we used to go to 5 guys every so often since there was one near us. Which has since closed. Have not bothered to stop elsewhere since and probably never will. We only went to CFA when traveling 95 through Virginia and it was at our usual exit for a rest stop. The one near our house always has a terrible line clogging up the parking lot.
if we are travelling and need a quick stop (about the only time we go to a FF joint now) is is usually going to be Wendy's.
Thanks - although Ramblers were more common here than many other US brands we never saw them regularly in the day.
Hey, you get full credit for recognizing it as a Rambler at all. They never were a major brand even here. My folks had a '64, which caused me to develop a soft spot for them. It had the relatively rare V-8, and thus was faster than anyone thought a Rambler would be. I was a teenage driver, so that was a lot of fun.
Rambler was always marketed basically as a relatively trim, economical car. If you are interested in an unusual departure from that theme, look up the 1957 Rambler Rebel. This was the last year that AMC, the parent corporation, made a full-size car (the Nash and closely related Hudson). For the Rebel they took the largest engine they had and stuffed it into the Rambler body. The result was amusing.

Over on the left side of the pic, an early Corvair 4-door nose to nose with a '58 Ford (at first glance I thought that was a T-bird but I don't think so now) and a '62 Mopar wagon, I believe a Dodge.
Yes that was a Bristol 170 Freighter and I think it had Bristol Hercules engines whilst the car was an Armstrong Siddeley Sapphire. Both companies were subsumed into Hawker Siddeley a few years later
Silver City Airways was the busiest airline in the UK in the fifties with short hops from Kent to the French coast - mostly from Lydd to Le Touques or Calais I think. The development of roll-on roll-off ferries from the Channel ports killed it of course and they in turn took a hit when the Tunnel opened - although that was a lot later.
Yup, it's a 1966 Humber Super Snipe USSeries V, a late example of a long line of cars made in Britain from 1938-1867. and exported to the USDM by the Rootes Group in the 1950s and 60s.
The late examples wew two cars in one,
Outside styling was American with 4 headlights, optional two-tone paint and wraparound glass. The interior OTOH...Veddy, veddy British>
I rode in one once and was impressed by the rich wood and upholstery.
Yes - Super Snipe - it sort of makes sense when the smaller version was a Hawk as a Snipe is also a bird but it is game rather than raptor so not exactly the higher designation..
This pic is from the Halifax Municipal Archive and is circa 1970. It shows that rather rough and tumble passenger ferry terminal in Dartmouth used by people to cross Halifax harbor to get to the big city. The area is now quite different but still somewhat down at the heels.
Much newer here.... December 1996. Collegetown, USA (Linfield College in Oregon). A parking lot photo outside his residence hall when I went over there to tow my 1974 Pinto wagon home after it threw a rod while my brother was driving it to school.

I was thinking it was a Valiant next to the R12, but what I can make out of the rear bumper/tail lights doesn't look right. Does look like a Valiant next to the water.
Contour gives me a rental vibe with its basic spec and out of state plate, but maybe not, with the mirror tassel.
Beside the Sable is the sliver of a Jetta, then an 88-91 Civic, Citation, and 88-92 Mazda 626. Car at far left next to the Contour possibly a Buick Somerset, and in the background loaded up with long boards, an 80-86 F-series extended cab.

Pretty solid representation by Ford (not even including the pair of Fords I had behind me in the lot).
There is a what-was-then-new Explorer on the far side of the street near the upper center of the frame. Looks like a Limited or Eddie Bauer version by the trim. Must have been the "rich kid" of the group.

Thinking about that Explorer reminded me of a friend in college here in Alaska. She was from a small town in the "local" region, and her parents bought a white 1998 Explorer in Eddie Bauer trim. After nearly a year, the car only had something like 2500 miles on it, which is nothing at all for this area, so my friend begged them to let her use it (which they granted). Fast forward more than twenty years, and she STILL drives that car (which they later gave to her as a graduation present). Even now, I don't think it has a hundred thousand miles on it.
