow???

And of course, congrats to the home buyers and sellers!

    Congrats and condolences where appropriate.

It rained yesterday and I think it is going to rain again today. My GT is in desperate need of a wash. I have been stuck working 16 hour days since Thursday doing the system upgrade from hell.

Mileage report: 99,860 as of this AM. Should be 100k by tomorrow night.

Loosh: get insurance to pay you to fix the rim, then apply the money to the new set instead. The OE rims can be your winter rims.

Jim: it's a little condo (860 sq. ft.), but I'll promise to host a cook out!

where you all escaped "intact". It stinks to have repair expense now, but - you all are okay. If you have any "parts" issues, let me know?

Juice - have I ever told you how good I am at cooking a turkey on the grill? Congrats on getting the condo. I live for my "shore" days. We open our place up next weekend and I'm so psyched! When's settlement?

First of all, Loosh, I'm glad no one got hurt. Be thankful for that, right?

Juice - Congrads on the condo offering. I just knew it would work out. We found out that the other offer on the house we bought was 5k higher than our offer, but we're assuming the offer requested buyers assist or some such. We're thinking that the letter we wrote to the homeowner might have helped. Now as to the turkey...yumm, count me in to help consume. <g>

To everyone - Thanks for much for all of the good wishes. We have a pool with a large deck in the backyard, so I actually could have the crew over. I'll supply drinks and something grillable, everyone else bring something to pass and your swimsuits. With over 2300 sq.ft. of living space, we could even put the crew up for the night. The new neighbors will think we're having a Subaru convention or something. That could be fun. Now that I'll have a place to wash and wax my OBS, I'll have no excuse for a dirty car. Time to be a full-time member of the OCD club. Thanks again, folks!

Patti: it's all your fault, LOL. You got my wife all excited about the shore, she's had beach fever ever since we saw you!

Settlement is May 27, just in time for summer. :-)

Dan: I'll bring turbot for us to grill.

PS they accepted our offer on my wife's birthday, funny eh?

Congrats on the new property purchases.

Loosh, sorry to hear about dent. Just remember, people are waaay more important than things. (I've finally learned that...wait until your kid dents your car with a bicycle.)

In the past five days, I've put over 1,200 miles on my (now) bug splattered Subie. Weather permitting, a wash next weekend.

Pollen season has already started! That's the downside to an early spring. Anyone who doesn't live in the south is blissfully ignorant of what the effects are of millions of pine trees producing copious amounts of yellow pollen. It gets so bad that we actually get drifts of the stuff! This is definitely the time of year when owners of black cars go nuts :-)

juice: Congrats on the new property!

Loosh: Bummer on the fender bender. Realize it could have been much worse and be glad. Rejoice in that ultrasound - amazing the level of detail it can generate, isn't it? I could swear I saw tooth buds in Paul's jaw, as well as the iris and pupil in his eye, when I saw the last one he had. The next one you see could very well tell you the "urchin"'s gender!

Dennis: Hope to see your tint job in the near future. At the very least, post pics!

Frank: We'll get that pollen in about 3-4 weeks. Pine pollen allergies are tough on me, but not as tough as oak pollen.

  • subarusaleshousubarusaleshou Member Posts: 161
is now pine pollen yellow. I'm becoming more and more interested in a silver car as I look at a nicely washed car that turns from beautiful dark green to yellow in 2 days.
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
I was at the body shop! :-D About what I expected, $760. They start tomorrow morning, should have it back Wed. or Thurs. depending on how long the paint needs.

Estimate does not include the scuffed rim. That would be a $140 refurb, and I think I can buy a new one for less. Or apply the cost to a set for the summer and use the scruffy set for salty ol' man winter.

Dan - congrats on your new house!

Loosh -- sorry about the accident. Glad to hear nobody was hurt.

    Juice, congratulations! We're coming...

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
We don't own it yet, but if all goes well (inspection, loan app, etc) then it would be in north Ocean City, very near the DE border and close to Fenwick Island.

  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
Then good luck, hope everything goes through as planned, sounds good. Is it much of a drive from your home?

      Cheers Pat.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
2.5 hours, 3 with kids because we usually have to stop once.

It's a decent road trip for a 3 day weekend. I imagine we'll use it often.

We have two friends that already own places and visit them often, in fact we've been going about 4 times per year even before we owned a place.

We're debating whether to rent or not, may only rent to friends (that would include the Crew naturally) for cheap. This first summer we may keep it to ourselves to set it up and enjoy the beach.

The Forester will get a lot of use, lots of extra miles. 60k now but probably will pick up the pace since it's our designated beach ride.

Nice Juice, that's not a bad trip. Good luck with it, and I'm sure we'll all be heading down for some fun in the sun! :) Shall I bring the SVX or the Legacy? hee hee

Would be wise to rent only to folks you are on good terms with, so you can be reasonably sure they will treat the place well.

143rd, you were close! It's 3 blocks from the ocean, on the bay side.

I don't want to jinx it, getting the financial papers out today, and calling to schedule an inspection. Hope the place is as good as it looks on the surface.

Same here, Juice. Home inspection is this Wednesday and mortage application starts Thursday. Busy, busy, busy.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Hmm, you probably have it in the right order. I did it the other way around. Hope the mortgage broker will waive the application fee if the place doesn't pass inspection and we buy another one!

    juice: congrats on the condo!

Tell me about pollen. Here in the Bay Area, the two weeks of 80 degree weather we had recently set off every single species of trees and flowers. I read in the paper that the pollen count this year is out the roof. I don't recall what the units were, but the count was around 5000. Normally, it's around 500 or so.

My black Forester has a funky light green haze to it.

Hey folks, I just posted a review of the Mr. Clean Auto Dry carwash system over in the Cleaning and Detailing topic.

For you OCDers that were wondering, the system does work as advertised.

Speaking of allergies...ah-choo!... made the mistake of driving home with some old mower blades on the floor on the passenger side... sneezed 4 times in a mile and a half! No yellow haze on the cars, yet, but it's only a matter of time.

    Cheers!

Quite the coincidence. Check out this excerpt from today's paper:

The count of 5,156 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air is the second-highest count on record, according to officials at the Atlanta Allergy and Asthma Clinic, which has tracked the city's pollen since 1987. And the normal peak of the spring pollen season is still a few days away.

FYI, anything over 50 is considered to be "extremely high". So even though I don't have any allergies to speak of I'm still thankful for my cabin air filter at times like this :-)

got a dang sinus infection last week. pollen doesn't bother me, it's dust and mold that are my biggies. oh and cat dander.

what was really annoying was after a few nights of continual drainage, I developed a bit of a chest cold. bleh!

my sympathies, fellow Subie lovers and allergy sufferers.
