Tring to figure out the lease terms of a 2023 Nautilus reseve, AWD, Pristine white color, Twin Turbocharge upgrade, 20 inch wheels, cargo utlity
MSRP $59895
Incentives $2250
Dealer Discount $2070
Adjusted Price $55575
3 year,16,500 Mile, PA Zip Code 15501
I think the residual should be $28750 and apr/money factor 1.2%
Dealer quoted $1008 then $993 now $927 per month
My calculations have the lease at $858
I believe the dealership is using 3% apr/money factor and not 1.2%.
My question is do my numbers seem correct? Is dealership marking up the apr/money/factor? Any comments, advice, suggestions would be appreciated.
1.20% APR 48% residual $2250 lease cash
Ask the dealer what number they are using for the adjusted cap cost - if it's different from the $55,575, find out why.
Then you can discuss the possibility of the APR being marked up.
I called the Dealership. The adjusted cap cost is $56,877.30
Here's how they got to it: MSRP $59,895 Discount $2070 Rebate $2250 Adjusted Price $55,575 Dealer Doc $449 Non Tax Fees $853.30 Balance $56,877.30
We agreed on residual 48% = $28,750 He said they are using Lincoln Financial 1.2% APR = .0005 Money Factor I ran all the numbers and came up with: Total Rent $1541.28
Base Payment: $824.14 Tax: $74.17 (9% in PA) Payment: $898.31
I spoke with the sales manager and he could not tell me what the total rent was. He lead me to believe that the Lincoln calculator does not tell you that number and insisted that he was using the 1.2% APR to get to a lease payment of $927.

Am I crazy? How do the numbers work out?
I agree with your math, using those prices.
The only explanation is that the MF/APR is marked up, or the "balance" is different from what they say. Those are the only two variables in a lease calculation.

Your calculations are correct...
But..
Are you sure that their "Balance" is the actual Adjusted CAP cost? What is the amount Due at Signing? Itemization of the $853.30 fees? Where is the acquisition fee accounted for? (usually taxable) What about upfront sales tax on the rebate? Are you sure that sales tax is 9%? In some localities in PA, it's 10% or 11%.
If they give you a screenshot off the computer, or you see it on a contract, it would become clear.

Thank you all for your help. Understanding how leases are calculated has help me save myself, family, and friends thousands of dollars over the past several years. Everyone is so helpful in this community.
My father initially went the dealership and asked for the company's best offer on a 36 month, 16,500 mile lease of a 2023 Lincoln Nautilus Reserve. The said their best price $1008. Long story short after several negations over the course of 4 days - speaking with the sales consultant, sales manager (who claimed he didn't know what rent was in a lease), and finally the finance manger the dealership agreed to discount the selling price of the car to what they initially offered: $2070 off of MSRP and agreed to use Lincoln Financial's ACTUAL residual value and money factor (apr); they leased the car for $896.13. I feel beaten down by just getting them to be honest sales people.
I encountered several deceptive sales practices including increasing the apr (money factor), reducing the residual value, and "forgetting" to include the agreed discount of the car. The nail in the coffin was when I finally scanned a copy of a previous lease from Lincoln Financial and told the dealership to give me the exact numbers of line items A through L. As advised on this forum it became abundantly clear where they were fudging the numbers.
Here's what was leased: 2023 Nautilus Reserve Upgraded v6 twin turbo engine Pristine white color option 20 inch wheels 18 inch spare Cargo package MSRP including destination fee was $59,895.
Here's how the lease worked out (within a few cents): a. Gross Capitalized Cost - $59,069.37 b. Capitalized Cost Reduction - $2250 c. Adjusted Capitalized Cost $56,819.37 d. Residual Value - $28,749.60 e. Depreciation and any Amortized Amounts - $28,069.77 f. Rent Charge - $1540.24 f. Total of Base Payments - $29,610.01 h. Lease Payments - 36 I. Base Payment - $822.50 J. Sales/Use Tax - $74.03 K. Total Payment - $896.13 L. Lease Term - 36
Within negations this lease price changed 5 times from $1008, to $993, to $927, to $922, and finally to $896. Every time the price changed they assured me I had just got the best price. I believe I may not have gotten the cheapest lease with these features, but at least I know at the end of the day I know I got a fair deal.
Thank you for all your help and advice.
$1008 to $896 = $112 difference x 36 months = $4032 Savings
@ajband27 Congrats! Thanks for the detailed report!
So funny thing happened this afternoon. We had made arrangements to pick-up the car at the dealership tomorrow at 11:30. We got a call from the dealership - Sorry we've sold the car, but can we interest you in a different Nautilus on our lot? I kindly described their lack of integrity and business ethics and told them we would look for a Lincoln somewhere else. Oh well... There's always another car.

It is an option to upgrade the engine, so no, it it is not a trim level; that would still be reserve but wasn't sure if the engine would impact the residual
