The Valiant wagons of that period look to me like behind the rear doors came from some other car. :)

That said, I have always liked those very first Barracudas, despite the Valiant heritage.

Several cars to the right of the T-Bird, in a diagonal row, I see a maybe 62 Imperial with its neoclassic stand up lights, beside maybe a 62 Chrysler. Also at background right near a garage type building, a Scout with hardtop.

The Valiant heritage is no big deal IMO, after all the Gen1 Mustang was basically a re-bodied Falcon. Ford Pres MacNamara couldn't understand why prople would pay more for the 'Stang. How'd he get to run a major car company?

That said I never liked the Gen 1 'Cudas, Mustangs and Camaros looked a lot better to me. They still do to the collector market.

The Valiant’s heritage was much more visible than the Mustang’s. I’m thinking the first ones were called Valiant Barracuda. I like the huge backlight. I like the wheels or wheel covers that sort of resemble a chrome reverse wheel. I also kind of like that they’re a lot less ubiquitous than a Mustang.

I live next door to Concord but there is no Stop "& Shop in Cioncord anymore, I think the site must be the Hannaford Bros. location on Fort Eddy Rd. Both are owned by Ahold of Holland and Belgium.

At Concord the dark/light station wagon under the last O is a Plymouth - would that be a 56 Custom Suburban ?

I am intrigued by what I believe is a '62 Plymouth wagon entering the frame from the left.

What modern car featured this badge? Now out of production. Rare even when it was being produced. Saw one in traffic today, was amazed any were even sold locally.

I've never noted diesel, or not. But, they were here for a few years. Made in Mexico, I think.

For the U.S. market, Gen 2 Cruze Hatchbacks were built in Mexico, but the sedans were built in Lordstown, OH. That they built the hatch in Mexico was my first inkling that they were thinking about doing away with Lordstown, which is only 40 miles away from me, down the road. I've owned six Lordstown-built compacts from 1997 through 2017, four of which were bought new and three were five-speeds. All were cheap to buy, cheap to run and maintain, and actually fun to drive for the price point. In fact, so far, my '17 is one of the more enjoyable cars I've owned as a daily driver. Nice interior, fairly peppy, highway mileage over 40, and roomy back seat. Nice wheels too in the LT which I have, with no additional options. I considered assembled locally as a plus; no bad in that.

The Cruze hatch is not common here but you do see one occasionally. I always liked it except that I found the gas version underpowered. But the diesel? The one I saw must have been a special order as dealers never had them on the lots. I believe the engine was an Opel unit, a 1.6L turbodiesel. The only review I found said it was slightly slower than the gas engine with a manual trans but the automatic transmission was a better match.

It seems a shame as there was much hype around Chevy bringing the diesel to market and then VW diesel gate happened. Interest in diesels evaporated. Or should I say died?

Yes, that VAG scandal was the nail in the coffin for diesel passenger vehicles.

If VAG didn't cheat, there never would have been a market for diesel passenger cars here in the first place.

I always thought those wires acted as radio antennas.

Those wires would be for the radio I bet (but don't know). The other unusual feature is the indentation running down the side, that's the result of this being a 'double bubble' fuselage, where a larger tube (the top passenger section) was added on top of the lower section, which had a lounge. Here's a PanAm one set up for sleeper service:

I always found that particular aircraft odd to look at because of the rather blunt, not-very-aerodynamic-looking nose.

What looks like a beigey-gold early '50 Mercury coupe on the right edge of the frame (future lead sled perhaps) next to a mid-50s (1955?) Olds 88 in the unattractive (to me) green color a lot of them seemed to have.

Topps started in 1957 in Connecticut. Sold to private equity and they expanded it. Filed for bankruptcy in 1974.

Not sure how widespread they were. Evidently one of the first "superstores", with a full grocery, in addition to the K-Mart type stuff.

Evidently, Interstate Stores was the owner, and when they emerged from bankruptcy, they were basically a toy store, only. AKA Toys R US!
