Been about 10 days since I fixed the axle boot, got the new battery & tire, and happy I did it all. Drives beautifully now and not spending upwards of $25K was the right thing to do at this juncture. Think I would've traded it if there was something out there now that I just had to have. But since there is nothing yet, just made sense to fix her and keep her for another year or so. Got a feeling the new GTI or Taos will be my choices for my next vehicle and hoping deep down that the Taos wins out. My spinal issues aren't getting any better and I like sliding in and out instead of falling into and pulling myself out.

Nice positive review on the Taos. Looks like a good size to me. Though from what they compare it to, I think it probably looks bigger than it actually is.
heresy. I would keep it Volvo. a later 4 banger, probably turbo, 5 speed, and upgraded steering, suspension and brakes. Something like that. Look stock, sleeper underneath.
oh, no clue what fits. I have only seen later versions (usually 700s) with Ford 302 swaps. Not sure if 200 series works, but have never seen one in an amazon.

With BaT continuing to be insane, a high dollar fintail (which for one would be like 30K+) has to come around any day now.
A 56 Volvo would actually be a 444, almost identical to a 544, but much less common on this side of the pond. Easiest detail - 444 has a split windshield, 544 is one piece.

Oh, thanks. It did have split windshield. I recall it was glossy black exterior with a bright red, plush interior. It felt like a vault inside when you closed the door, and it had a perfect "click" sound as it latched.

That Taos short video was a real tease but, do like it in white! Put an ivory interior in it and I'm sold. Seriously, if it can fit on my side of the garage, that could possibly be my next ride. Like the proportions and also that it sits up a few inches. If it has as much ground clearance as my 2014 Hyundai Tucson was, Ingress/egress will not be an issue. Keep the length at around 172", and it'll definitely fit...hopefully the width will be just like my current Golf. MPG's won't really be an issue as my miles/year have gone down about 2/3 of what they once were and if I even do 5K this year, I'll be lucky. Hopefully the one I'd get won't be much over $27K as figure I'll still get something for my Golf on trade-in plus the sales tax savings. All in all, I really do like the new Taos and has moved to the top of my short list! Still want to check out the Mazda CX-30 to see how it compares. I know the top of the line Mazda has a Bose audio system and betting the Taos will go with the Beats audio system like they have in their top level vehicles. I will not compromise on that one item though a sun/moon roof would be another option I'd like but if not included, won't be a deal breaker. Refuse to do without the top audio system in my next ride. So, fixing the Golf was the best option for me at this juncture, and have no remorse whatsoever! Think deep down, I knew I was going to fix the axle boot regardless, as nothing in the current marketplace excited me to the point of making a switch. Just went online and ordered a front windshield protector from WeatherTech as an early birthday gift for myself. My current one is torn and ready to be replaced, so this time, wanted one that would fit the windshield perfectly. The current one keeps falling off on the passenger side and is getting annoying especially with the kind of heat we have here in South Florida. Looked on Amazon.com where I got the last one but either they were pricey or not sure how well they'd fit. Decided to just treat myself this time! Not sure how long it'll take to get here but went with the regular ground shipping as I can wait the time it takes. Anyways, our weather should be getting better very soon as the heat usually breaks a bit in the end of December, so we'll just have to wait and see. I'm so ready for some cooler temps and especially for the 2020 hurricane season to be over with!! Decided to not go cheap this time and get one that'll fit pretty well. Now, just need to do a winter detail as it's been awhile. And then, think we're done for the time being and all I want to do is just enjoy the ride!!!

Service rep finally called yesterday about the van. No word from corporate. He called and spoke with someone else who is escalating to a manager because this should have been done by now. Rep said he at least has all the parts on hand.

odd story. Took out a loan to buy it, put on 200 miles and sell it a month later? And zero service history, so need to budget a fair amount of $ to do all the expected items at that age/miles. So I wonder if someone bought it (likely overpaying) and found out the original owner did not bother with all the expensive stuff, and was selling it because it was about to become the money pit?
Great car though for someone that knows these and can handle all the work themselves, since the body/interior seem good (and being a cali car, likely no rust).
I imagine this one will go high. But if I ran into that same car local, and could have the BMW specialist 2 miles from my house PPI it, it would be the perfect 2nd car for me.

I test drove one when they first came out. Quite the fun car, but definitely a different driving experience. Too bad they were such maintenance nightmares. A 15 YO one is scary.

I love these old Scouts, but I really don't like the look of this drivetrain conversion; the proportions are all wrong on it.
