-Frank
First time I was ever sad about selling a car. What the heck is it with Subaru's that does that?
-Dan-
She's been my mistress for 9 years now.

My Forester is already 6 years old. Boy, do I love that car. Anyone to guess how many miles on it?
I figure around 142,000 miles.

I have the '04 OBS, too. I can see why it would be missed. It's my first AWD (never had 4X4 or FWD either) and that alone makes it a tremendous difference.
I like the OBS for its size, just right for carrying stuff around (and the occassional other people)-- except for the way the door armrest is too narrow and low and lack of a center one.
When I test drove the car I was impressed (or Imprez'd) by the little "boxer" engine, also the steering and braking. I traded in a GMC Sonoma with only RWD (but did have 4 wheel ABS) and the change from that kind of driving was a welcome thing.
Only car I really missed leaving was the old family wagon, a Chevrolet Kingswood, which I bought from Dad for just $300 in 1975. It had moved us across the country from Florida to Washington.
I think I'd miss this Subaru, too, if nothing fantastic takes its place someday.
P.S.
Liked seeing those CARS photos. Wondering now if I could do that to a picture of mine.
I have "some" emoticons that are 'dark' and "some" emoticons that are 'light' .. what's up with that?
Honest!
I can't believe the Forester is getting that old. Seems to me like they just came out!
Brenda: I know you're the fastest fingers in the world, but a whole day early? Are you warming up that keyboard? :P
Welcome to the Crew, Subi4obs. We chat Thursday nights and this thread is open for just about anything Subaru.

Welcome, subi4obs
Er, it's the new model year?

Hope to see people there next time.

I was changing oil in the morning and rechecking my ATF level, too. Been having trouble reading the level in that AT. Well, I added 1/2 Qt. Rechecked level, then I drained at least that much back out. I hate the thing. Can't be sure what's in there!
I'm thinking I need the Subaru dealership to flush it during its 30K mile maintanence and start all over again. You might not have seen I said elsewhere (at Problems messages) that I took 2 Qts out about a month ago after not being able to get a good reading on the dipstick until doing so, afterward adding back a fresh quart.
This is a Impreza Outback Sport, BTW.
The tire is history, no hope for repair. They are the original Potenzas with about 41k miles on them, not bad really.
Fortunately it was already very worn and we need a new set anyway. I put the full size spare that I'd purchase on there but she would have to drive around with no spare at all, so she's using my Forester right now.
I gotta say, mail order is definitely the way to go. Even the cheapie tires at Costco cost about $25 more per tire vs. what I can get on the web.
For my Forester (which I also decided to replace) the difference was even greater, about $35 per tire. Since we ordered 8 of them it ends up being $240 cheaper on-line, yikes! Oh, and that's shipped, and add another 5% savings for the state tax we don't have to pay.
I knew it would be cheaper, but just how much I found a bit shocking.
Got Falken Ziex 512s for both. I love the set on my Miata, great grip even in the rain, so I stuck with those. Fortunately they make the sizes I need for all 3 vehicles.
I'll share impressions once they're mounted.

Brenda - shhh, we could have kept that our little secret!

I was doing a tread wear check this morning along with air check and found the rear tires getting very near to the minimum wear marks. They were moved from the front a short time ago but seems like they aren't wearing as evenly as they should have done. Only at about 26500 miles on them, the original Potenza 205/55 kind that came with the Impreza OBS.
Anyway... that flat tire of your wife's reminded me of the strangest flat tire I ever had and it was with this car early this year. Front tire kicked up a large hex head (Allen) bolt from the middle of a road. I just didn't notice anything being there until hitting it. Apparently the rear driverside tire caught the bolt as it was being flung upward and speared into the tire.
There was quite a thunk! thunk! thunk! as I slowed to a stop, eventually figuring out it was so big that it was touching the wheel hub inside. So as I rolled it into position for the tire change it almost hopped over the bolt each turn of the tire. Before this happened the only things I had get stuck in a tire were like small screws and nails.
Here's a photo after I pulled it nearly all the way out and then held in my hand.
Heh... maybe Brenda IS responsible for the wider chat screen! All that fast typing slamming up against the right side finally had its effect!
Maybe we need a "Brend-a-meter" to measure typing "Gs" as they round the next line?
Bob
Now that is one BIG bolt, yowsah!
Hey, this was cool, a friend of my brother's is doing driver's Ed, and the car is a 2.2l Impreza with...
(drum roll)
314k miles!
Long live the EJ22!
-juice
I'll second that one!
Amazing. A kind of type warp, eh? Whole different thing from line wrap, I suppose.
All I ever manage to do when typing is to warp it (misspell, gramatical errors, typos).
Sorry, I just couldn't resist jumping into this.
Bren- I've tried to get to the chat the day before a few times also- must be looking forward to it!

I lived in Washington (state) 15 years but I've been in Alabama a long time now. Um... wow... 21 years, thinking about that. I only visit the families of my two sisters and brother there. I don't see many Subaru's here, maybe only twice a month I notice one. Not like the Seattle area at all. These Dixie people don't know what they're missing.
We got tons of Subies here- almost can't go a block without seeing one!
tom
Not uncommon to have three or four Subies in a row on the freeway - I'd say Outbacks are the most common, followed by Foresters and WRXs. Other parts of the country, I've noticed you'd be lucky to see one a week.
I liked it, but didn't love it, partially because I was driving an auto I guess. As long as the company is paying for fuel I'll continue to drive the FXT and try to ignore my conscience.

anyway, I have decided on my own to look at selling my Evo and if I can get a good offer for it I will get rid of it and get something cheaper. heat wave aside, I've been riding a lot more this year anyway so I won't miss it much. I'm considering a Fit or Yaris.
~Colin
Colin- Woo Hoo! good for you guys. A Fit with good shoes could be a cool car. We put the Britax in there and took Elie with us. It was a nice versatile package.
