    You're correct on the XK-150 FHC (MY 1960 so the last to wear the original XK styling).

    I think your tight about the sedan being a Jag but I'll go with Mk.V (mid-`1940s)

    I happened to get a close up look at a Jag Mk.V this summer, your photo does not do it justice but then it's hard to find one that does. It looks la bit like a miniature Hooper Bentley..

    Another shot of Halifax in 1965, further along Barrington St and looking in the opposite direction. The large empty space was the result of urban renewal and most of the buildings in the background would also soon be gone, replaced by an interchange and new 1960s architecture.

    That Mk V Jag photo was apparently taken in 1952 in Darlington so it was a year or two old then judging by the plate which was issued in Leeds, Yorkshire.

    That Valiant has to be a '62. The ones before had the cat's-eye tail lights, and the '63 was redesigned.

    I'm afraid you have it backward bhill2, the original Valiant t/ls were on top of rear fenders and canted
    inwards



    They went to round tailights mounted lower in '62



    The red Valiant is a1960, '61s got 3 chrome strips atop the rear fenders (well they had to change something to "freshen" the look.)!

    Hmmm you may be right andys120. The Valiant in the picture on first look seems to have the round tail lights of the 1962. Closer study makes me wonder if they are backup.lights.

    If anyone gets the little white car I'll be surprised (I think I know ). Besides that there's a '60 Ford and a '59 Merc like the POS I learned to drive on.

    The little convertible is an Autobianchi Bianchina, which was based off the Fiat 500. They give the illusion of having a front grille, but do not.

    Yup, it is an Autobianchi Bianchina, a microcar built by a subsidiary of Fiat. Here's a better look at one>



    AFAIK neither the Bianchina nor any otherAutobianchi ws ever officialy imported into the USA which is too bad, their 1960s Primula was a pioneer of FWD hatchbacks and the Autobianchi Abarth A112 was a kind of Italian Mini Cooper S (1970s)>



    Did you get any of these in Canada (a friendlier market for Microcars perhaps)?

    The Bianchina Trasformabile '(convertible) appeared in the 60s movie What's New Pussycat with a big guy in a gorilla suit driving it. The movie also featured David Niven, Woody Allen and Peter Sellers..

    The Bianchina was available as a convertible, Coupe, hatchback and sedan

    Look at the two four doors parked nearest the camera and notice how small the 50-ish Buick is compared to the whale of a 1959 Mercury. It was like learning to drive the Andrea Doria. :'(

    We only got the Autobianchi wagon versions of the Fiat 500 from Fiat, but a dealer in London did import the little Bianchina as well - I think they were also the ones who brought in various Abarth coupes too.

    Fiat never sold the A112 generation either - not until we got the Lancia Yipsilon which was based on another generation of Autobianchi.

    The next car along behind the Autobianchi beyond the entrance is a 59 Oldsmobile 98 and adjacent to its hood is a Rambler wagon - again I guess a 59.

    Well, I was close. My knowledge level is pretty low that far back. I was a little young (OK, I wasn't at all).

    Both the Leganza and the Nubira (sounds like a marital aid) share the same 3-element grille but the giveaway is the beltline that turns upward towards the rear that tells it is a Leganza.

    Daewoo hit the Canadian market with a big splash in the late '90s, establishing a coast to coast dealer network. They built a new dealership about a mile or two down the road from me with a tall podium sign having a giant Daewoo logo at its top. It might have made some sense given the Canadian market's affinity for cheap cars, but I have to guess the cars were just too underwhelming, or perhaps the company's financial woes back in Korea caused them to pull the plug. They only lasted a couple of years in this market before folding. The dealer building was empty for a couple of years after that, and the impressive giant neon logo was leaning against the back wall outside the service dept all that time.

    It was the same here - ballyhooed rollout in 98-99, underwhelming sales, only made it for maybe 3 or 4 model years, I think. I recall I was still a student when the brand launched, and they marketed the Lanos especially towards young people, even making a fancy model with sunroof and leather. The dealer in that town also sold Toyota and MB, and I was always amused to see the Daewoo logo under the MB star on their big sign. Oddly enough, I still see a Daewoo here and there, so they must not have been of Yugo or Lada quality anyway.

    I recall at my first job after I graduated, a coworker had a Leganza - it was already looking a little rough, and it couldn't have been very old. Like other cheap cars, I think the brand attracted neglectful owners. I also recall a friend had a rental car in maybe 2002-03, and it was a purple Lanos, promptly nicknamed "the Skittle". It was a 2 year old car with something like 50 miles on it, apparently unsold inventory sat around somewhere.

    they did get some more mileage out of it rebadging for GM. Pontiac had a compact Lemans that was a Daewoo underneath (Andre must shudder to even think that). As was the Chevy Aveo.

    IIRC, GM bought Daewoo out of bankruptcy and used them as their Asain captive import. I recall a not very long-lived car with a Chevy badge on it with a transversely mounted inline 6 up front. Later on I think products like the Sonic and the Spark were also made by what used to be Daewoo.

    From what I remember the CEO of Daewoo wanted to target recent college graduates and younger adults who wanted a new car that was feature rich but were priced within reach. Daewoo had an issue with the transmission interlock on some models which rendered the cars unusable and the replacement parts impossible to source. Our local dealer had about 6 new Daewoos parked in the back that had been canibalized for parts to repair customer cars. This dealer also sold Olds and Eagle/Renaults. I remember asking the salesman about them when I was looking at a demo Cutlass International Series.

    Yes, I'd forgotten the Leganza - we had those too - for a time they were popular as mini cabs (the traditional Black cabs in London are the only ones allowed to pick up fares in the street but the booked cabs are not licensed in the same way and use saloon cars etc )
