I watched the JRGO video. House is scary. And the 2 car garage stuff was IMO nonsense.

Looks like the tires are called SureDrive, their home brand. Read is very close to the one Eagle GT so I'm o k with that. Did ask if the different treads would be an issue, and was told not to worry. Vehicle drives straight & true right now so, not unhappy at all. Didn't want to replace the lone Eagle GT as the tread is almost perfect though I already knew that one of the fronts were about ready for replacement. Could I have just done the one? Think I could've but it was a snap decision on my part. Figured the vehicle is already up in the air so just might as well have them all done & be done with it. Spend the money now, or spend it a few months down the road...it's still going to bee spent. Now I know my tires are all in great shape since the VW isn't going anywhere for awhile.
Again, having the different treads isn't something I'm even thinking about! Guess I really am getting older!

If you are thinking of trading the Golf, the dealer will think it is odd to have 3 tires of one brand and 1 of another brand and they will need to replace the 1 tire so the trade in will be less. It has a dirty carfax so I’m not sure how much it will matter though.

I’d personally prefer all 4 matching tires/ tread/ manufacturer etc but not everyone thinks alike.

When I see mixed brands of tires on a car it's a guaranteed hard pass for me- ditto for "house brands."

Guess it don't really matter to me right now since it's staying put. At this stage of life, this being my biggest problem, I feel very blessed. And the tread pattern looks so close, doubt many would even care. For some reason, it just doesn't seem to bother me one bit.
Drove a Jeep Wrangler hybrid yesterday at work. It was over heating so I was taking it to the Jeep dealer. Had to turn the a/c off as the temp gauge went up to the top and was all red. Luckily we had a nice breeze though it was a hot one, I just opened the windows and went on my way. Only had like 1600 on the clock but the rig drove terribly! It was all over the road & had to constantly correct the steering wheel to stay in a straight lane. Why is that, has happened in every Jeep Wrangler & Gladiator I've driven at work...and totally annoying! And for some reason, we seem to have a lot of these in our current fleet.

I don’t like mixed brands because I wonder what else they skimped on maintenance wise.

The sure drive seem ok with 50,000 mile warranty though and I know they are Bridgestone/ Firestone

Couple of recalls. One is for coolant leak and the other for something with cooler for hybrid battery. Either way probably best to have it towed

Jeeps especially with knobby tires require more steering corrections. My Sahara with street tires less so than when I had a Rubicon. Jeeps drive like …..Jeeps.

Speaking of Jeeps- mine has death wobble again. Going back in on Monday. I don’t think the RRT for the front ball joints was ever done.

Excellent response, you should hire yourself out as a Lemon Law consultant.

One question. If GM does a buyback or gives you trade assistance where does sales tax enter into the equation? If they give your your money back do they also refund the sales tax paid? In my state that could amount to $5k on your typical overpriced truck.
Yes…all taxes, all dealer fees, any finance interest and/or fees…the deal is totally unwound on a total buyback. On a unit swap, you should try to keep the MSRP between the unit you have and the unit you’re getting as close as possible. You pay the difference between any delta price wise between the new unit and the lemon unit. However, all fees for the transaction are taken care of by GM.

Saturday I encountered probably the most dangerous vehicle/driver combination on the road today- a Buick Roadmaster being driven by a guy north of 70, alone in the car, wearing a mask. He was looking 90 degrees to his direction of travel as he pulled in to a BP station that I was exiting. I was in my wife's X1 and I had to nail the gas to keep the idiot from clipping my left rear quarter.

I know you guys all love your Jeeps…. But I had a 4XE as a rental and while it was a very nice rig, just not for me.

I do certainly get the appeal though.

I would not mind having one as a toy (2 door only) but my wife would hate it with a passion. Not the hill I want to die on!

I have her sucked into the Mini or 2 series convertible plan though. Now just need to find one to try out. Once we get that requirement out of the way, I can just shop remotely.

Mini dealer nearby apparently has 4-5 (some on the ground), oddly all sticks (fine by me, not sure if she will be a huge fan). So easy to experience one of those. But a 2 series convert up here, rare as hen's teeth. 2nd closest dealer had one listed on cars. com but the SM just confirmed it has been sold. Might be able to find a coupe someplace. That should give a decent feel for what it is like.

my wife driving a newer BMW gives me a chuckle. I don't think she would ever figure it out. Might have to stick to the truck. That is Luddite simple pretty much.

I agree, not my cup of tea. Now if I had to drive into the woods or down my ravine I could see some benefit but not on the road as a DD. I never felt they wandered but they seem cramped to me.

Albany Airport has the occasional 2 series for rent (not convertible). You might inquire there and see if they can hook you up so you can get the feel of them. To me they’re not too much smaller inside than a 3 series.

I, too, found 2er convertibles flew off the shelf around here, especially the I6 engines. That's why I jumped on the current garage denizen, after hard bargaining, of course (how about mats, will you throw in winter mats? And, a second key? Please? He fell like a house of cards...).
We look forward to tales of test drives and purchase victory.

I drove a Jeep in my wild youth, as an errand runner for the gas station I worked at. No joy in that for me. My bud had an original Cherokee, three of us went skiing, I drew the short stick and had to sit in the back seat; possibly the most uncomfortable I've ever been in a car. Early in life, I knew a Jeep was likely not in my future.

But, as we know, one size does not fit all!

That was my recollection when I got the G6 bought back, but there was a prorated deduction for mileage (based on 100k life expectancy, IIRC) for a complete buyback. They initially offered me an "MSRP to MSRP" swap--basically, $23k or whatever the sticker price was as "house money" against a replacement. Since Pontiac was being wound down by that point, I think they told me I could apply it towards any new GM vehicle.

I looked at the 4xe this afternoon. Very clean and as it was unlocked I was able to look it over. My wife liked it a lot, even saying she'd be good to drive it in place of the X1 once I retire in 2025. It was boxed in so I didn't want to bother a salesperson but it's definitely a possibility.

The figures JRGo gave for his new shop seem very vague. I think he omitted the cost of property taxes, and going forward, he's probably only going to be quoting materials costs (other than for big/specialized jobs like spray foam), since I assume he and Eric will provide much of the labor, like they did for the abandoned mini resort, so the costs aren't going to be comparable for most people.
  • MichaellMichaell Moderator Posts: 266,235
I assume Eric is a silent partner in both the mini resort and the new place, given how much work he's put into renovating the mini resort.

Will be interesting to see who gets their new place up and running first, JRGo or Hoovie.

I figured that the rental place was a joint owned project. For what ends up being his house, not as easy! May just pay him like any other contractor. He did mention taxes but not how much. Being Kansas, probably not a whole heck of a lot. Still, all in, a good deal to get a shop that size out of it, and a big house. And did not even have to move out to the boondocks.

that house though, was seriously scary. Don't want to think about some of the things that likely happened in there.

Drove a Mini Cooper Countryman on Saturday at work and think I'm over it. Drove o k, just not sure I'd want one for the next ten or so years. And their price point is pretty crazy to be honest. Just glad I've put off buying for the time being. Guess getting some new sneakers just made me want to keep what I've got...for a bit longer.
Just got petrol for the A3 at BJ' as the girls came back Friday night. The odometer showed just under 79,400 which didn't surprise me. Betting on her keeping it maybe another eighteen months, give or take, and figure she'll be getting a 2026 something. What will be the big question here. I'd wager there's a 0% chance she'll get another Audi, or any German vehicle for that matter. I think if I could get her into a small CUV, she'd like it. Again, after coming home from filling her tank, she complained about having to push on the back of the seat to get out. Think if I could get her into something that she could just slide in & out of, she'd be much happier.

I think that was overblown... I'd venture to guess that 99% of the bad things that happened inside were the smoking of cigarettes.

Agree with you, Eric could be a silent partner on the mini resort, but I wouldn't want that on the place where I live. If I trusted someone, I'd probably offer to pay them a bit more than whatever their general contractor pays them (which would still be a lot less than the GC would charge a customer).

Sunday evening, after a baseball game, we went to a newish restaurant we have been wanting to try. Since it was Sunday, I checked online to see what their hours were. They were open until 8.

We got there a few minutes after 7 and the hostess said the kitchen closed at 7. On our way out I noticed the sign on the door said they were open until 8 also.

I really don't have a problem with it, but is that normal?

I n iw some places that are bar/restaurants that close the kitchen earlier than the bar but they always listed the times separately. What you described sounds odd

sounds normal to me. If you served till 8, you couldn't close at 8 unless you forced a doggie bag on everyone. Maybe a bit early, all things considered. 7:30 would be more reasonable. If you can't finish your food in 30 mins, you got problems.

I see kitchens closing earlier than close time, frequently. But, 7 PM close for an 8 PM close restaurant is a little weird. Maybe 8 PM is Sunday or Holiday hours?

My son was a manager at a local "upscale" pizza chain. (mostly sit-down diners). If they were open until 10 pm, someone could come in at 9:59 pm and sit down to eat.

Personally, I think that's rude, but that was their deal.

When I was in college, I worked part time at several pizza places. More than once, minutes before closing at 12-1am customers would walk in wanting to have a sit-down meal. We had already broken down the salad bars, cleaned the kitchen and were ready to lock the door and leave. But no, the manager always insisted we re-open the kitchen to cook for the late stragglers. That would delay our leaving by an hour or more and made for an early morning with little sleep!

He did some training over there, when he was promoted from kitchen manager to the front of house. I think we've only eaten at that one, once.

We used to have one super close at the Levee, but that closed up a few years back. Mostly we hit Oakley or Crestview Hills. But, they've opened up next door to Braxton Brewing in Covington, and that might be our new favorite. About 3.5 miles.

It's really a nice place to eat. But, for carryout, we have other places closer (Newport Pizza Company).

In college I worked at the sub shop across the road from a strip club. We were open until 3am (same time the club closed). Invariably, the girls would show up at the locked door at 3:15 wanting something to eat. Sometime we would let them in but usually not.

Those poor hard-working girls, just wanting some nourishment after a hard day’s work! I would have let them eat for free.

At my local, the kitchen doesn’t accept new orders after closing time, and the wait staff goes around and tells patrons the kitchen is closing prior to that occurring. The manager will occasionally keep them open beyond regular closing time if they still have a steady stream of patrons coming in. Agree that 7:00 is pretty early to stop seating people on a Sunday. Maybe they had a slow day and wanted to send everyone home.

    Great MPG!

Truck has been averaging a stellar 13.3 all city.

I mentioned my neighbor got one just like mine and he commented going from an Acura TL to the 5.7 was an adjustment at the pump.
