Sorry I’m so late to jump on the Patti wagon :-) but I’ve been traveling.

Since I was one of the previous letter writers, of course Patti influenced my decision to buy a Subaru but there’s far more to it than that… I’ve been busy proselytizing the uneducated masses on how Subaru is such a special company that actually cares about its customers and Patti’s presence here on Edmunds is a cornerstone of my speech!

Now having said that, I can definitely see where Patti’s continued presence here could be an issue (as Dave pointed out in post # 23075). What I can’t see is why SOA would be so quick to permanently send her to the dungeon without making a concerted effort to identify and train a replacement. And yes I realize that being Patti’s successor would be a tough task since he or she would have awfully big shoes to fill!

P.S. Bob- Glad to hear that the surgery went well and that Deb is doing okay.

As the old timers know, every year I like to come up with a song adapted for us Subie nuts.

So first go get some egg nog, then lemme know if you like the one I came up with this year. It's too hard to top my 12 Days of Christmas, but I'm trying!

Sung to the tune of Jingle Bells

    Dashing through the snow

    In an all-wheel-driven sleigh

    Neighbor wants to go...

    He's stuck in his driveway

    Snow just makes it fun

    It's not such a chore

    So make a second run

And take him to the store

    OH

    It's a gas, to save his.....hide ;-)

    Traction all the way

Oh what fun it is to ride

    In an all-wheel driven sleigh

Actually, I be in Sao Paulo, Fortaleza, Recife, and Joao Pessoa, but not Rio (this time).

I'll try to pop in to say hello if I get a chance. I'm looking forward to checking out all the quirky cars, though. My mom has a Fiat (the one my brothers and I gave her) and my brother has a Citroen Xsara Picasso, an egg-like thing.

In fact I'll see if I can drive it and then write a review on it. ;-)

I am not one for announcing ahead of time, but I had surgery today to remove for study some enlarged limph nodes from my chest. Orthoscopic adventure from the collar bone down to beside the heart.

The event got off to a very strange start when they forgot to lock the wheels on the gurney and almost dropped me while transfering to the operating table! A couple of extra bruises from the multitude of hands that clutched at me as I disappeared into the void....

Anyhow, I am home. About to pop some Tyl+codine and head to bed. Now comes the wait for the results. I am really not expecting it to be anything, and almost took a pass on even having it done. Discovered by a routine chest x-ray, confirmed by ct-scan.

Steve, rest well and enjoy that Tylenol #3 (or 4 or 5). It works wonders.

Hah, I think of you as such an EE that you're probably dreaming of electric sheep. :)

I think I waited way too long to pop some pills, and it took a while to get on top of the discomfort. Note to self - no benefit in trying to be a hero. Pretty sleepless night, but I made up for it by sleeping to after noon.

Electric sheep, latkas & shnopps, Chanukah surgery. Gotta love you people, as you are just as crazy as I am!

This past weekend we celebrated Annie's second birthday and first 'gotcha day' with two days of parties. Saturday with friends, Sunday with family. It is hard to believe that we were in China a year ago. So my folks stayed over for a few extra days to help with the kids while Beth spent the day at the hospital with me. Now she has crashed and is asleep while I type away.

Dave, thanks for asking, she is starting to really move along now, she is making positive plans for getting on with her life. It has been a hard road for her she has had horrible depression for months now but that seems to be getting as well.

      Cheers Pat.

And I thought I would post it, I think it is especially relevant to those of us who have some trauma or worry at the present time, I thought of you Steve when I read it today.

    The Present of Time

Imagine there is a bank that credits your account each morning with $86,400.

It carries over no balance from day to day. Every evening it deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day.

What would you do? Draw out every cent of course!!!!!

Each of us has such a bank. Its name is TIME. Every morning it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it writes off, as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to good purpose.

    It carries over no balance.

    It allows no overdraft.

Each day it opens a new account for you.

Each night it burns the remains of the day.

If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours.

    There is no going back.

There is no drawing against "tomorrow."

You must live in the present in today's deposits.

Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness, and success!

The clock is running. Make the most of today.

To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who failed a grade.

To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby.

To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.

To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers to meet.

To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who missed the train.

To realize the value of ONE SECOND, ask a person who has won a silver medal in the Olympics.

Treasure every moment that you have! And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time.

And remember that time waits for no one.

    Yesterday is history

    Tomorrow is a mystery

    Today is a gift

That's why it's called the present!!!

      Cheers Pat.

Pat - cheers to your daughter. She's a real fighter.

my stepson had major surgery yesterday ... he is 14 and had a 'concave breastbone' .. they made small incisions on either side near his ribs, inserted a curved steel bar, and pushed his breastbone out several inches ... while he is in a good deal of pain, he has (and will have for a few days) an epidural and also has a morphine IV that he can self-administer .. but he is also doing well in spite of it all .. he has a 'normal' chest which looks nice, but also will give his heart the room it needs .. his breastbone was displacing his heart slightly ...

we will be at the hospital for a few more days before he is discharged .. but for now, things seem to be going well for him ...

Hope everyone is doing well .. I'll catch up on all the other posts in a few days ..

Brenda, that is good news! I've never heard of that before! Why did they wait until he was 14 to have this done?

    Brenda,

That's some major surgery and I'm glad it's gone well. I recall seeing a news report about that particular condition.

Okay, no major surgery annoucement here, but I'm going to be changing jobs within my company with the start of the new year.

After having been in the semiconductor industry for close to 7 years, I've decided to transfer to the Life Sciences and Chemical Analysis group within my company. I've been wanting to see other parts of my company and I've also been wanting to return to a field closer to my original educational background.

I'll be managing service and consulting products in our growing bio-analysis group.

No change to my commute as I simply move up one floor in our office building. :-)

Epidurals are nice, glad they put one in.

Although IV morphine is nice too!

  • ladywclassladywclass Member Posts: 1,713
they usually do this surgery after they go through puberty (as it usually worsens then and can tell a bit more about how it might affect heart/lungs) and before bones harden ..
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
glad to hear everything went well, It's amazing what they can do nowadays.

Ken Congratulations, and like Bob says I hope the new job makes the wallet fatter.

      Cheers Pat.

Congrats on new job! I do believe Life Sciences and all things that start with bio- medical- or chem- will be only growing in the future as population ages and new advances in bio/medical field will be well funded.

we have already joked about the way it will affect metal detectors ... lol

he's doing well .. had a small amount of fever last night, but they say it's not unusual and they are watching his lungs since he is lying down so much .. he is up more today (in the bed) and will probably sit up in a chair at some point today .. he had a bit of a rough night, and finally ate a cookie and drank some milk just a bit ago .. really the first he's eaten since wednesday ... he's doing well .. just takes awhile and there is a lot of pain to 'manage' ... he's still on the epidural and has his morphine IV although it is causing quite a bit of itching .. i think he will get some benedryl in a bit ..

Thanks for the concern, guys ..

    Brenda
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
Glad he's doing well. If the Morphine is causing him to itch they can change it to Dilaudid or Fentanyl iv. Oftentimes that will decrease the itching, but it's a common side effect of all narcotic pain medications. Just tell them your friend is a pain specialist and was just asking (you need to be really careful when making helpful suggestions to doctors- some have very big egos!) ;-)
