we host Thanksgiving. Only going to be 12 this year since we had to jettison a couple of strays due to vaccine rules (since we have some 92 YO attendees). And one that we just didn't want here.
OF, our boss gave us $15 gift cards to Dunkin' Donuts yesterday, thought it was a nice gesture from him. The last few weeks, we've been getting around 28 hours each week which is fine with me. I did let him know that I've left the shuttle driver job I had and am available if he needs an extra body. They did call me to work on a Saturday last month but I was already working at Toyota so had to decline. But looking back, so glad I left. Dealing with customers got real old very quickly, prefer working behind the scenes as we do at Enterprise to be honest. My anniversary date is December 3rd, will mark my second year and am still enjoying it! Luckily, I'll be eligible for profit haring this last year, missed out in 2020 by two days. Another nice perk we get which makes working for them that much better.

We host 9 adults and 6 kids. Mom does most of the cooking, but I made soup (Italian wedding) and prepped the potatoes for mashed. I’ll also make the gravy once the turkey is done (22lb this year).
The most important thing is the pitcher of cranberry ginger French 75’s for an opening cocktail.

Happy Thanksgiving to all for tomorrow for most. And for a belated Thanksgiving for our Canadian friends who celebrate second week of October.
I've been prepping the turkey breast putting it into the roasting bag and peeling and slicing potatoes for the mashed potatoes for our small celebration with the kids this evening. This year they are going to the inlaws for Thanksgiving Day with DIL's parents and two siblings--Michigan fans.
Go Bucks.
Ever try keeping the skin on the potato when you mash it? It's pretty good.
Speaking of bucks I almost hit one the other day going to work. 5:30 in the morning I am going down a dark road along the forest preserve and one pretty good sized one came out of nowhere.
There were 10-11 deer in our front field a couple of nights ago. I think they must realize we don't allow hunting on our property.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. And after dodging two seasons of Covid-19 and one year of Multiple Myeloma I thank the Lord for getting me this far without incident. For my virtual friends @ab348 and @abacomike I wish them a speedy recovery. And for that I say God is good all of the time and all of the time God is good.

I like the potatoes with the skins mixed into the mash. The nutricious part of the potato is right under the skin, my mom and dad used to say. That's usually peeled away with the skin.
Gobble gobble folks! Just us two this year as our pharmacist daughter has to work at her hospital and the other kids are a bit too far away. I work tomorrow so going overnight to Orlando wasn't in the cards. Maybe if I had planned it better, we could've gone up for the day but would've really wanted tomorrow off. Will plan better next year as the daughter in Miami will either have transferred to Orlando or closer to us, Boca Raton maybe. We're going out to a place that dos a nice job on Thanksgiving actually. This will be our third year there. The one time each year I have turkey and all that goes with it.

Was discharged from the hospital fairly early today (around 1030) and my brother picked me up and brought me home. Lucy that cat had been in a bit of an upset with me gone and my brother coming in to feed her twice a day and now she is trying to figure out how to react to my return but she's coming around.
Some bizarre hospital experiences I can post about later, but for now I just want to have a nap. Giving thanks today, even though I'm in Canada.
Hospital stays are the worst, am still traumatized from my 2 week stay in 2018! Glad all went well. Getting older is great but, when not feeling good, it can really not be so wonderful. Getting over a case of vertigo and it still hits me at times.

Well it's 6:20 Thanksgiving Day and I recently got Frankenturkey (she who must be obeyed wanted the biggest turkey we could find, I think it's the size of Pluto) into the oven. Now to wait the 5.5+ hours for it to cook enough to start checking the internal temp. Now all that's ahead of me is annoying you guys and some light house cleaning while the wife sleeps in (lucky her).
Anyways;
Can you do all of us a favor and crank up the oven a bit. You really should check to see how that bird is doing more often.
I’m just about ready to jump into my seat for the big meal now.
Happy Turkey Day guys.

Very nice! I mentioned this before, but I have an AR XA turntable that I “bought” from my uncle. He was going to donate it to the children’s ministry of his church- in that environment I suspected it would have a life expectancy of around 15 minutes, so I told him to name a price and I’d donate that amount to his church. And that’s how I wound up owning it for the princely sum of $75.

They’ve done the gift card thing up here too. I don’t know if that’s corporate policy or if it’s up to local management. No matter, it’s a nice gesture. I’m wondering what the profit sharing will be like this year. Last year it was off by 60%. I hope they made money with the high rental prices they’re charging.

I’ve looked at a couple of those B&O TTables. i can refurb the table and tonearm. The cartridges are proprietary and are a tough find. Once you find one, they want crazy money for what amounts to a basic middling moving magnet cartridge.

It’s been awhile, but I’m sure it is the same thing as mine. The plunger that controls the lowering of the tone arm is all gunked up. I took it all apart, cleaned it up lubed it with something. There is a special oil but I used what I had on hand.

I just received a letter from Kia stating that I should take my 2019 Kia Soul into the dealer for a software update on the Knock Sensor Detection System. If I do this they will extend the engine warranty to 15years/ 150,000 miles.
I know that Kia has had trouble with their engines in the past so i’d welcome the extended warranty but I’m wondering if there’s any down side to this. I change the full synthetic oil every 5k miles which is probably overkill.

Agree. They are doing it for a reason and it is better to be covered. If it is a con it will be the first time the manufacturer has created a warranty scam.

As for changing full synthetic oil at 5K miles you’re being waay too conservative. Changing full synthetic even at 8K is being conservative. That being said an oil analysis is the best judge of oil longevity and the protection it provides.

Thanks all for the input. The reason I have an question about this is I have read about Kia owners having problems after this update. Mainly it’s the knock sensor being set too sensitive and cars going into limp mode requiring tows back to the dealer.
As to OCI, Kia sent me a letter last year telling me to change oil at 3750 miles instead of 7500. They never would give a straight answer as to whether they meant conventional or synthetic so I’m being cautious.
All this doesn’t give me a good feeling about Kia engines.

Just a guess….but some of the oil they used in those “lift” bars tends to harden. If you can locate the tiny reservoir behind and underneath the bar that dampens the cue lever, see if there’s any “gunk” in there. If so, with a cue tip, clear as much as out as you can. They sell some super expensive dampening oil. But, in reality, it’s just synthetic oil. A few drops of much cheaper Mobile 1 does the same thing.
Took another test drive of the M240 at my local BMW dealer yesterday. Told my sales guy I was interested. He was busy. I told him to put some numbers together on a purchase and call me when he got the chance. They had 2 of them, equipped similarly. Both in the low $50s.
Before I even got home, he called me and told me both had already been sold over the phone! Crazy!

As to OCI, Kia sent me a letter last year telling me to change oil at 3750 miles instead of 7500. They never would give a straight answer as to whether they meant conventional or synthetic so I’m being cautious.
All this doesn’t give me a good feeling about Kia engines.

Send it over to @graphicguy. He’s been bragging about how good he is at referbing this stuff, make him prove it.

More than happy to help. Send it postage paid and return shipping included. But, I know what @jmonroe1 is shooting for…..a finders fee. AIn’t gonna happen!
Nice Turntable, BTW!
Before I even got home, he called me and told me both had already been sold over the phone! Crazy!
Nice gear. Marantz is especially “hot” right now.
Can’t remember if I posted this,
but here’s my set up in my music room…….
