I don't think anyone recommends using bourbon in the cooling system, but Fireball Bourbon has some ingredients found in anti-freeze:

That's why I said a lot of things on the internet are self feeding. All you need is to get someone on the internet to say something then have a few people reference it then you can claim it to be a fact citing everyone that referenced the original post as sources. So you can say here are several sources supporting my claim.

I haven't really heard of many failures, but there should be a way to turn it off without having to do it every time you want to use your car. *Supposedly* the starter and it's components are more heavy duty - who knows.

It's possible that the manufacturers are simply doing it to increase MPG figures.

The latest non-safety recall from Subaru puts an icon on the main touch screen to be able to turn it off by pushing only that button without having to scroll thru 3 or 4 menus.

The car makers are definitely doing it to squeeze a few more tenths of a mile out of each gallon. Are they building the starting systems better to cope? Who knows? Something tells me they build them just tough enough to run out the warranty.

When I was in the booze business, we sold a lot of Fireball in the colder months to snowmobilers, cross-country skiers, ice fishers, hunters, and other hardy outdoorsy types. Even did well with it in the spring and fall to early-morning golf nuts.

Unfortunately, up here you can’t escape the salt unless you stay in the garage. Toll or free they’ll get you either way. In any event I hardly ever use the toll roads unless I have a company EZ pass.

My salt obsession got to me yesterday and since it was just above freezing I hooked up the hose and flushed out the wheel wells on the Kia. Surprised how much grit and salt builds up in there. This Fall I sprayed oil into the door bottoms and rockers as a rust preventative too.

My Cadillac has an on/off switch, but it only applies to the current engine start, just like how Mike described the M-B system. You would need to deactivate stop/start every time you start the engine. I think (but do not know) that is mandated if manufacturers want to include the effect of stop/start systems in their EPA fuel economy (and maybe emissions?) numbers.

I don’t have to activate or deactivate the start/stop function once it’s activated. When I manually start the engine the next day, it defaults to “activated”. Thus, it’s always “on” unless I manually deactivate it by pressing the deactivate button on the console.

I want a stop/start that's deactivated even after the next engine start.

With my Malibu that stop/start is really unobtrustive, but so often it stops when I am at a four-way stop and only have to wait a second and then take foot off the brake. Short of spending $175 for a plug in defeat computer for the ALDC I learned that having the AC/heat set for widely differing temps on passenger side from the driver temp keeps the system from stopping the engine due to the AC/heat not being close enough to satisfying the automatic system.

I spent hours reading the computer program factors that allow the engine to stop.

I want a real switch. As I shop some cars, that'll be my 3rd question of so about the car.

My sister in law's Cadillac doesn't allow the stop/start to be deactivated either.
I guess GM is too cheap to install a switch.

So Start/Stop makes you use more gas since the a/c is set on high to keep the engine running.

That, since he was so fragile, there must be someone invincible? My family believes I have powers, as did my father, that things just work when I touch them that were broken only moments before when someone else tried to use it. So GG may be balancing me out.

Malibus I’ve driven with that feature are fairly unobtrusive. Chrysler has the most noticeable.

some cars are better than others. The RDX is a little more abrupt than some I have driven. The Jetta is not too bad. It does annoy me a bit though, and I don't like the extra wear an tear. I will use it at longer stops, but in stop and go type driving when it is constantly on and off, nope. Plus I think it should wait a little longer to shut down, sometimes it cuts out at a stop sign where it is very brief stop.

worst I ever drove was the diesel LR discovery sport I rented in Ireland. That was like firing up a bull dozer. Figured out how to turn that off real quick.

I am a bourbon drinker. But, I never understood the popularity of whiskey like Fireball or other drinks like Jaegermeister (sp?).

Don't get me wrong. I never said I liked it. It just doesn't bother me.

I don’t have that feature on any of my vehicles so maybe I’m not used to it but stop-start to me is annoying because it feels like someone else is making decisions or is in control of my car. It might be required for the modern driver who has no situational awareness but I’m cheap enough that I turn off my engine in the drive-thrus. In stop and go traffic I don’t see the point.

Regardless of whether or not a vehicle has an on/off switch, stop/start can take some getting used to. I found it annoying when I first got the ATS because it was the first time I encountered such a system. But these days I barely notice it. It seems quite unobtrusive. Maybe they need some break-in time, who knows.

All cars for the 1974 model year had ignition interlocks with the seatbelt. No belt, no start. There was an override button under the hood which was impractical to use. People instead just unplugged the sensor under the seat

They discontinued it for 1975.

So, Stinger servicing dealer called yesterday and said they wanted their loaner car back as they had hit a stalemate between Kia Corporate and the selling dealer, Wyler Kia, as to covering the repairs.

They did the recall for engine fires (replaced something called an HECU Junction Box).

They did the repair on the shifter (replaced entire e-shifter). They thought it was a warranty fix, but Kia balked. They ate the repair (which sounds like it was expensive).

But, they drew the line at replacing the heated steering wheel relay/contacts/button as they didn’t believe they would be reimbursed by Kia (or me, for that matter). They did disconnect it so it would not drain my battery.

I forgot how good the car drives. After being in a Telluride and an Optima, it’s clear the Stinger is cut from a different and better place that hides within Kia.

I suppose the battle will rage with Wyler Kia and Kia Corporate. Someone’s paying for the repair, and it ain’t me.

It was only added to get out better mileage to meet government guidelines. Your Kia might get good enough mileage without it. Remember, cars that have the feature generally have HD starters to take the extra load, shutting off your engine may put extra wear on the starter.

I have a coworker who chews up his computers like GG his cars. He's had several blue screens over last couple of years, two ending in machine replacement. I joke that he types too hard or too fast making his computer sweat and crack

Haven’t we said you can’t believe everything you read on the internet? Didn’t someone say a while back that Caddy built some cars without a wiring harness or two after release of one of their models? Any outfit that could do that could surely have a typo in their manual.

I don’t know about any Cadillacs with that issue, but apparently some Giulias arrived at dealers missing accessory harnesses.

I love the car. I want it fixed.

The fix is to replace the contacts and the button that activates the heated steering wheel. Servicing dealer said it would probably be a couple hundred in parts and a couple of hours labor.

For what I paid for it, the handling, the speed, the amount of equipment, the style of the car, really doesn’t have much in the way of competition.

As we all suspected, it’s the service after sale that really lets these cars down. Plus, either Kia corporate won’t put any effort into holding the feet of their franchise owners to the fire to do what’s right. Or, the franchise owners really don’t care what Kia Corporate thinks.

I don’t want to trade it. I bought it right, but these things depreciate like crazy. I wouldn’t stick a dealer or an individual with a car that I know has issues. If I ever do trade it, and it has problems, I’d disclose them.

That, since he was so fragile, there must be someone invincible? I don't think it's that, it's more likely that Kia is a military acronym for Killed In Action. Is that a car you really want?

So what now, GG? They certainly aren't going to do anything as long as you have the car in your possession. Have you sent corporate the evidence of dealer negligence (the record of spillage)?

Jeepers, It's just a switch. Switches fail all the time. I cannot believe it is integral to the entire console and cannot be replaced on its own.

Maybe get a can of Deoxit and give it a good soaking.

Don't I recall @abacomike getting delivery of a vehicle that didn't have the options on it the way it was declared, or expected, or something. How was that fixed?

It was a sedan (which was a brand new vehicle for that year) and was special ordered and came in to the dealership without "standard" features for that model. I believe it was the blind spot warning monitors and lane keeping monitors which were not standard in prior years but were standard on that newly refreshed model. I realized they were missing after I left the dealership and was on the highway. I returned to the dealership immediately! Right there on the car's manufacturer's sticker those two items were listed in the standard equipment side of the read-out - they were not optional - but those items were missing on the car. They ordered another one for me and gave me back my trade to drive for 2-1/2 months until the new car came in.

The manufacturer and the dealership were outstanding in getting this settled to my satisfaction - they built the car with additional equipment amounting to $3500 without changing the original pricing and did not lower the appraisal of my trade over the several months it took to ship the car to the dealership once it was produced. Obviously it was an error on the production line as my car was one of the first produced of that model for that year.
