comparison to the 2+yrs it took me to go over 10k with Al'Gator, ya 10+k within 11 months is a feat for me... and it's all mike's fault ;-)

mike - if you need to get it back to stock, say, for autocross or whatever, we can swap rims if you want the OE ones back on there.

It's not like my wife would notice, anyway. :o)

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Nah I won't be going back to 15" rims anytime soon. Especially if I go to the WRX calipers and rotors.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Good point - they won't clear those.

OK, less work for me. :o)

does anybody know of any upgrades for the front/rear stabilizer bars, or any strut tower braces for a 00 OB. I'd like to reduce lean in the twisties. Any suggestions?

    Eric

P.S. I know the OB's ground clearance will make it worse--and I should've gotten the Legacy--so shoot me!

I know bat has been looking for bigger sways. I believe they are available from Whiteline. Maybe through primative racing?

    Eric,

As Mike mentioned I have been checking out upgrading the rear sway bars on my 00 OBW. It looks like there are 2 main manufacturers : Cusco, and Whiteline. I just found through AZP, that Metric Subaru sells the Cusco bar for $175. I emailed him to find out if that includes the links/bushings or not. Someone earlier on this board mentioned that you should upgrade the links with the bar. I'll let you know what their answer is.

bushings, but links will be anouther $100 or so, depending on mfr.
  • bat1161bat1161 Member Posts: 1,784
How important are the links? Is it worth the extra $$?

BTW, Dennis, Cobb lists the bar for a 96-99 Legacy/Outback. I think it may be different for a 2000.

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
    Links...

IMHO are well worth it. I know I noticed a big difference between putting a sway and putting a sway w/ endlinks in the L. Essentially if you have a 13mm bar with rubber endlinks you are at X anti-roll. If you put a 22mm bar on w/o endlinks you are at X+22 anti-roll. If you put a 22mm bar w/endlinks you are at X+26mm (not an exact calculation)

I would imagine that a stiffer sway bar would put that much more force into the end links. You may ask whether the stock links can take the additional stress. They may just flex more and thereby negate some of the good handling effects that you are aiming for.

Yeah probably the bars and links would have to both be upgraded. But for a reasonable price--I'm game!

Mark--we're both in the same boat with the 00 OBW. Let me know what you find out.

Mike--so you said you're running 26mm bars on the L? Is the difference significant?

    Eric
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
I'm running a 20-22-24 adjustable one. I keep it set at 24 and have the whiteline endlinks. and whiteline mounting brackets.

Difference? HUGE. Especially cause the FWD Bias of the 4EAT trans in the L. I can now kick out the back and not plow like I did w the stock bar.

Cobb now sells a hollow 25mm swaybar for the STi, WRX and XT.

He comments more over on nabisco/forester.

Just as a FYI for anyone interested. I emailed Cobbtuning asking if they sell a rear swaybar for the 2000 OB, following Dennis' link(thanks Dennis). Their reply was that they do not have one yet due to the redesign of the OB in 2000. Oh well, still waiting to hear from Metric.

    A new question:
I've tried looking it up at my.subaru, but I am having no luck. Does anyone know the correct size of windshield wiper blades for a 2000 OB? I think the drivers side is 22", the passenger 20" or 18", and the rear is 16" or 18". I'm looking to p/u winter blades, and I want to get the correct ones the first time out.

    TIA,

    Mark,

I measured the OEM wipers that I took off my '03 OBW this weekend. The driver side is about 21.5", the passenger side is about 19.5" and the rear is about 14.5". 22" and 20" would probably work. Not sure if they come in 15" for the rear.

I'm using the Anco winter blades that I bought for my '96 OBW. The driver side is 20", the passenger side is 18" and the rear is 16". The front wipers work fine but I think the 16" rear may be a little too big since it doesn't seem to form to the curve of the upper part of the glass.

Of course I put them on AFTER this weekend's snow storm and it's raining now and probably all day tomorrow.

    Dave,

Thanks for the info. This past weekends storm is what made me think of the winter blade. I realised the usefulness of winter blades after I did not have them on last years 48hr trip. We had to keep stopping periodically so that I could knock the ice and sludge off the wipers so they could work properly. This year I plan on having them!
I've noticed that the rear wiper doesn't fully cover the window at 16"; I think I may try your suggestion of 15".

    Thanks again,

    Dennis-

Thanks for another good link. The only thing with this model is no adjsutable factor - it is 18mm only. From everything I have heard, the adjustable is more desirable. Any opinions out there?

There's someone on ebay selling these new for Subarus. Do any of you have experience with these?

Anything to especially watchout for and where did the factory place the unit in the trunk?

    TIA,

    Jim
  • hypovhypov Member Posts: 3,068
Didn't know Subaru offer trunk mounted changers?
Only seen those mounted under the driver's seat.

    -Dave
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Yup, never saw one trunk mounted from the factory. Got a link?

    -mike
  • jfljfl Member Posts: 1,398
trunk mount was my assumption. it was made by clarion. none currently listed on ebay, but i've seen them every now & then.

i'll post a link if it i see another.

    thx,

    jim
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
Clarion was the one that was mounted under the seat.

      Cheers Pat.

I'd suggest the in-dash changer from the WRX or similar model. Why get out to change CDs when you don't have to?

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Looks like there will be a slight delay in the turbo install that was planned for this winter...

I am putting in a 5MT tranny along with the rear diffy and hubs and lateral links etc from an '03 WRX with 18K miles, got an outstanding deal on the parts so couldn't pass it up. Just need to get a flywheel for the 2.2 and a starter.

Either black primer or grey primer, Just a fresh coat :)

maybe you should buff & wax the primer to reduce wind resistance. 8~)

Mike: Just for effect, put a couple of those Bullet hole stickers along the door of the Franken L. Normally, I think they're absolutely silly, but in this case I think they'll enhance the car's intimidation factor. :-)

  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
I must say I'm a little disappointed that the tranny swap comes before the forced induction. Your heroics in the 4EAT Franken L were a source of inspiration for us slushbox drivers. ;-)

I'm sure it'll help make you more competitve at the track, though.

5MT, really? I thought the gearing on the auto was actually favorable for tracks like Summit Point? Color me surprised.

5MT.... ooooo looks like Pebbles will be called to duty sooner than planned.

    -Dave
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
it needs a 5MT to be a real track beast, so I'm not at all surprised.

and then have someone airbrush Frankenstein stitches all over it.

Make it look like Gerry Cheevers' (old time hockey!) goalie mask:

I think it would be a lot cheaper, and reversible, to have that done as vinyl stickers. I like the idea though!
