Maybe a 64-65 Falcon 2 door wagon rounding the corner at left.

Awesome, SDA! I didn't recognize it but you nailed it. The condensus at TOM.com is that it's a '66 Mercury Park Lane

It's a Lancia but I don't know which one. Some sort of Zagato?

    You're close, it's a 1961 Lancia Appia Sport Zagato.

    Wow, a 1957 Eldorado Biarritz convertible. 1 of 1800. In today's dollars, $71,716.
In front of it, a 1958 Olds Fiesta wagon.

That Olds Fiesta wagon has really thin b-post pillars - structurally must be basically a convertible with a tin roof

I'm changing the year on that Eldorado Biarritz to 1958. I now see the verticals before the rear tire.

I think the best way is that the badge on the bonnet is separate from the grille on an XK120 while it is part of it on the 140 - and the grille is made up of thicker vertical bars on the 140 too.

    Bumpers are bigger too on140

Thanks, Magnette, I notice your XK-140 has a pair of turn signals just above the bumpers whereas my XK-120has only the fender tops pair and thje bimpers have no gap in center as they do on the 120s.

That's a '63. The '64 dash and console were woodgrained (fake) where there was none in '63.

Some small, coolish things about that dash were: the instrument lighting was red, the glovebox had a slide-out beauty vanity with mirror, and above the center of the windshield were three toggle switches although I can't recall what they controlled.

Note inside hood release, not all that common then.

That low mount rear view mirror was very uncommon, too.

Yes. And of course, the exterior mirrors were optional, although I like the looks of no outside mirrors.

Most everything in the Avanti's interior was soft vinyl, which was kind of nice.

Now that I think about it, for cars with a reverse-opening hood it was probably not uncommon to have an inside hood release. But even Larks had them.

The discussion about rear-opening hoods on late-'50s Fords made me look it up, and they did have an inside handle release that worked a cable on the latch. Of course nowadays, most of the questions about it you find are about how to open the hood if the cable has broken or seized or gone missing. Doesn't sound like a fun job.

Makes me think Nash, but I can't really match a model. The trim along the side just throws me for a loop.

I'm not into those cars in the slightest, but I think it's a Hudson (as opposed to Nash), since it has wheel openings! Wags call them the "Hash".

I'll say '55-57 model year range.

I googled '1956 Hudson, and a pic of that exact car popped up. It's ad lists it as a Hudson Wasp.

That speedometer is odd - single digits instead of two (3 means 30, that kind of thing). I've never seen that before.

Rambler continued to do that well into the sixties. I always thought that was goofy when I was a kid.

That, and they kept vacuum wipers waaayyyy into the sixties.

As you suggest this is a 1956 Nash Ambassador rebadged as a Hudson Wasp in Hudson's next to last year. A sad end for a great brand.

In our politically correct world I doubt 'Wasp' would make the cut to name a vehicle today. Sting like a bee, but a wasp?

'Wasp' was a lower-line model to their 'Hornet'.

Well, at least I'm not completely off my rocker. As soon as I saw it, the windows made me think Nash Ambassador, but the wheel arches and side trim just threw me for a loop. Really not familiar with Hudson shapes aside from the Hornet.

Yes - the Fiat 2300S coupe - it really is a nice looking car and could pass for much more exotic marques...
They did sell it here in the UK although I only saw them at all when I came to London - there are a few still attending car shows here but they also have quite a following in Germany - there was a stand for an owners club at the Essen show when I went to that some years back.

Was it Corgi who made the model ?

The one I am thinking of is an Impy:

    image

It appears a few continental diecast firms made a 2300 coupe, not sure about other Brits.

I thought that coupe was a BMW.

It does have a somewhat similar shape. Especially around the rear decklid.

Don't think I ever saw Impy brand toys
I do remember that Corgi Toys had a Matchbox sized rival called Husky which was sold mainly through Woolworths - we don't even have Woolworths here now sadly.

That Impy looks a bit like the Dual Ghia - Corgi did a model of one of those but badged it as a Ghia L6.4 - somewhere in our attic I still have one of those - minus box no doubt

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,483
Impy was made by a company called Lone Star. British, but I know they were marketed in NA. These were roughly the size of Matchbox 1-75 series, marginally larger, and with more opening parts. They also had a fintail:

    image

These were in production long enough to receive more free wheeling wheels like Hot Wheels and were somewhat attractive:

The rather bizarre "The Man's Car" campaign was for Mercury's 1967 models, thankfully a one-year-only thing.

Odd campaign, in the mid 00s Mercury marketing seemed to be along the lines of "Ford for women".
