I recall going to McDonalds in downtown Muncie, Indiana, for a 25 cent hamburger as a break from college studying.
25 cents seems like a lot. Late '60s?
That might have been the cheeseburger price. I'm running on aged neurons for that memory, so if anyone has a different price for that middle 1962-1966 era, that's good with me. I can remember parking and standing next to the arch at one of the windows to place an order. It was so much different than the usual drive-in restaurants we had back home where a cute carhop came to take your order.
Looks like a 66 Galaxie parked at the curb at left. Cool that the wagon is driving with the rear window open.
Maybe a Borgward Isabella coupe parked next to the entrance of "The Galaxy" at right, coincidence as the Sunset video a while back also had an Isabella.
1954 was probably the first year my Dad took me to the GM Motorama at the Waldorf. I remember the Corvette exhibit featured a gizmo that involved pressing a button that would cause a hammer to strike a fender panel which suffered no apparent damage thanks to the miracle of glass fiber, The 11 y/o me didn't think of the many ways that exhbit could be deceptive.
Years later I'd see a racing Corvettes lose a whole left fender in a collision while the Mustang that hit it would suffer would suffer only dented headlight trim*
*Actually seen @ Marlboro Raceway B-Production event in Sept. 1966.

We had a McDonalds in Lexington (on New Circle Road). My first visits would have been around '64-'65, but I wouldn't have been paying. At that time, I was only interested in the french fries and chocolate shakes.
I was thinking that in '75 when I worked in McDonalds, a cheeseburger was around 40 cents. (but, I could be wrong, also). Your price just seemed high to me. I remember paying 8 cents for White Castles in the early '70s. We had to drive 12 miles to the closest one. When they finally built one near us (in Florence), they were 12 cents ('76 or '77).
I remember being on vacation with my parents in 1967 in the USA when we stopped at our first McD's. The burgers were 19 cents, as I think the shakes were as well. We were all amazed at the low prices. I assume but can't confirm that cheeseburgers were more expensive, perhaps 25 cents.
@imidazol97 With some help from The Google, I did see a menu from 1959 that had a cheeseburger at $0.19. So, your $0.25 from '62-'66 could certainly be correct.
Filet-o-Fish came out in 1962. Found a vintage menu that had one for 24 cents, and the cheeseburger at 20 cents.
Of course, there were definitely regional differences in pricing.
Another Dick's, this one in Spokane - still here today and virtually unchanged, while unrelated similar menu and format to the Seattle location: (should zoom ok)
It must be Spokane day today here. This one is from August 25, 1966, the grand opening of the new shiny K-Mart store, big news from the look of things. Expands nicely.
59? Rambler wagon next to Citroen then two Pontiacs - 56 then 53 I think about three rows above the Citroen hood is a Jeep Wagon (Wagoneer I think) which is to right of a 52 Ford
over toward the right, behind a Chevy PU with a cap (and amazing how few trucks of any kind you see back then) is a square small car which I think is a Renault. But of course I could be wrong!
looking at it again you are probably right. Whenever I blow up the picture on this device it seems to distort just enough to make some cars look different (stretched out).
In that Dick's Spokane pic, that LTD hardtop on mag wheels looks pretty mean, cool look.
Oldest passenger car I see at K-Mart I think is a 51 Ford. Yeah, that chain was ran into the ground. When I was a kid it was a go-to place for a decent diecast selection, and later lived in an area where it was the place to buy food to sneak into the movies.

FWIW the Rambler is a '60. You can tell by the cathedral tail lights rather than the small ovals of the '58 and '59.

We didn't get any MacDonalds until the mid seventies and I never saw them in Wales when I was a teen etc. Even in the early eighties they weren't ubiquitous like they are now. As a result I've never really eaten in them that frequently either.

I think my story with McD's is the opposite to start but ended up the same.... there was one in a town nearby to where I grew up, and my mother frequently took us there (well, relatively frequently. At least several times a year, which is saying a lot since we rarely ate at restaurants).
As a result, I've never really eaten at a McD's (or any fast food place) that much as an adult.

Except for the McRib, most any other place is better, IMO.
The McRib is the most vile thing on the menu. Raw chunky onions with a rib-like meat product drowning in sauce never made sense.
I visit McD's 2 or 3 times annually for breakfast. Their coffee is good and I enjoy a sausage or chicken McMuffin on those visits. Otherwise I am not a big fan of them or any other burger-centric fast food place.
I think @magnette might be talking about a different Scottish chain and not the McDonalds we are familiar with.
I made a rule years ago to never go to McDonald’s again. Have only broken it once or twice, but only in a pinch (like on the road and nothing else open or close enough).
For years there was a court case in the UK which was betweenMcDonalds and some protestors who had alleged various harmful things about the company and were being pursued in the courts here for slander to the point where they were being threatened with losing their homes. About 15 years ago there was a new branch of McDs due to open directly opposite my office and there was supposed to be a big event with clowns and so on but the protestors were all from the local area and basically there was a disturbance and scuffles...
I never went in that place on principle (and they don't sell decent tea - never did actually... )
Once in awhile we get the kids nuggets from McDonalds (usually on a Sunday when CFA is closed). Fries are still pretty good when fresh, but I haven’t had anything else in years.
Chick Fil A and Five guys pretty much rule fast food IMO. Of course as I type this I haven’t had Five Guys for over 4-5 years so they may not be as good as I remember.

Here's another Dick's, this one the location on 45th near UW. This image gives me a strong "Happy Days" vibe:

Here's a board from 1961 of prices. $.15 and $.10 for the french fries.
I'll bet I ordered the sandwich and the ten-cent fries for a TOTAL
of $.25.
So @kyfdx is right, as usual. LOL
