we were laughing last weekend when we saw the guy at home depot loading stuff in his jaguar ... don't get me wrong .. i LOVE the look of the jaguar but i just don't see hauling home improvement supplies in one!

Know what you mean, see that on a regular basis and never fail to get a kick out of it, saw a guy on the weekend trying to get a big TV into an Accord. I think he was gonna hit me I said 2 into 1 don't go and kept on walking.

    Cheers Pat.

I made a Home Depot run for a friend who was remodeling his house (he drives a 2-door coupe). I easily fit about 20 kitchen cabinet boxes in the back and 600 linear feet of base board plus two doors on the roof rack. I was probably close to the weight capacity but my friend was amazed that I fit it all (before my offer to help he was on the verge of renting a truck).

Just returned from a ski trip to the NH lakes region. Excellent ski conditions over the weekend, although a bit cold for me - single digits to teens. Drove home in 8 inches of fresh snow. Only got 20 mpg. Probably because it was grossly overloaded (my wife likes to bring everything she owns!) LOL.

I am convinced that my wife's Outback hates me. Three weeks ago, I broke the windshield. Today, I dragged the front bumper on pavement backing down the driveway and lost the tow hook cover on the front bumper. Rob M.

Careful or you'll wind up like that guy with the slammed Jetta!

(6" of new at Bogus today Rob and no new dents on the Outback).

a Legacy GT wagon. I was getting some stuff out of my wagon at lunch when a co-worker that I've never met before stepped out of his Saab Aero hatchback and started asking me how I like my car.

One thing he was keen on were rear folding seats. On cue, I swung open the rear door, pushed one button and showed him how the seats fold flat without moving the bottom cushion. He was thoroughly impressed with the cargo space and versatility.

He was cross-shopping the Mazda 6 wagon but I think I made his mind up today.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Cool, Ken.

The 6 wagon actually has a neat button that releases the spring-loaded back seat and folds it automatically. I'm not sure if you need to remove the seat base to fold it flat, though.

The real reason to pick the Subie is the turbo powertrain and the AWD. 6 is FWD/V6 only with an open front diffy and the torque steer that comes with it.

What was also interesting was that the co-worker owns a Porsche Carrera in addition to his Saab. It kind of makes one think about who shops the Legacy GT.

I mentioned the Outback XT to him also, but he looked at me like as if it were a completely different vehicle. I guess to non Subie enthusiasts, the LGT and OBXT can be night and day.

Did he know that the LGT has a boxer? :-D

Come to think of it, we didn't talk about that. I started to mention it uses the same engine block as the WRX STi, but I think he only heard "WRX".

I'll make sure he gets that connection the next time I see him in the parking lot.

I will bring you all up to date later...got to get ready for school

By "TT" do you mean "True Type?" Are you on a MAC?

I don't know what the font is, but if you need the SWRT logo, you can find it here:

I would strongly suggest you all breathe. ;-) 4 out of 5 doctors prefer it over not breathing. ;-)

Got back from a few days up at Whistler- it was 50 degrees and sunny! Skiing was pitiful. 5 feet off the groomed runs was dead grass! The ski businesses are taking a beating here in the NW this year. Oh well, the kids still enjoyed it, so I guess that made it all worthwhile.

Hey, the new banner is an improvement. I wish the Tribeca was in the back and the LGT in the front. The LGT is much nicer looking!

Hope to make it to the chat next week!

Got about 4" late last week, wonder if Bob got a chance to sample those snow tires...

Another storm hits tonight, so we'll see. This year has been pretty light in terms of snow fall.

Yes I did. They are very grippy. You really can feel a difference.

Bummer the skiing was not as good as expected.

I went north to the lakes region last weekend. Temperatures in the single digits, and teens by noon. Conditions were awesome and fast! Surprisingly with school vacation there were no lift lines.

Drove home Monday in 8-10 inches of snow. Got 3-4 on Friday, and now expecting 8-12 tomorrow. I'll wish some your way. Rob M

It hit 60 today in Boise and the violets are blooming. We'll try the hill tomorrow, and we're hoping it still gets cold enough overnight at 6,000 feet so what snow is left will set up for the groomers. Send some our way too!

Italians won the 51k Subaru Birkebeiner in Wisconsin today. An Idahoan took 3rd in the womans field (sort of snowy and topical?).

Although non-breathers are job security for some of us :)

According to Lookout Pass snow report, 'snow in the forecast'!

Good thing... bought new skis today :)
    (for next year!)

    Cheers!

I headed into the Appalachian mountains of VA last Thursday while it was snowing. Had a good day of skiing! On the way up the mountain, I ended up passing a whole line of cars that were slipping and spinning their wheels. Honestly, I didn't notice any slippage in the Outback, it was pretty cool. Made going up the mountain a non-event.

I'll take some of that snow, Rob!

Oh well, there's always next year. . .

Paul, hope you get a chance to try out your skis! (On something other than carpet!)

we're under winter storm warning for tomorrow and Tuesday ... looks like quite a bit of lake effect headed our way ... (subearu's 'leftovers')
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
my leftovers, eh? I ate all my dinner this evening ;-)

it was raining here most of this evening but has started to become sleet/wet snow. It's about 34F at the time of this posting. should be changing to all snow sometime after midnight. they're calling for 1-3 inches possible here by morning, with another inch tomorrow and chances of snow through Tuesday night. March comes in like a lion, right?

    -Brian
  • dcm61dcm61 Member Posts: 1,567
6 to 12 inches forecasted for tomorrow in SE PA.

    DaveM
  • ladywclassladywclass Member Posts: 1,713
yeah but after it crosses the lake WE have 10-15 inches predicted!
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
Hey, you can send some of that snow our way, I won't mind!

We only got about 1" last night and the forecast today is another 1" possible. It's a very wet snow.

  • rob_mrob_m Member Posts: 820
What did you get for skis, Paul?

I retired my 14 year old Olin's for a set of Salomon Verse 10 all-mountain shaped skis. What a difference! Rob M.
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
but so far this winter, if you took the predictions and halved them, you would be pretty much spot on.

Oh, and Brian: Please eat your leftovers. Brenda can make her own. ;-)

Heard from Sylvia the other day regarding Patti's situation here at Edmunds, and it's not good. I know Edmunds has tried very hard, working behind the scene, to try and get her back here. Unfortunately it hasn't worked out. It all has to do with Patti's new job at SOA. SOA has said that they will try to find a replacement (How do you replace Patti???), but so far nobody at SOA has stepped forward...

I'm not sure what to to do at this point. I'm all for another writing campaign, if that's what everyone here wants to do. I know juice has been very busy these last few weeks, and I'm going to also get very busy with my work for the next couple of months.

If everyone wants to do another writing campaign, that's fine with me. I'd like to get some feedback from you guys first.

Hum, maybe it's time for a career change? According to yahoo maps driving to Cherry Hill only adds 15 miles each way to my commute. But those 15 extra miles probably take another 45 to 60 minutes. :-(

    DaveM

P.S. Bob, thanks for the update.

I'd be happy to write a letter but I honestly don't see it helping to bring Patti back. In her previous capacity, she was the perfect fit to be SOA's rep with Edmunds but since she changed jobs, that no longer holds true. Unfortunately, to replace Patti, SOA would need to find someone who loves Subarus, is extremely knowledgeable about them, is unfailingly polite and diplomatic, works in the customer service dept AND (this is the big one) who is willing to do the job for free in his/her spare time! This seems like an awfully tall order (but then we all knew that Patti would be hard to replace). Therefore, in order to realistically replace Patti, I think SOA will need to make the Edmunds position part of someone’s official job description (and compensate them accordingly). Of course before SOA can do that, they will need to be convinced that having an official presence on Edmund’s contributes significantly to their bottom line. While that may be obvious to us regulars, I doubt SOA will be easily convinced and that’s where I see a letter writing campaign possibly being effective.

    -Frank

P.S. I don’t see any reason why Patti can’t continue posting on Edmunds as a “regular member” as long as we respect her current position and don’t put her into an awkward situation by asking her to intervene on anything SOA related.
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
That's a bummer. I knew it was a long shot but I was hoping for a breakthrough with Patti.

[SOA] will need to be convinced that having an official presence on Edmund’s contributes significantly to their bottom line.

I agree too. Although it's made repeat customers out of some of us, it's probably too small to even make a difference in the grand scheme of things. In the end it's all about having measurable return on investment.

Is there something that's prevent Patti from participating as a regular member?

How about maybe Edmunds "invite" (nominate) a replacement?

Say, maybe invite Ms Denise Schwartz?
I think she would be a good replacement, from my correspondence with her... that was many moons ago.

That's a good idea Dave, but I don't know who that person is. I still hope we can keep something going with Patti. Maybe the CHATS? Something...

I don't believe that there's any company mandate barring Patti (the private citizen) from participating in this forum or any other forums. Otherwise, we won't be seeing Samir as we have over at nabisco.

  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
Maybe the better question -- what was in it for Subaru back when Patti joined? Has anything changed since then? Maybe we just need to remind them why they should provide a replacement.

  • p0926p0926 Member Posts: 4,423
Craig- I think you missed my point... Patti's participation wasn't really costing SOA anything but finding a suitable replacement would.

    -Frank
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Go look in the problems threads, there have been at least a few head gasket victims that have given up on the brand entirely. Patti would have picked up on these and taken care of them, as she did so many other times.

The last message I sent to SoA didn't even get a response, which is sad.

They read these threads, so...Hey SoA - send Patti back, or at least somebody!

Since last posting, a few interesting things have occurred. First, I now have my own class! (at least for the rest of the year). One of the 8th grade American History teachers here at Westglades Middle Shcool resigned due to family illness and personal issues and went back to Pittsburgh. The fisr few days were tough; because of all she was going thru, the students hadn't had any tests of quizzes, very little classwork, and no homework. Needless to say, that changed and they were pretty upset; however, they realize that grades need to be entered. I have been finding some interesting lesson plans online, trying to use as many primary sources as possible, and I'm hoping to use the textbook as little as possible. This will also enable me to give grade-level assemblies for Holocaust Education month, which I did last year but on a class level. The workload is greater, but I am pleased. The school is scheduled to lose students next year, so this position is somewhat tenuous, but the experience will add to my skills and resume.
Next news, we won a trip to Disneyworld. We were watching a show on PAX tv on Mission space, the new ride at Epcot (fabulous, btw) and just before a commercial break, they put a number on the screen to try to be the 10th caller; Susan called; the first 2 times it was busy, but she got thru on the third try and the operator told her she was the winner! Turned out to be the following: 5 days 4 nights at Saratoga Springs Resort, one of their newer properties, 4 5-day park hopper passes, airfare, 500 Disney dollars. Since we are only 3 hours from Disney, we arranged to fly down one of Michael's camp buddies from NJ and a full size rental car in lieu of airfare for 4.
With spring break coming up Mar 16th, we decided that would be a good time.
    Hope all of you who have been ill have recovered;
Re:patti, I would love to see a replacement.

Atomic C7's (end of season closeout) Current Dynastar Agyl's were beat up to begin with (bought 'em used at a rental shop). Keeping those for rocks & stumps, and won't get on the new ones 'til next season.

    Cheers!

my mint $0.02 if I may be so bold.

It isn't so much with that no one at SoA has stepped forward to be a replacement or not able to find a suitable replacement.

I'm betting there's an internal wrangling going on between certain sector(s) within SoA and CDS in relation to the cyberspace arena.

That's my speculation... and I'm usually not too off target.
