Did I post about our front door? Wound up going with total custom iron doors, including the arch window at the top of the foyer. Order went in back in Sept and might be here late Jan or sometime in Feb. Here are the computer design and mockup (I brightened the pic all the way to try to see the bottom scrollwork). Expensive, but not nearly as bad as you'd think considering how much just a lousy fiberglass replacement with the sidelights and transom costs. Height to top of door is 9.5 feet and 15' to the top of the window.
Iām sure your servants are proud to announce visiting royalty who enter though that portal.š

It will look like this one, but the side glass will be 3/4 length too (same as the door glass) and the wood pieces (the frame) will be stained the same walnut color instead of painted.

Head, the house came with it. I'm not paying the price to have it reframed! Besides, if someone wants in that bad, they will come in one way or another. could just break the glass in the door instead of the side piece.
had an expensive day. We have needed a new front door package for a while now, and started looking a month or 2 back. Almost had heart failure after finding out what they go for. So a few trips back and forth to a couple different stores, speccing out different options. And of course, once we finally decided on something, the wife would see a different style and start over. But yesterday looked at them all and settled on the design.
so back to the store today, and looking again at the brands. decided on the cheaper of two options until she learned that the caning was the wrong color metal. So switched to the higher priced option. But at least, finally ordered so can be done with this particular ordeal.
Put a dent in my replacement car fund though!
something else learned for if I build or redo a house. Never, ever, ever get a front door with sidelights. They cost more than a door, by quite a bit.
When we built our house in SC we had sidelights. In addition to the upsizing cost for that set up the cost of those skinny blinds for those sidelights floored me when we ordered them after we moved in.
Fast forward to about 8 years ago to the house we live in now. That door is a double door and they aināt cheap either but we picked out a unique glass that added to the cost too but we like it. Mrs. j called me at work and said it wasnāt even installed for an hour and she got compliments on it from two neighbors and a woman passing by while taking a walk.

oh, I am sure it is going to look vastly better than the original builder grade that is still on after 27 years. might even seal completely! The glass in the sidelites has blown out too (the double pane leaked so moisture gets in).
Since we decided to bit the bullet, out on our walks we would look at what other people have done (a lot in the neighborhood have already upgraded, and we even drove through another one by the same builder) to get ideas. The houses that put nice ones on just look so much better.
Iām so aggravated. Had 5/6 on a 6-game parlay. Came down to what I thought was a given but then the Rams blew it against the winless Jets. How the heck does that happen?!

The same way the Steelers have played down to their opponents for at least 7 or 8 years and it happened again this year when they lost to the used to be Redskins two weeks ago. Itās a head scratcher alright but weāre used to it around here. The Steelers play the Bungals tomorrow night, that otta be interesting too.

Thanks for the explanation....I guess we have sidelights too but they are clear see-through. I prefer having them, when the U.P.S. Guy delivers stuff from Amazon I can see who it is. If it is a guy with a clipboard I can go where he can't see me. Don't sidelights make it easy for burglars, break the glass, reach around, turn the lock inside?

In theory. Though the door itself has glass too, so just as easy to break that. I figure if someone is willing to stand on my front stoop, in clear view of the neighbors and anyone on the street, and do that they are just as likely to go around back and smash a window instead. The glass is pretty sturdy though (double paned insulated with the metal design work inside).
If you are really worried about it, just put a key lock on the interior deadbolt too. Or move to a safer neighborhood!

āI left all the lights on in the apartment, the radio on, and a note on the front door. It said, Iām inside. I get home, I still got robbed. The guy left his own note. It said, I looked all over for you.ā - Rodney Dangerfield
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing.
My sidelight is a piece of double Lexan built into the frame of the house separate from the door. Similar to the material used on greenhouse roofs. I suppose it would be possible to break it but I think it would be easier to break down the door.

I thought in St. Louis one would just trot out onto the lawn of their Marie Antoinette-esque gilded age pile (no doubt purchased by hard work, bootstrapping, building it yourself, etc), mindlessly pointing automatic weapons in a way that virtually screams they've had no actual training or experience with any kind of weapon.
Speaking of that, I've thought about picking up a Walther Q4 Steel Frame - I think firearms ownership here is a requirement for permanent residency, and that one appears to be the handgun equivalent of a nice MB.
And doors, my new place has a heavy (steel?) metal front door (no sidelights, but I notice transom windows seem to be a thing around here), and the interior doors are thick solid wood affairs, all of which lock. It's unusual being in a modern building that seems overbuilt, compared most of the housing built in the past 50 years that I've experienced.
I don't know how many of you subscribe to NETFLIX, but I just had a go-round with Netflix corporate offices regarding their cancellation of the series "OZARK" starring Jason Bateman. I also don't know how many of you who do subscribe to Netflix find the series "OZARK" a terrific series. They are releasing season 4 in a month or two, but they have cancelled any further production of the series.
It's all about this "accountant" who gets involved in some serious money-laundering with a Mexican drug cartel. He ends up getting his wife and even his kids involved in stashing millions and millions of dollars in cash in caskets, cemeteries, walls of houses, to mention just a few of the hiding places. It gets political as well with local and state officials. I lost count as to how many murders have occurred during the first 3 seasons, but for some strange reason, he and his family have survived.
I tried to get Netflix to understand that this "Ozark" is the best, if not one of the best, series on Netflix, but they said they cancel series for many reasons and cannot discuss with me as to why this series was cancelled.
So, I guess another great series bites the dust on Netflix. Too bad. :@
Ozark is a great show and Iāll be sad to see it go as well. As far as the critics go season 3 was higher rated than 1 or 2. I canāt agree with that, but surprised they cancelled a show that was gaining steam. Usually shows tend to trend downward.
One of the only series Iāve watched that truly got better and better toward the end was Breaking Bad.
Homeland had a bit of dip in the middle of the series but finished nearly as strong as season 1.
I can't tolerate series that have lots of mayhem, violence, torture or killings. It seems most do these days.
In the vein of a rare series that I actually enjoyed, I offer up The Morning Show on Apple TV. The first 2 episodes were slow to get things going, but the remaining 8 were really well done. This seems to be a big-budget series and the production values are quite high. The birthday party scene in Episode 8 with Martin Short and the showgirls is highly recommended. Season 2 is in production.

Well, I certainly wonāt recommend any of the three I just talked about! They are all pretty brutal.
Not much violence in any of these shows that I enjoy.
My best shows are Ask This Old House and The Golden Girls. I keep hoping for a remake of The Golden Girls but that ain't gonna happen with the same cast and a new cast isn't going to have the dramatic timing ability those actresses have (had).
I still come across episodes of TGG that I hadn't seen during the TVLand Sunday marathons.
There are excellent Golden Girls compilations on YouTube. That show aged very well. My recently deceased grandmother seemed like an exact duplicate of Dorothy's dry snarky humor (and my grandma was also a Dorothy).
I suspect Married With Children will always crack me up.

A friend of mine just emailed me a video from āAll In The Familyā when Archie Bunker is in the hospital and is undergoing pre-op preparations. The African American ānurseā (Archie learns quickly that she is a doctor) is about to āshaveā his privates...
I remember that episode, but watching it again was hysterically funny.

I can take anything under condition that it clearly supports the story line and isn't done for its own sake, just to make you watch. I'm always ambivalent about Tarantino's movies at first viewing, as their stories, dialog and cinematography are just outstanding, but the violence always feels gratuitous and gore at first. Somehow I get over that with time. I guess these other aspects just win me over. I guess that's his magic - make something totally outrageous, so you want to leave the room, but you can't, the story is just too interesting.
Bengals beat Steelers. Free chili at Gold Star chili with the Who Dey Way special--buy one and get one free. They likely thought they wouldn't have to pay out on that promise.
I've always had mixed feelings about Tarantino for that reason. Amazing plot/storylines, but most of the gore and violence seems needless and just for show - shock value, like a little kid swearing just to get looks.

I watched the entire game last night because I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing. The Steelers looked awful and the Bengals played hard. Any time the Steelers lose I enjoy it.
So, 3 guys driving 3 unreliable cars on various challenges. Huh, what a novel idea.
I don't know the other 2 guys, but is the tall one who seems to be the defacto plugger for their benefactor imitating Hoovie? Or is that just me? Same inflections and mannerisms.

Iāve already warned you about gloating. But, being the realist that I am, youāll probably be gloating twice more during the 2 remaining regular season games and the first playoff game too. I canāt see them winning anymore this year with Big Benās dead arm that nobody around here wants to admit he has.
Looks like the end of an era. It was almost good while it lasted. Interesting times ahead, thatās for sure.

Like the "bad snap" fumble recovered by the Bengals. Big Ben looked like he was walking around talking to himself after that.
