Hang in there! From everything I've read and sensed, Anne Marie has a strong spirit (must have inherited it from someone :-) ) and she will overcome the physical issues in time. Continued prayers and good wishes.

Pat, still thinking of you guys.

    Brenda, congratulations! Rob M.

Pat- I was thinking the same thing that Bruce said regarding many eye problems getting better with time. Hopefully this will be the case with Anne Marie. The human body has remarkable healing powers and Anne Marie clearly has a strong spirit but we'll keep her in our thoughts and prayers just for insurance :-)

Brenda- Hey congratulations! I hope you don't talk as fast as you type, otherwise husband-to-be won't get a word in edgewise :(o)

Jim- Congratulations on the new Legacy GT!

We'll keep the thoughts and prayers coming your way Pat.

Brenda, how 'bout some pics of those sparklers (and their respective Subies)? ;-)

Only about 60 miles so far. I hope mpg gets better with time. 15.9 mpg with premium isn't so good. I'm not using the SPORTSHIFT really at all and no real spirited driving. I'll hope for the best.

I just found this discussion today. I must say it's great to have other Subaru owners to bounce things off!
I just bought a '05 Legacy GT Limited MT 5 days ago and would love to be a part of any discussion and learn from other people's wisdom about these cars. I've been very happy with mine over these few days. I had a '98 legacy wagon and I must say this car is in a whole different category! Did I already say I love this car? It really is a great car!

Jim, my trip computer says I'm getting a little over 21 mpg with my five speed, mostly in town driving up and down a lot of hills. I am keeping the rpms low while I'm breaking it in though.

Hope to get to know everyone more!

15.9mpg? that's awful! shouldn't be the low unless driven very hard...

in fact it's so low, I have to ask.. and yes this will be a dumb question.

but how are you computing the MPG?

    jim-
You sure you got a full tank when you picked up the car?

You've only gotten 60 miles into the break-in so I'm assuming the 15.9 mpg number is from your very first fill up and you didn't get a full tank when you picked up the car.

Hey Tom, welcome aboard! Yeah, this a great place to learn about Subies. Most of us "regulars" have been here for some time, and there have been many strong bonds formed. Would love to hear about life with your new ride. :)

Boy an 05 Legacy GT Limited MT, I'm almost jealous! Which color? I'll second what Bob said about this being a great place. If you scan thru some of the previous posts you'll quickly discover that we're practically bordering on being family here (albeit a Subaru owning one). In fact we're such a friendly crowd that we even have a couple of former Subaru owners who stick around just because!

Brenda - All the best on the direction your life's taking you. Enjoy them sparklies!

Pat - As has been mentioned, her vision problems may very well be temporary. It will take time, but with all of the support she has I'm sure she'll be OK. Keeping her in my thoughts, and you as well.

    Pat-
Glad to hear Ann Marie is feeling better; here's adding prayers that her eye sight improves with time.

Brenda- Congrats to the two of you!

Congrats (and jealous looks) to the new owners:-)

Thanks for the ongoing support, obviously we are all hoping for a good outcome for her eyes, time will tell I guess, otherwise she is making progress, she is gaining weight slowly and you can see some muscle tone coming back.

Her stamina is also improving, her lung function is still impaired, but they have told it will be a long recovery and she may have lung impairment, she was a smoker but has now quit hopefully for good, she is aware that smoking is now a no go.

Brenda, gongratulations on the impending nuptuals.

We have just set up a computer at the apartment but the hardrive is full, we have highspeed but the drive is so full it is slower than dial up, a lot of stuff will have to conme off for it to operate properly.

     Cheers Pat.
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
definitely not a bad thing to quit smoking. did she wear corrective lenses before this happened?

I still view all of this as a very positive outcome. God bless you and your family, Pat.

    I feel very welcome! :-)!

I have made some posts under 2005+ legacy/outback. I got a silver 5sp sedan, spoiler (I didn't really want it- but my kid wanted it and it was the only one the dealer had), compass mirror, and alarm upgrade. The car has been great and I've been waiting to get through the break in period so I can see what it can really do. It's very comfortable when just cruising, but it's nice to know you have power (alot!) on tap at any time if you need to dart into a break in traffic!

This is my second 'Subie', my first was a '98 legacy wagon, which was a great car too. This one's much more refined and solidly built. I had a Passat wagon, and I would say the build is comparable, although the Legacy feel's more substantial. Of course, I had a lot of problems with my Passat, and am much happier to have a Subie again!

    Thanks again everyone.

Pat, it's being studied that people who are being prayed for do better, and the data seems to be proving this to be true. I pray she does well. God Bless

have many fun and happy miles in your new Subaru! I think you'll find a well rounded, caring, educated and fun group here. Profile please? Do you own a dog (or a cat that looks like a dog, i.e. Juice?) Are you an engineer? Is your middle name Dave?

Welcome! You'll catch on to all of those questions soon enough.

I'm thrilled for you. After my practice round of marriage, I found that I've got it right this time. I hope your experience is the same. Ken and I will be celebrating our 20th anniversary next week - - and I can't imagine my life without him.

    Congrats!

so - wonder where I've been? Sorry I haven't posted, but I had a chance to test out a 2005 OB since last Thursday. Turned it over to someone else today. This car is great. I love the trans. - I never thought I'd be happy in an auto, but this does it for me! I had fun up shifting and down shifting all weekend, but it does tax the fuel.

My mpg was around 20, with playing around, but I was going by the display gauges, not an actual true test. From what I understand, that is not really accurate in the beginning. Time will tell. Now - if only I can get one for my next tests vehicle.

The seating was very comfortable. I'm thinking that the area under the seat was closed off for a reason. In checking a few things out, I found that some folks where knocking connections loose for the seat air-bags by feet and other items getting crammed under there. This is not an "official" SOA comment, just a personal observation. My son fit okay in the back, but noticed the inability to put his size 13's under the seat as he does now in my Forester.

This car has such a nice, smooth ride. It feels like a different car than the last OB I drove.

Maybe my husband won't buy the Forester I'm driving? He loves this one, but...

OK so locally on our NBC station WFIE Evansville we have a feature called "Streets of Speed" with Rhanda Stewart. Ms Stewart also does a consumer affairs feature called "Help me Rhanda" (I'm serious). On streets of speed she takes complaints from neighborhoods with speeders and then shows up with a radar gun and clocks cars as her crew films.

So there I was last week doing 36 in a 30 zone on Lincoln Ave. when I see this blonde pointing a radar gun at me. I'm sure they clocked dozens of cars that day but guess which one got shown on TV first. So if you have a Sonic Yellow (YWRX) watch out!

I'm glad to hear your comments -- I am seriously thinking about trading my 02 Bean for an 05 XT (or Legacy GT). Not sure if I will go with 5-spd or auto -- normally I'd be 5-spd all the way but the new 5EAT impressed the heck out of me while test driving a GT. The shifts are so fast and smooth!

The only downside to a new car is that I'd have to baby it for a couple years. Right now, my Bean is well worn in and I like not having to worry about it. For instance, I got a bunch of lumber and cinder blocks in the Bean this weekend, and would not feel right about doing that with a new XT!

Pat: thanks for the update, we're with you in spirit.

Brenda: wow, congrats! Does he pass your 100 word-per-minute typing test? :-)

Jim, Tom: congrats on the new cars, and welcome to the Crew! It's a fun group that's been around for 5 years or so, weekly chat and all...

Patti: XT? Hmm, send it down to me for important testing. Long-term testing. In fact, make that permanent testing. ;-)

My 20th is today Patti - last week's vacation was the celebration (and I didn't go back and skim all the posts in here, so here's a generic wtg that hopefully will cover most everything).

test drive down to your beach house - - - -but I wouldn't want to upset Sandy. She might see the XT as an intrusion to her new summer home. We have to be sensitive, you know?

    Patti

getting your cars to the point that you can actually enjoy them. My husband commented last night that our '90 is hard to replace for similar reasons. He does load a bunch of stuff in there without a worry. He also said he could be convinced to move on with the XT as an option though. He really loved this car. He wasn't thrilled with the dash as he's pretty much anti-gadget. But, considering he usually nit-picks the cars to death - that wasn't bad!

does he pass the typing test?

let's put it this way ... he typed well enough when I met him online that I moved here from Texas four years ago!

    Hey Dave,

Way back....... Sorry, but failure to be specific! Anyhow, you're just jealous 'cause she likes me better! ;-)

She once invited me to sleep in her guestroom. Did she make you a similar offer????

Can you clarify something for us? The Subaru website and brochure indicate that the non-Ltd Legacy GT comes with manual climate control and only the Ltd model has the auto dual zone system. However, all the GTs people are seeing on the lot, both non-Ltd and Ltd, have the auto D-Z climate control. Is this an error in the specs?

On a related note, the specs note a similar setup for the Outback XT (manual CC) and XT Ltd (auto D-Z CC). Is there an error here too?? I can do without leather and a moonroof, but would like to get that auto D-Z CC system in a regular Outback XT.

I too look at it as positive when you look at the origional scenario, the sad thing about the eyes is that she had perfect vision before this, so when you go from perfect vision to impaired vision overnight it is a big adjustment.

Tom welcome to the crew and thanks for the positive comments Re my daughter.

     Cheers Pat.
