    He works for the World Bank in DC—another likely target, which is not too far from the State Department, where reportedly a car bomb exploded.

    ok, now they're saying that the state department car bomb was an erroneous report.

    but now they are reporting that the FAA headquarters has been attacked. and Camp David too? that's almost unbelievable, although if they though the President was there...

    Both trade center bldgs gone.
    Pentagon hit.
    7x7 down in Penn.
    Car bomb at state dept.
    2 planes over Virginia not identifying themselves.
    AA just said they have lost another flight - not the one that hit the trade center.

    Please pray. Those nearby these sites - please give blood.

    All government office buildings and monuments in Washington, DC have been evacuated. The Metro (tube/subway) is operating nominally but bypassing the Pentagon.

    From her office 8 miles away, my wife can see smoke from the Pentagon fire. Six stories of a corner were destroyed in the crash. The fire is not under control.

    to all and all of you in/or around the NYC and D.C. areas. We are, like the rest of the nation, all glued to our televisions and radios in Seattle. I am @ home instead of going into work.

    Here are the flights that have been hijacked as best as I can get info:

    American Airlines, flt #11, Boston-LA, this is one that crashed into one of the World Trade Ctr towers.

    United Airlines, flt#175, Dulles-LA
    American Airlines, flt#77, Dulles-LA
    United Airlines, flt#93, Newark - SFR, tentatively labeled as the one that hit Camp David.

    Seattle is currently banning any car traffic on its ferry system per the recommendation of the Coast Guard. Sea-Tac is locked down. The Canadian airport in Vancouver BC is locked down, the border is on heightened alert. The Bank of America Tower (Columbia Ctr, 77 stories) has been evacuated. The Space Needle and the Fed bldg have been evacuated. All disabled vehicles on the freeway are been inspected by State Patrol. Ft Lewis is on heightened alert. Basically, our State's Emergency Plan is in effect.

    Again, all my prayers are with those caught in all this mayhem.

    are with everyone caught in this horrible mess today. I came to the site to check on everyone. We closed our offices. I'm going out to give blood now and I hope that all of the "Crew" does the same. It's going to be needed. I'll keep checking for Juice, Mike. Greg and Dennis, glad you are okay.

    Everyone of us will remember where we were today. My day started with my mother calling me to say that my brother is supposed to working in the Trade Center this....I cannot describe the thoughts that immediately went through my mind when I heard that. after a couple of hours of trying to reach his office, also in downtown Manhattan, I called my sister-in-law's school in NJ where she works; I was then able to find out that he was in Scranton PA...what a relief it was. My nephew is a 2nd year medical Student at NYU Medical Center on East 33rd St. and I am sure he is extremely busy. New York will never be the same..I worked at the Trade Center many years ago; we were on the 84th floor, and I was always in awe at the view of my hometown from that height; there were days that we were above the clouds...that now will be a remembrance never to be repeated.
    Our thoughts go out to all who have lost a loved one today.

    The magnitude of the day's events are overwhelming, of course. Here's what we all can do to help us feel a little less helpless:

    1) Pray. Not only for the innocent victims, but for those involved in the rescue efforts. Lots of cops & firefighters are MIA.

    2) Give blood, wherever you are. Soon as the air traffic system gets back in gear, they'll be shipping it.

    3) Open your wallets to whatever relief effort is underway in your community.

    4) Try to maintain some degree of normalcy in your daily lives, if for no other reason than for the sake of your kids.

    5) Share your thoughts with others. Don't keep 'em stashed inside - they'll do less harm if you allow them out.

    Paul - good advice. Just stood 3+ hours in line to give blood. Many people are searching out places to give blood.

    My brother in-law is in the building next to the WTC. He was on the phone with my father in-law when he saw the second plane hit the second tower. He dropped everything a ran out. We lost contact at that point but found out he was OK a couple of hours later. I'm still shaking, feeling helpless and Mad. My other brother in-law is a NYC firefighter on the "high rise rescue team". He was not on duty this morning, but is there now. Who knows how many of his fellow comrades were caught in this.

    Please pray for everyone involved.

    Just shocking and unbelievable. Even though I'm on the West Coast, I'm originally from NYC so the WTC going down hit very close to home to me. When I turned on the news this morning, I could not believe what I was seeing. My hands were shaking for a good hour.

    My dad actually was on the subway underneath the WTC shortly after the first plane hit. There was smoke in the tunnels, but no one knew what it was. He had to walk from downtown Manhattan to Brooklyn to get home.

    My cousin lives in Manhattan and he reports that the streets are "eerily quiet". Everyone is holed up in their apartments, waiting.

    Lots of businesses here have closed. My wife works in the financial district in San Francisco and she got sent home.

    Let's pray for the victims of this horrid event.

    It's hard to convey the emotion one feels. At this distance, the shock is intense but for all of you in the USA, it must be numbingly painful.

    I do worry about Paisan and hope he is okay. But for all of you, the pain you are suffering as a Nation is shared around the world.

    The practical words of Paul are appropriate. Do look to your souls and those around you. Prayers are in order, no matter your beliefs.

    I visited the i-club a few minutes ago, where a member reports having talked to Paisan at his office late afternoon and he was okay. No details beyond that.

    I was about 3 blocks away. I walked up to Grand Central station about 4-5miles, and then took a train to NJ, where I wound up getting picked up my dad, but then we couldn't get back into NYC via the bridges to Staten Island, so I had to walk over the bridge to Staten Island, and my dad is in NJ with my truck at his buddy's. Luckily my uncle works one floor above me, and we stuck together with his boss who is a big shot, and we were able to go to a posh club near grand central station for the afternoon. More details later, it was a 12+hr commute home for me.

    Glad to hear you're OK. What an incredible set of mad tragedies. Even here in Vancouver we are mostly in a state of shock. I'm very much afraid the world will be forever changed for the worse as a result of today. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

    I made it home in about 5 hours. Luckily, my boss takes the ferry into NYC so we crossed over with 6 others and got her car.
    They were using everything to transport people. I took a Circle Line that normally takes people on sight-seeing cruises. My wife's cousin took a tug boat.
    In line there were few people that were in the WTC when it happened. One guy didn't even know that the towers had collapsed and he was on the 80th floor of WTC #1. He just got out fast.

    paisan, glad you're ok. We need to hear from juice next.

    I'm heading out soon to donate blood.

    Mike - Glad to hear you did ok. It all seems surreal. I use to work at 21 West Street(by the Down Town Athletic Club)which, if I understand correctly, isn't there anymore either. Having lived on S.I., I'm sure the trip home wasn't easy.

    The scope of this act isn't fully comprehended yet. A lot of people died yesterday. Keep their families in your prayers.

    On a lighter note, I'm instructing my stock broker to sell all of my Bin Laden Inc. .. I don't think it will be worth much in the near future.

    Yup, here in Indiana as many other places urban legend tells us that there won't be any more oil coming into the USA from the arab countries and we have all bought into the fantasy and are accepting the 50 cent increase in price over night. Fortunately are gas station owner sharks are not quite as greedy here. $2.00 a gallon would keep my WRX running at the present time. How are gas prices for my other Subie friends?

    The Gov here in TX made that illegal (also hotels and rental car price gouging). So far its business as usual. Things will really start to happen when the bombs start falling.

    I find it hard to believe that all commercial airlines aren't required to have on-board cameras with mikes going at all times, transmitting both visual and vocal recordings back to airports in real-time. I'm talking about cameras and live mikes in both the cockpit and in the cabin.

    Having units such as I describe you would be able to:

    • See and hear what's going on at all times during the course of a flight.

    • Identify persons, and their seats, as to who's causing a problem.

    • Put into action some sort of rescue plan immmediately based upon what is being seen and heard.

    Many state troopers now have cameras in their cars to record road stops. The airlines should do the same.

    Having cameras may (or may not) change the outcome of events, but it should greatly improve the chances of solving these crimes, as well as shorten the time needed to do so. Just think about all the time and effort that is wasted in locating those "black boxes." Having on-board cameras/mikes—transmitting in real-time—"could" elemininate those things all together.

    I think any and all "privacy issues" should be suspended when traveling via air in the future. It just boggles my mind that this hasn't been instituted already. Every time you go into a bank or a 7-11 you're on camera. It should be no different in an airplane. The potential ramifications are just too great not to have such a system in place.

    And I also believe any hijacking should be shot down on site. The plane was more than 150 miles off course. As soon as it started heading south, they should have scrambled some jets from air-force base just south of porkipsee. They could have seen who was driving the plane, and then shot it down.

    I just tried to call Juice at his office. As you might understand, the phone lines in the D.C. area are busy. Given where his office is, I wouldn't think he had any problems (commuting excluded) from yesterdays insanity.

    I am still in a state of shock, my prayers and thoughts are with the the victims and survivors of this horrendous tragedy.
    I hope Juice is okay and may the perpertrators be quickly found and dealt with.

    On a sadder note, we cannot locate by boss' husband nor my brother in-laws neighbor. They were on the 90+ floors. My other bother in-law firefighter pulled two people from the wreckage this morning. Please pray.

    I'm OK, as is my family. Luckily, my dad was in Belize and not at work in DC (3 blocks from White House). The rest were in the burbs.

    I hope our NYPD friend is well. I know he has not posted in a while, but my thoughts have been with him - hope he's OK. God bless every hero that was there to rescue the victims.

    We are 5 blocks from the White House, as 21 and Penn. Soon as I heard the Pentagon was hit, I bolted.

    Still, it was gridlock getting out of DC. I only got home around 2pm! I could not get a cell signal, so the wife was freaked out. The payphones as the gas station had lines with 10 people or more, it was unbelievable. Imagine NYC!

    I have not been able to dial in because we have 64 hosts for 1400 desperate staff. To be honest, I did not try because I did not want to tie up a host and keep somebody with an urgent need from getting connected.

    Today we had liberal leave and there was just NO WAY I would have gone to DC no matter what. Friends of mine that live in DC are seeing men in uniform at every corner. It's scary.

    Thanks to all for the concern. Let's hug our kids and tell them everything will be OK.

    I agree with my paisano - life must go on, I say we make a point of showing up in Pine Barrens to be with our friends and continue our way of life.

    FYI - for anyone that was thinking about the Outback Rendezvous this weekend in Reston, VA, it has been postponed because of the tragedy. No re-schedule date.

    There appear to be a bunch of little miracles happening with the rescue efforts. Let's keep the faith!
