Only a few years ago, I was teaching full time, tutoring students at least a couple evenings a week, taking college classes, teaching college classes, etc....
These days, I feel as if I come home from work and collapse on the sofa getting up only to find something quick and easy to eat, drag myself to bed, and do it all over again the next day. The weekends are filled with housecleaning, laundry, shopping, bill paying, and working on school stuff!
What happened????
I'll let you in on a closely guarded secret - I am too!! I'm tired, my back hurts, I've got constipation - wait - sorry - TMI....
doesn't mean I have to LIKE it!
Last night I was going to give you the full Roseanne Roseanddana treatment in response to your complaints: "Now, I'm depressed, I gained weight, my face broke out, I'm nauseous, I'm constipated, my feet swelled, my gums are bleedin', my sinuses are clogged, I got heartburn, I'm cranky and I have gas." but it's hard to do all that from an iphone!
I MISS GILDA RADNER .... has there ever been a funnier woman?
I think this proves that you aren't that old....
Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett... taking into account the difference in eras..

It's an interesting piece on how high stakes tests are scored .... you might be surprised .. (or maybe not)
Serge
at one school - full time special ed teacher on maternity leave (we have a sub who started the year with us, but still learning)
at another school - full time special ed teacher on medical leave (no regular sub yet and 32 students with IEPs
at the third school - I'm there 2 hours a week and the para handles things the rest of the time. She is good, but a new hire who has never been a para before ...
Anyone figure out yet how to be in three places at once?
My 10 year old Altima is at 212K and since my last 3 cars were all over 230K when I sold and/or traded, I figure I'm still warming up
Grace has work issues too... there are (were) only 17 people on the planet who can do her job (2 managers, too, but they don't get to play much). 3 of the 17 are gone for various reasons. It's a 24/7 facility with absolute minimum staffing requirements. 3 new-hires start training in October, but it's a 3+ month process, so the issue will be with us through the end of the year. OT is nice, but time off is valuable, too.
So congrats, Serge, on your Milestone, and L'shana Tovah to you as well.
The reference to "speedo" will probably land you in a trademark infringement case; the originally Australian brand name for a line of swimming costumes has been appropriated for a generic name for style of costume, unfortunately, often "with connotations". The trademark owners are not happy and have launched an action against one offender.
Cheers
Graham
Brenda, no worries, I don't own a Speedo, I know better (;-)
So we have to call non Speedo brand swim gear banana hammocks??
It's funny to see the English when they come here to South Florida in the winter.
The same thing happens in Maine during the summmer except the Quebecois come to visit.
Hey, the Brazilians laugh when pale American tourists show up with "shorts" that reach below the knees. They wonder how you're going to get any sun all covered up like that.
Oh I'm sure they do. But don't forget most of we Americans have no excuse for wearing little bathing suits - it's not a good look.
That's the only place you should see them in the US... competitive swimming. We don't need bananahammocks on the beach or in public pools! :P
The speedo thing has just turned peculiar in Australia. The leader of the opposition party in the federal government is frequently photographed in speedos, to the embarrassment of his wife and daughters (probably his dog too). It is the image which is used by cartoonists to capture his spirit. However, he is also a volunteer surf life saver, so does have an excuse!
An unfortunate mis-tweet by the country's leading civil rights lawyer about his choice of swimwear has blown into a moderate sized public fracas in the past 24 hours for reasons which are too hard to explain to non-Australians.
I have always worn speedos, but have in recent years, kept them for my own pool or for swimming laps when at a hotel when travelling; not for public consumption. My teenage daughter is particularly scathing; I offered the option of me swimming naked, given that it was my own very private pool. I do feel that one of the great joys of your kids becoming teenagers is being able to exact revenge for all of the embarrassment that they have caused you over the years!
The idea of Quebecois coming South to wear revealing swimsuits on Maine beaches is appealing. We have golden beaches and lots of sunshine here, but Australians are generally a bit careful of skin cancer. We play "Spot the Poms" on the beach because they tan furiously, quickly taking on the appearance of beetroots or look like old leather handbags through repeated tanning.
Brazilian girls in swimsuits; that is a nice vision!
Cheers
Graham
When mine were teenagers, I'd tell them, " Half a parent's job is telling you no, and the other half is embarrassing you - and when I can do both at the same time, I've really ARRIVED!"
But we are. My wife swears I can take almost anything she says and get a lecherous thought from it.
No it's not!!
Hang in there.
it's gotta get better ... cause I'm not gonna make it if it doesn't ... no details, of course, but let's just say that a majestic alignment of unlikely coincidences has managed to just about double my workload .....
There really is one more reason, and I think I've also posted about that before, too ... I love to watch the jets fly over at kickoff - and they fly low and directly over my house on the way to the stadium...
This week ND is playing Air Force .... we had a "special" treat ...
a STEALTH flew right over the house ... we heard it and ran out and it was making a high pass and did a circle back around and then a few minutes later came streaking in low right over the house ... for me .... very exciting ...
Saturday I gave Silvus his pre winter wax job and interior detail.
Sunday I relocated the down spout from one end of the house to the other, it came down right at the door and in winter we had a large pool of ice on the ground it was highly dangerous. By moving it to the other side I can now discharge it on the grass and away from the foundation.
However I have reluctantly decided that at 69 years old, and with a replacement knee and a hip that needs to be replaced, that I should drop working two stories up off of a ladder from my repertoire.
Today Holiday Monday I did my annual job of taking out the seats and covering the car floor with plastic, I decided to get this job done while the weather was nice, I usually get my butt frozen off when I am doing the plastic.
Cheers Pat.
I hope the weather holds like this through another weekend! I plan to process my last batch of rabbits for the season next weekend, and I much prefer not to do that when it is too far below freezing!
Hope you had a good Thanksgiving. Spent most of the day on the Interstate, but at least I got to drive my sister's Forester a lot.
Bren, got to see my niece for about 10 minutes tonight. She grabbed a BBQ on the run at my brother's house, having come from a faculty meeting at the elementary school where she teaches. Had to rush home to prep her kids for quizzes tomorrow, coaches Thursday, and has to prep for 5 different classes/subjects/age groups every day. Meanwhile hubby is in on the road all week.
She's not a real happy camper either (but thank goodness for grandparents).
The phrase that keeps running through my mind is ... "boots on the ground" ....
there's only so much this 'old woman' can do and I'm stretched so thin you can see through me!
Sunday was our Marching Band Invitational, where we hosted one of the State competitions. I worked food at the opening and closing, but got to sit in the stands and enjoy most of the musical performances. Incredible to actually be out in shorts & tee shirt, and to get a sunburn in October!
Yesterday I took a half day vacation, and took the family to a nearby farm for apple & pumpkin picking. hayrides, outdoor food & a band. Another gift before winter closes in.
As darkness fell it was house maint & repairs, but in the warmth I can handle that!
Bren - sorry to hear that the job has gotten so sucky. No fun....
I'm sure Silvus looks great. This morning my car is the opposite of that, since we have no garage and 50-100 year-old trees in the neighborhood shedding leaves. Decaying leaves make a big mess on a white car...
I think you've inspired me to get out over lunch today and get it washed.
My Miata was white, sure does! I could read fortunes from the tea leaves on the hood.
Unfortunately the fortune usually read "You are going to wash your car in the near future!"
