Do we have anyone from HI in the Crew? West of Big Island was shaken pretty badly but fortunately no fatalities and most of the damage is superficial.

I've got cousin who lives in Hawaii. Not a close cousin, as I haven't seen her in 15 years...

I called a friend who works as a property manager for a condo complex (we stayed there in Jan 2006) - she says, their complex was only 6 mi from the epicenter! :surprise: She says earthquake was very loud and very scary, and they're still inspecting the units, but so far only minor damage.

I hope it's not a preamble to something bigger, like volcano eruption etc.

I'm having the same problem Steve.

I've also had the same thing - however TODAY it went straight where it should!

    who knows ....

Took me 5 attempts this afternoon, yet only one just now.

And if I leave the Subaru side and go to the Honda pages, I have to log in again. This is getting old....

It's Thursday, so that means Subaru Crew chat time! Stop in and chat about Subarus (or all the other stuff that comes up)

I'll also be picking your brains for dicsussion suggestions for the Subaru vehicle groups as we reorganize the forums. Your input and assistance is greatly appreciated!

The Subaru Crew Chat is on tonight. The chat room opens at 8:45PM ET Hope to see YOU there! Check out the schedule
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
won't be at the chat this week, but figured I'd chime in with a suggestion on the "new" multi forums group thing. With all of these micro-topics now, we'll have even more unnecessary announcement posts like "chat night" in 200 (or more or whatever) threads, that is if you have tracking turned on at the Subaru Crew level (which I belive is http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/WebX/.eea1a91/ ). Is it necessary to advertise the chat night on each and every forum topic?

    Hmmm...

What if the the Subaru Chat Graphic pulsated or something, or a verbal "You've got mail" type of voice announced this when you log on?

I agree, having ModBob post this same message repeated in so many threads is not the best way of doing things.

Those chat banners at the top tend to become invisible now and then since they're always there, hence the reminders.

Besides, we're up against a baseball playoff game 7 tonight! ;)

So much for a subway series. :P

I hear when Detroit wins it's always a great year for cars, otherwise I don't really care for one team over the other.

I was in CO the last two days to help out with the development of a video that highlights one of my products. Our ad agency had hired a professional film crew to do the job.

That night at dinner, I was talking with the producer for our video and it turns out that he produced the series of Subaru commercials from a few years ago. Apparently, he contributed to the "from the wheels that slip to the wheels that grip" series.

He had a few cool stories to tell, not so much about the cars themselves, but the people involved with the commercials. Apparently, he did an internal video for SOA where he got the president of FHI, impromptu, to drive one of their cars.

You never know who you meet on the road!

Neat, and I really liked those commercials, too. Better than what has come since then, IMO.

    Ken,

Sounds like fun. Did you do a little sneak appearance in the shoot, along the lines of what Stephen King, Mel Brooks & M. Night Shamelot (sp?) sometimes do in their films???

Did you do a little sneak appearance in the shoot,

Nobody did it as well as Alfred Hitchcock!

So...I've noticed this new Forester, LL Bean model, real nice, in our garage. I was really curious as to who owned it. There are quite a few Foresters here, even in my department, but I didn't know who owned this one.

So I'm driving home yesterday, and the vehicle behind me honks, and wouldn't you know it, it's that Forester I was curious about.

The funny part? It's MY BOSS! :D

Didn't even know until now. She's had it for about a year, 2006 model, and loves it so far. Yet another Subaru owner that could probably afford a luxury brand, but simply chooses not to because a Subaru is more than good enough.

And she told me she bought it the same day another collegue (one of the guys I always dress up for Halloween with) was at the same dealer (Stohlman Subaru in VA) buying an Outback Sport for his daughter.

    Small world, real small! :shades:

LOL. Actually I did. The director wanted some "fresh" faces in his shots and asked me to do a scene for him. I was acting as a customer service agent on the phone. :-)

According to Pat's almanac winter is almost here, this week I put the plastic in Rita's wee car. Next week if the weather co-operates for one day it will be the Titans turn.

    Cheers Pat. ;)

Pat's annual Irish Canadian tradition - the rolling out of the plastic! ;)

I'm trying to decide when to put on the snow tires that Bob gave me (and someone had given him, I forget who).

No signs of snow yet, and I'll be in Brazil from Dec 20 or so until early January. But I want to mount them to try them out, and so that I'm not stuck in the middle of a storm witout 'em.

    juice,

I usually put the snows on our cars around mid-December and remove them mid-late March. That has always seemed a good estimate here in NJ (notwithstanding the occasional early or late season storm). You might want to put yours on before you go away, so they're ready when you get back in January. Of course, now that you have them, you probably won't get any snow!

    I'm sure...

Yeah, I'll slap them on the weekend of the 9th, perhaps.

The last weekend is always hectic, packing and last minute purchases.

Well Steve, today the weather co-operated so the Titan got the plastic treatment. I know it's a bit of work but the carpet in Titan still looks brand new, plus, and the big plus to this exercise, no corroded and cruddy wiring under there.Rita's wee car is pretty nice too and I plan to keep it that way as long as I am able.

    Cheers Pat.

Well, mine might be going on sooner vs. later - Snoqualmie Pass was closed for many hours yesterday due to snow & weather... overnight lows here tonight in the teens... the writing is on the wall, El Nino or not!

    Cheers!

Wow, Paul. Beth and I went thru there (1994) to watch a filming of Northern Exposure on location in Roslyn (sp?). Great little town! I also went to pay hommage to Twin Peaks - the hotel where Agent Cooper stayed.

    Ya land lubbers! :P

I'm dressed as a pirate today, and a few friends took pics so I'll try to get a copy of them and post 'em up.

Please drive your Subies slowly and watch out for little trick-or-treaters. The roads will be full of pedestrians tonight.

    AAAARRRR! :shades:

didn't you do pirates a couple years ago?

Anyway, they never go out of fashion, and you did look very natural as a pirate :P

But my personal favorite juice haloween dress was French Movie Director a few years back. ;)
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Oui, I was Jean-AJ (others were Jean-Bob, Jean-Lalchand, and Jean-Jean). :D

    Still waiting for the pics.

I was a "software pirate" as a twist this year. We had a speaker with a PhD that talked about information security and I was there to sort of antagonize her and draw more attendance. Worked like a charm, it was standing room only.

Juice, it seems like you're a pirate every year. :D

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It was the 2nd time I went as a pirate, but the twist was the Software Pirate angle, I guess.

It's getting harder, everyone is so politically correct that I don't want to offend anyone.

I thought about going as a blind ref (get it?), seeing eye dog and all, but that might offend handicapped folks or their family.

We've done the Arab oil Shiek thing and that might offend clients from that region (and my wife would kill me).

I've done the college grad, the escaped convict, hockey player, Julius Ceasar, it's tough to be original every year. Got any ideas for next year? :)

You should dress up as a Subaru (we know you must already have Subaru pajamas, why not step up to the full costume).

using a big white trash bag and some talcum to go as a "used air bag" ?

Put the Blizzaks on around the end of October. We've already had a few inches of snow that's melted already. But gotta be ready for the first big snow (had a 22" fall last December).
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
What it is with me and wild animals?

First chipmunks (who have fortunately not chewed any new wiring I replaced on both Subies), now this.

I have a bunch of lady bugs in my bedroom, not sure where they are coming from. Not 2 or 3, mind you, I caught 20 the other day.

While beautiful and seemingly harmless, how can I control them? The windows are sealed and they still seem to get in. Are they attracted to something specific.

Hadji just looks at them and purrs. I mean he barks. ;)

  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
Actually juice ladybugs can give you a sting so be careful.

    Cheers Pat.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
My daughter had a book about them (for 2nd grade, mind you), and it said they defend themselves in 2 ways:

    * playing dead
    * a stinky yellow discharge

    I didn't know they could sting...you sure?

    -juice
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
control them? Don't. They're coming in for the winter, searching for places in your home to hibernate. That's the trade for controlling pests in your garden the rest of the year.
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
they don't sting, but can pinch. http://www.ipm.iastate.edu/ipm/iiin/ladybeetles.html

We see these on the outside of the house (along with some box elders) in September/October just around the first frost. Sometimes a few sneak into the house and then are attracted to light. Don't squish 'em on a surface, especially a wall in case of staining.

  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
You learn something new every day Brian. Someone told me that they sting and I just accepted it as fact as I had no reason to think otherwise. Thanks for the enlightenment.

    Cheers Pat
