when I go to the bookmarked page for the subaru crew, I see the 'sign-in' although I have signed in and asked for it to 'remember passwords for this site' ...

what I HAVE noticed lately is that if I hit the webpage again through the bookmark that the second time it shows me signed in ... without having signed in again ...

    anyone else notice this?

anything I can do so I only have to click once???

I tried bookmarking again, but the same results ...

And NO, we don't want you here... ;)

Heck, if I can be accepted with my lowly Mazda 3SP, you can dwell here...:D

Keep us posted on the experience... it'll be sooner than later when we'll see the Subie Hybrid... oh wait, someone said that already :)

Hey guys, I'm assuming Subaru will get some of this technology from Toyota, and it's really good.

After a week with the car I can truly say the system is seamless. I can't tell without looking at the computer readout if I'm running on electric, gas, or both. The engine starts and stops almost imperceptibly, and kicks in instantaneously when needed. Very well engineered. Basically, you just drive it like you would any normal car.

And that electric motor has some torque- the acceleration is impressive for a car that gets such good mileage. R&T tested it 0-60 in 7.3 sec. C&D 7.7 sec. I would agree with these numbers- the CVT gets it into the most optimum rev band and keeps it there. Neat.

The car is also dead silent. It's eerie. I think it's about Lexus quiet. I can see how it could be scary for pedestrians who can't hear you coming!

It also handles reasonably well. Toyota did a nice job in significantly improving the suspension and handling without sacrificing a comfortable ride.

The bad- the electric power steering is miserable. I feel like I'm playing a video game- no feedback whatsoever. The brakes are weird (regenerative braking system)and a little long but I suppose that goes with the territory. The exhaust sound is aweful- a tin can exhaust.

By the computer, I am up to 37mpg and climbing. Assuming it's calculating high, that's still incredible for such a big car- and it is big. A lot bigger than my leggy.

I could imagine a hybrid Subie, the engine running to the rears with the electric motors driving the fronts on demand. It could be very sporting! (and fast!) No turbo needed- 80ft-lbs of boost from the hybrid engine- with no lag! Technology can be fun!

Anyway, thanks for all the support. It's made my transition easier (but I stare at every LGT that goes by) But I hope my sacrifice is giving everyone a glimpse of Subaru's future hybrid!

I will be leaving for Korea for 2 weeks on Monday, so I'll be out of the loop for a while. I'll touch base again when I get back!

Going to go see "A Prairie Home Companion" today with the family. It's playing down at the local Lake Wobegon Bajou. And afterwards we'll all go out and have some rhubarb pie for dessert. :)

We had the same race my home! :) My 2-year-old's Richard Burns WRX vs. our guests' 6-year-old's Crash McQueen (is that the right name? haven't seen Cars yet). Different outcome in our race, though, with the WRX simply lacking enough oomph. Can't wait 'til my boy is old enough for some bigger Subie toys (for me to play with, of course.

Edmunds just did a test on the new Camry hybrid.

    It's Lightning McQueen, actually.

The WRX was a freebie from a Subaru event, I don't recall which one. Great little toy, that thing sling shots like a bullet, quickest car/toy I've seen that isn't motorized.

Anybody else out there have these words from "High School Musical" ringing in their heads? This father's day weekend I got treated to an overdose of HSM as 4 excited girls sang and acted out all the numbers over and over and....... But as much as I grouse, I video taped and enjoyed watching it play out.

This was a special Fathers Day. 10 years ago on June 18th, 1996, in a small city half way around the world, we received our daughter Emily. She was just under 4 months old at the time. To celebrate, we spent the weekend with one of the families we have remained close with from that trip, and bored the kids to tears with video tapes of China, the orphanage, and our early days together. They got revenge by playing HSM over and over and.....

No, but I had a nice Father's Day at the beach condo with the family.

I'm soccer-crazed right now, USA is out but Brazil is in, even if they lose today against Japan. Then most likely they will play Ghana, we'll see.

Soccer fans can join us in cheering on Brazil if your team is out. :)

Hey... we can talk about CARS tonight while it's fresh in my mind. Just got back from seeing it for a second time. (A nephew is staying with me for the week and hadn't seen it yet)

Guido the forklift is really growing on me :P

I always admire the way Brazil team plays soccer... I cannot put finger on it, but their play is usually more sort of... playful. Each game with Brazil is an almost 100% guaranteed excitement.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Yes, the Brazil team is exciting to watch. I happened to catch part of the Brazil/Japan game today while at the gym. Not sure of the outcome, but Brazil was winning when I left.

I am new to this forum thing. I registered because I am wondering if any of you folks have any information about the possibility of Subaru offering an optional automatic transmission in the future for the Legacy Spec.B or if anyone can recommend any Subaru sites that may provide future product information, news, etc.? Any response would be greatly appreciated.
FYI, in addition to being a very satisfied owner of a 1997 Legacy Outback Limited wagon, I also own a Lexus LS400 and a Mercedes-Benz 500SL. The Subaru is my favorite vehicle, after the Lexus.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
I think a spec.B auto can be had in Japan (or some other market), but I doubt very much if it will be offered here. If you're interested in the automatic, what about the the regular Legacy GT?

    Bob
  • carsinccarsinc Member Posts: 4
Thank you for responding. Yes, the basic GT 2.5 will be an option. Although I am intrigued by the unique nature and purpose-built idea behind the Spec.B. I understand why the manual is offered, yet if Audi S/RS or Mercedes-Benz AMG models are automatic-equipped, I don't see any shame in Subaru doing the same. In fact, I would think it would broaden the appeal and increase overall sales.
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
We had a HUGE set of T-storms that hit about 8 PM here and took out power in most of the area. Didn't return in time for me to get to the chat.
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
Since Subaru just introduced the Spec B this past year and decided to make it a non-limited production vehicle, they are testing how much of a market there is for this model. I would imagine if sales continued to prove themselves, tranny options could be possible.

If you wanted Spec B handling but an AT, you could take Bob's recommendation and upgrade the suspension. The Spec B suspension bits would bolt up to a standard 2.5 GT. The only thing that would be difficult to emulate would be the Torsen diff.

Anybody looking for a new Subie, and want a SOA VIP discount?

I was recently in touch with Dave Sullivan, the SOA Brand Manager for the Tribeca, and he passed on this bit of info. It could be a good deal for those interested.

By the way, if you happen by the Wilmington, DE area, I'll be working at
Matt Slap Subaru for a week starting the 11th (part of some
cross-training for me this summer). Bring some folks by that want to
buy a car, and I can hook them up with VIP.....! :-D

I'm assuming he means July 11.

Brazil won 4-1, even though Japan scored first. And they did have a lot of the "jogo bonito" that we like to see, i.e. pretty play. They use their heels, no-look passes, one-touch, cool stuff.

ESPN had a little intro where they compared the moves of the Brazilian soccer players to basketball and football legends in the US, it was very cool.

CARS - can't believe it but I still have not gone. We got free passes to watch Garfield, which was OK, and I took my daughter to see Over the Hedge (better) on her birthday, but CARS was not out yet.

No spec.B auto, but a GT Limited is close, and value-priced too. Plus you can get it in a wagon.

Thanks for the reply and your thoughts.
You are correct, while a suspension upgrade would be an option, the Torsen would not be available at least at this time. Maybe Subaru will add it to the 2.5 GT in the future? Previous reviews on the '06 Spec.B commented on (decried)the lack of a differential. It seems to be the thing to have.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The Torsen is on the rear axle, and the front axle is carrying about 55% of the weight and would benefit most.

You could probably go out and get a Quaiffe and have it installed yourself, about $900 for the hardware alone. Kinda pricey, installed, though.

Thanks for the reply and your suggestion.
As a rule, I do not like to stray too far from oem mechanicals. Primarily for warranty, operation and maintenance issues/reasons. I appreciate your insight, though.
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
The main reason you want torsen up front is because the front wheels do the steering, and without an LSD it's very easy to lose traction on the inside tire.

    It's not weight. :)

Sounds like you're describing my driving and parallel parking style. :shades:

    (kidding!)

Not a big soccer fan, but all three teams that I was rooting for are out: Japan, USA & Poland.

    Ok, this is pretty funny.

Type in your name here, tell me what you get.

As you may know, Brazilians tend to go by a single name, a nick name. Technically, mine would be Airton = diminuitive is Airtinho = shortened to just "Tinho".

But this is pretty funny, what do you get?
