Interesting! Just so it helps others reading this, based on the 2% reduction in residual for 12k miles, it raises the payment $51 per month. If you actually do 12k miles a year and just pay the 15 cents per mile overage, it is $450 dollars at the end of the lease vs. $51 x 18 months = $918. Also, there is a 98% chance if you go back to the dealer to get a new lease, they will waive the $450 overage charge. So either way it makes total sense to stick with the 10k miles even if you know your going to do 12k miles.
Only Nissan has a 2% drop from 10K to 12K/yr. Your math is correct in this case, and of course it's more advantageous at shorter terms. Once you hit 36 months and/or any other make (with 1% drop), then it rarely works out.

Just to follow up on this. I closed a deal with a local NJ Nissan dealer. I got 93% residual with a 0.0376 money factor (as presented in this forum). Dealer asked $1K over MSRP, but got them down to flat MSRP ($48,545). I received $2k for the trade of my current lease (2020 Silverado RST) and I put down $2820 ($1500 cash down, $379 first payment, $920 in upfront taxes, tags, registration) for $375 per month for 18 months. It came within $5 of the online lease calculator, so I was happy. If I could have gotten just $500 off MSRP, the price would have dropped into mid $350's, but they would not budge and it was not worth restarting the negotiation somewhere new.

I think it's impossible to predict what will happen with lease rates. They've gotten progressively worse over the last 12-18 months, generally tracking with the rate hikes from the Fed. But, I have no idea what the Fed is going to do (another 25 basis points tomorrow? more after that?).

And, it isn't a guarantee that the 2024 models will immediately have better programs. I think the bank beancounters are throwing darts when they set up new programs each month.

Trucks also have not-great lease programs; wouldn't you like a nice 4-door sedan instead?

In general, you have to go against the market to find a good deal. I don't have any specific examples I can point to. Right now, trucks and SUVs are the hot commodities; cars, not so much.
