    @michaell,
I guess she wasn't influenced by the advertising.

    She didn’t buy it new.

I do remember Lone Star - just not the Impy brand I think,
Lone Star also did a range of little railway models not powered ones but more like Matchbox sized locomotives - it was called OOO gauge which was 9 millimetre I think - Don't think I had any though

White Continental making a turn. Not sure of year. White over blue Buick sedan looks like a '53/54.

Yup, those were usually seen in black, the color of the Lotus Formula One team in the mid-70s.

Yes - the Lotus colours were based on those for John Player Special cigarettes - because we eventually had a total ban on TV advertising of tobacco products by the 70s Lotus just painted their cars the same colour as the sponsors packets for their Grand Prix team in that way - they had a similar deal with their previous sponsors -Players Gold Blend Cigarettes - which had a red and white theme.

Similar deals resulted in Marlboro sponsorship being just red and white patches on cars - no words - for other teams

This wasn't just British TV although we were among the first. I think a lot of EU countries have similar restrictions. Not all though - we were amazed when in Denmark about five years back how many tobacco products were on billboards etc - we just don't see them now- even packets have to be hidden in shops behind the counter and carry a health warning and some gruesome picture of diseased lungs / gums / etc..

Doesn't bother me though as I don't smoke.

Thats a Peugeot 404 Familiale (estate) but I think the plates mean it's one assembled in Chile.

Peugeot sent CKD cars to a number of overseas territories including South Africa, Kenya and for a long time also Nigeria - including the 403 / 404 and the 504 ranges

Also assembled in Chile and I think in Australia although I'm not sure about that.

They also had the 403 and assembled in Ireland until the latter joined the EEC (with UK ) as it avoided heavy tariffs in Ireland for a while.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,233
In addition back when Vietnam was still Indo-China - a French colony - they assembled the 403 in Saigon - separately Citroen did the same with the 2cv
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,126
I'm thinking that Chilean Peugeot was made in the Argentina Peugeot factory, which began operations in 1956. Lots of 504 taxis around when I visited Buenos Aires around 2000.

Somewhere in Central Canada (likely the Toronto area), circa 1959 or so. Some vehicles from Ol' Blighty if you look closely.

I’m always amazed by how much car design changed then in 5-10 years. Looks more like 40 years progress.

    Yeah, compare a '52 to a '62, say a Chevy.

That '59 Ford has a nose badge indicating Canadian made. Probably a Meteor.

Close enough for government work. Still a Ford underneath the Canadian badging.

I'm fairly sure GM South America used a Nova sized car at some stage in Argentina - the Opala and Comodoro or something were based on the Opel from Germany but they also did something based on US Compact sized cars too

The bumpers is what generated my guess on the year. We got new bumper regulations that started phasing in in 1973.

And a big rear hatch window that's actually all window, instead of glass covering up metal supports and interior trim.

    Also, it's newer than a '74, more like a '78.
  • sdasda Member Posts: 7,599
Dad bought a well used 71 Datsun 510 wagon 4sp to keep miles off their 76 Cutlass as they had a 70 mile commute to work. Unfortunately the wagon had a solid rear end and not the independent rear suspension of the coupe or sedan. This is very similar and same color.

I'm guessing the pickup is a Yank, perhaps an International. Nice black Fintail next to trolley tracks--looks like an upper line model perhaps a 250S

    Fintail is a W111 likely 220S/220SE

Bergen - nice city, we were there for a few days about twelve years ago.

The blue truck at the left margin is a Bedford, and there is a black Vauxhall Velox on the right corner - by the lady in white

Cream car by Benz is a BMW 700 and the battered light blue one ahead of it is a GAZ Volga M21

There are a couple of other Brits too - Norway was then, with Britain, a member of EFTA which was a trade bloc in competition with the EEC and our cars were enjoying a tariff advantage over the main European makes.

The Volga in Bergen is what caught my eye - seems Scandinavia was slightly open to Soviet cars. The BMC Farina (Austin?) ahead of the Volga also gets notice, as I call those the "British fintail".

Milwaukee, WI, early 1960s. I actually stayed in the Hotel Schroeder on the right of the pic, back in the ‘90s when it was known as the Marc Plaza. My main recollection of the several days I spent there was how sausage and cheese seemed to be the two main food groups of the area.
