I hope it uses up less real estate. I have a relatively generous 1280x854 screen on my laptop, and have to scroll down to start reading posts. In other words, they are chewing up one whole screen height with all the Charger ads, the big INSIDE LINE banner, and then the forum graphics. That's about the worst web design strategy I have seen, ads or not.

so I get this mailer from Liberty Mutual , my insurance company, it is a compilation of Highway Loss Data Institute claims for 01-03 models and its real interesting, 100 is "average"

WRX sedan-had an average injury claim (107)(only Jetta, V40 and Golf better) vs WRX wagon -substantially better than average(66) , in fact it was the best small wagon (followed by regular Impreza and then Jetta).

even better still, the collision claims rate was 244 for the WRX sedan(substantially worse than average) and 139 for the wagon(still substantially worse than average but look at the difference)!

    other Subes
Legacy/OB sedan - injury 83- average (below I35, G35, Passat(better than average) and A4 quattro, Passat 4WD, Avalon (substantially better than average)

but for the Legacy /OB wagon- injury rate
64, substantially better than average and only beaten by Saturn LW and Passat, and the Legacy/OB beats the Passat 4WD!

other weird things, of the 3 identical GM minivans, injury rate for the Olds and Pontiac are only 2/3 that of the identical Chevy. Go figure!

The best minivan is a Grand Caravan 4WD, beating all the other minivans which get the 4 star crash ratings, Windstar, Ody, Sienna etc !

the car with the worst injury claims is the Kia Spectra, followed by the Mitsu Lancer and the Suzuki Aereo and Kia Rio.

the worst collision claim of all is the WRX sedan, then the 911 coupe, followed by the IS300, RSX, Tiburon!

I've read somewhere once that the WRX wagon owner demographic is something like 40s, male, college grad or higher, 100k + income (which fits me to a T). The WRX sedan owner demographics I have never seen but from this data is likely to be probably 20ish , male with to much testosterone and time on his hands! :-)

Pat, when you post a pic to imageshack, it should give you a page with a few different links on it. One will direct link to the photo, another will make a clickable thumbnail print, etc. There should be a couple of sections for different postings like email or forums. Look for the one with the href tags and copy that to paste here.

    -Brian
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
here's your url to that pic: http://img182.exs.cx/img182/7941/im0007216rw.jpg

Now add a "th" for thumbnail to it: http://img182.exs.cx/img182/7941/im0007216rw.th.jpg

    and you get this:
    image

or this when you use the href tags they provide (this one is clickable):

you may get what you're wishing for on Sunday. Give me some feedback on the snow shoes when you get a chance to try them out.

I locked 'em up on dry tarmac this morning with my snow tires, 235/45-17 Dunlop Wintersport M3.

In 40mph zone, two lanes each direction, I'm slowly going past a truck pulling a small backhoe on a trailer. He happens to be in the left lane and I'm in the right, which I think might be illegal in Kansas. (We can pass on the right on divided highway/interstate.)

Anyway, I'm about one car length behind the backhoe portion and a HUGE clod of dirt roughly the size of a soccerball detaches about 6 feet off the ground and headed into my lane. No cars are behind me.

I get on the brakes hard and hear 4 chirps, then ABS engages. The "soccerball" hits the ground about 10 feet in front of me (it was instantly going 40 MPH too, thank god) and fortunately it disintegrates into pieces no bigger than a golf ball. I stay on the brakes, don't bother changing lanes, and safely pass over the small clods doing about 15-20 MPH.

Then I continue about my business and accelerate, then finish my pass. Not even a bit of increased pulse or breathing... the brakes are that good. :) I was lucky on the timing of the dirt clod --or unlucky that I had to act at all!-- but the rest worked out fine due to good machinery and an OK driver. ;)

but will be outdated (again!) once the facelifted Impreza debuts, which should be in a few months.

Maybe they can easily replace the images as needed.

Pat: Mac is huge! I guess I'm used to seeing his puppy pictures.

Ed: like I said in the chat last night, Forester is the Rodney Dangerfield of SUVs, it gets no respect!

Dennis: interesting, but I wish they'd "regularize" the data to take into account the demographic of the owners.

In other words, Tiburon probably ranks poorly because young males buy them. And I don't think a wagon is inherently safer than a sedan, it's just more likely to have kids in it, hence more conservative driving.

These are the tires Mike gave me. They're mounted on black steelies, making the Toaster look downright nasty. :)

    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Dunlop&tireModel- - - - - =Graspic+DS-1

Hmmm... You may have to delete the dashes and spaces before the last equal sign to get this link to work; it should look like: Model=Graspic

  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
older tire... marshmellow shoulder and squirmy tread make them less than perfect on dry tarmac, but very good in the nasty stuff.

a friend had those on an A4 a few years back and he liked them a lot.

boo for so many things to do that it seems like work ...

last night just as I was about to fall asleep ... EYES WIDE OPEN AND AN 'EXCLAMATION' (you decide what) ... my car registration expired last Monday .... soooo first thing this morning had to make a trip to the BMV ... the one closest to us is absolutely ridiculous .. always a VERY long line and usually an hour or more wait to get the business done ...

decided to try another location a bit south of us and off the beaten path ... a quick drive on a morning where we were getting lake effect snow, but then out of that and into the sunshine .. about 25 miles .. nice drive ..I walk in and there are 3 clerks and .... can I believe my eyes? ... I'M the ONLY customer ... in and out in about 3 minutes ... nice drive home ...

I'll remember that for the next time I have BMV business!! ... since the other one is 'in' town it takes me about 20 min or more to get there anyway ... not that much longer to go a little further ... and certainly FASTER overall!

soooo .. after the BMV ... I had the 'annual' exam at the gyno .. ok .. I'll save you guys from that one ... lol

as you can see it is an exciting 'holdiay' from school ... :P

Brenda- Enjoy your days off. Hope everything went well with the c/up.

Steve - hope all is well with Beth.

Hope everyone has a nice enjoyable/quiet weekend. I'm off to Cancun in the AM for a week.
    See you then.

In PA all it takes is a couple of clicks on the internet and a credit card to renew your registration. If your registration has already expired, you can then print out a temporary registration that's good for ?? days (enough time until they mail the registration). I haven't mailed in a renewable for several years.

Glad to hear you had a nice drive and are enjoying your 4 day weekend.

yeah .. we can do it online, too as long as you get it done about 2 weeks before the deadline .. even have self-service kiosks if it's not past due .. oh well
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
Yep, the Forester gets no love. So Edmunds, who is responsible for designing the new chat banner, I think a *few* of us would like that person to hear us out.

juice, Mac is still very small it is the way he is sitting that makes him look big I think. He only measures 13-1/2" from the shoulder to ground.

    Cheeers Pat.

Colin: sounds perfect for Bob's trips to the county waste yard.

Pat: must be the pic's perspective, then. He looks almost mid-sized. What does he weigh? He looks like a 40 lb dog in that photo!

haha, my two Jack Russell Terriers are 13 and 22 lbs. the smaller one is female and she was the runt of the litter, too.

Hadji peaked around 12.5 lbs or so. He's 12 years old now and thinned out a bit, so he's just 10 lbs. Still very healthy.

weighs in at 115+. He is a little stocky, but is a huge boned German Shephard. Yet gentle enough that my 2 yr old feeds him & gives him most of his treats. Yes, he is a REAL dog.

I have just gotta figure out how to append a photo...

On the Beth front, we had a very good session down at Sloan-Kettering. What a great place! They want to review everything before rendering an opinion, so it will be a week or so before we have an answer.

our Golden Retriever weighs in around 95 pounds, and she's 8 years old—but still just a BIG puppy. When juice came by with the family after the Philly show, Annie got a hold of one Tatania's shoes, and ran outside with it. It took some creative thinking to divert her attention so that we could get the shoe back. The kids loved it! :)

Our Daughter has a mini schnauzer like Mac a standard schnauzer and a huge German Shephard, believe it or not the Mini schnauzer is most definitely the boss dog, he runs the other 2 totally ragged.

Here is why I need a wagon: Mauna Kea, Great Pyr--145 lbs.
    Alyseka, Alaskan Malamute--110 lbs.

one more reason to love an Outback .... I went yesterday and bought a table and four chairs (42" round) and paid for delivery only now there won't be anyone home on Tuesday ... I call back today to be sure they're open ... they are but no 'warehouse' help ...(put my wrench in my coat pocket) ... and I drive over, sit in the floor of the furniture store (it's more like a 'warehouse' lol) .. and take four bolts out holding the top to the pedestal ... carry the top out and put it in the back ... carry out the pedestal ... (did I mention I picked up a handful of towels on my way out, too .. you know to pad things) ... put one chair in the left rear door, one chair in the right rear door (nesting) .. one chair in the passenger seat ... pad the tabletop and put in the pedestal, and in the back on the tabletop, the last chair ... made it home with everything in good form ... no scratches ...

it's put back together and looks just as good as I thought it would .. YAY ...

    gotta love an Outback ...
  • hypovhypov Member Posts: 3,068
You probably could stow another two chairs in there. :)
I managed six dining chairs and two passengers in my '98 OB. The second passenger was pint size though (GF) and quazi legal where the rear seats had been.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
As opposed to my dog, which is fake. ;-)

Annie was hysterical. Eventually we retrieved the shoe from the Retriever.

Kate: I'm with you, I say the next banner should have just 3 Foresters, one XS, an LL Bean, and an XT. Now we're talking!

Brenda: same here, love that roof rack! We picked up a full-size bed for my son, who outgrew his crib, and managed to get it home on the rack since the inside was already full.

And that is why I will never own anything but a wagon I always get a kick out of watching people trying to shove oversized objects into the dinky trunks on regular sedans.

    Cheers Pat.
