On another related note, it was a Thompson Submachine Gun that my Dad used to take out 2 German machine gun nests and a mortar unit that was killing men in his unit. Several grenades helped as well. It earned him a Silver and a Bronze Star, both of which hang in a wood and glass case beside his Purple Heart on the wall above my bed. There are several other medals in the case all earned in The Battle of The Bulge. God, I miss him just thinking about his Thompson Submachine Gun! 😪
————————————————@Mike you have every right to be proud of your Dad. I never knew him and I’m proud of him too and glad he was on our side during those rough years. If it weren’t for him and all the others like him, we’d be speaking German with a Japanese accent. We owe those guys much more than they ever got.
When they call his generation the best generation of this country, it was not just a goody/goody saying… it was damn true and well earned.

Exactly, jmonroe. He was in the Signal Corps. He commanded 35-40 men which started out to be several miles behind the front lines coding, decoding and transmitting orders to the front from command.
The Germans plowed through the front lines (I.e. The Bulge) and my Dad’s unit got caught 2 miles behind ENEMY lines. There were four.large tents with communications lines running forward and backwards from their position. They started receiving mortar fire and machine gun fire from several enemy positions. My Dad’s unit was being targeted and many men were injured or were killed in action. Dad said he was pulling the injured from the tents and knew the only way to survive was to take out the German positions attacking them. So he grabbed a grenade belt, his Thompson and additional reels of ammo and flanked the enemy positions taking out one position at a time. He told me he killed over 20 German soldiers.
He was awarded the Bronze star for saving the lives of 8 soldiers and then awarded the Silver star for taking out 3 enemy positions singlehandedly. Yes, jmonroe, he was among America’s best generation. I am proud of him, to be sure..

cooking up a scheme to possibly do a Q1 snowbird rental and wanted to get a feel for how reasonable that is to do. It makes sense if in an area like that there are lots of people looking to rent out summer places for a good price instead of leaving them empty so want to know if that is a real thing or just something I made up!

In addition to Rare Earth, saw James Gang play the next day. I think I was 12 at the time. On a trip filled with firsts, I also was allowed to go the the grandstands to see the bands, UNSUPERVISED. Didn't really take advantage of it as all the sights and sounds were new to me and I was just ecstatic to see bands I liked live. And, it was the site of my first kiss.
Memorable trip, all the way around.
I looked at the website where he got it, and they still have more than 20 2024 F-150s in stock so that can't be it.
As long as he's happy... He did say that yesterday was a stressful day. I am surprised I got that much out of him.

It's the door we use the most.
Bolt was stuck and I couldn't get it to move.
Only one of the door hinges was the drop in pin type and I couldn't figure out how detach the other two.
Damage was $40 for service call, $65 new door handle, $120 to open the door, plus tax.
The new bolt did fit with the old handle but was very notchy, so I had him install what he had with him.
It operates smoothly.

Trust me......I am not the only one.
If you can be trusted, you don't have to say "Trust me". If you are honest there is no need to say "Honestly", does that mean other times when you talk you aren't honest?

I used to have an oil change or A and B service and I'd wait for 2 hours....now they say they need the car all day.
I used to drive up and get something fixed right away, that doesn't happen any more.....these days you have to book an appointment.

I’ve been burned by the current ford dealer enough I don’t bother to wait even for quick stuff like an oil chance since there always seems to be a software update too. Acura has been pretty good so I’ll wait there for basic service. Thankfully both are within 15 minutes of my house so I can just have the wife follow me down to drop it off and the. They can take as long as they need it.

Are you saying you spent over $200 for this door handle problem. Why didn’t you remove the entire door handle. There are 2 screws that should be accessible from inside the laundry room. Once you removed the inside handle you would have been able to push the handle on the garage side out. That would have allowed you to finagle the latch and thereby open the door. I’m pretty sure that is what your locksmith did.
As for not being able to remove the hinge pins, you can thank the building codes for that. It seems there is national code that prohibits a door leading into the house from the garage not to be self closing and the 2 hinge pins you couldn’t remove are the self close hinges. The code reasoning is if there is a fire in the garage the fire couldn’t easily spread through an open door into the house. The same reasoning applies to exhaust gases entering the house if a car is left running. There is a good bit of spring tension on these 2 hinges (usually adjustable) so the hinge is made without a removable pin. If you could remove the pin it would definitely allow to spring to unwind and you could end up with a hole somewhere in your body. Of course the down side of this code didn’t think about the inconvenience of not allowing the door to remain open when you’re unloading groceries from your car.
Don’t get me started on codes especially electrical codes because I’d be posting all day about those.

I did remove the door handle, it wasn't the first time I had to 'fix' it. This time it totally locked up.
That's some good info about those hinges I haven't seen before. They look like they are designed to have a spring in them.
Funny thing is I just went down and opened the door. It didn't try to close.
The locksmith guy spent about 45 minutes trying to open the door, so maybe he didn't know how those hinges work, or maybe he did, and wanted nothing to do with trying to disassemble them.
If I had been able to remove the door, I could have replaced the bolt mechanism for about $15 max.
I decided to take the Club Sport for a drive today- in the calm before the upcoming five days of rain and thunderstorms.

Dropped the G90 off at the car wash at the mall this morning and told the new manager to do an interior cleaning and vacuuming and to do an exterior wash. They “hand wash” the car which is why I use them exclusively. They charge $44.95 for interior/exterior and $24.95” for exterior only.
I went to pick up the car around 12:00 PM and when I asked them what I owed them, they said it was $89.95. I was flabbergasted and asked why it was so expensive. The response was that they waxed and detailed the car. I made it clear to them that I just wanted an interior/exterior cleaning, not a detail and wax. After 5 minutes of hemming and hawing, the manager just charged me the $44.95 and he apologized for the misunderstanding - it seems that the intake guy was new and his mastery of the English language was questionable. So I gave the young man a $10.00 tip and we agreed that a detailing job would never be needed on the car.
But in the end, the car looks like it just came off the showroom floor.

You are probably right about the locksmith releasing the force of the hinges. All he had to do was use a door stop wedge under the door to hold it open while he worked on the door handle.
If you look closely at the top of those self close hinges you’ll see a collar with holes around its circumference. One of those holes on each hinge should have a keeper pin in it (hopefully your locksmith didn’t lose them). The spring hinges are supplied with a hardened steel adjusting pin (maybe 3 inches long) to adjust the tension of the hinge. Find an Allen wrench that fits into those holes. Don’t use a nail because they are too soft and will bend when trying to make the adjustment.
To make the adjustment, insert the Allen wrench into one of the holes and rotate it a few holes, then while holding the Allen wrench in the hole, insert the keeper pin in an exposed hole as far away from where the Allen wrench is as you can. CAUTION, don’t remove the Allen wrench until the keeper pin is securely in the hole. Otherwise it will unwind quickly and you’ll be in trouble. Make the adjustment on both hinges as equally as you can with the force you’re satisfied with to close the door. There might be videos showing how to do this but I haven’t looked. If those keeper pins are lost, call your locksmith and see if he can give you the 2 that you need. Otherwise see if a hardware store has them because you can’t get the hinge adjusted to close the door without them. Then again, you may like the door to stay open when you’re carrying packages
Let us know how you made out with the fix.

The locksmith hever touched the hinges. I had already removed the door handle while trying to get the door bolt to move.
I don't have any adjustment tools for the hinges.
There is a depression on the top and a small hole on the highest vertical cylinder just above the hinge section that is attached to the door frame.
From your post I thought the door closed via the self close hinges before the locksmith showed up. Are you now saying the door never closed via the self close hinges? If that’s the case you’re back to where you always were. Problem solved. However, if/when you go to sell your house, it will fail a home inspection and you won’t be able to present an occupancy permit at closing. So, if you want the sale to go through you’ll have to make the fix then.

Judge Judy: And were you driving talking on your phone when you hit the kid on a bicycle?
Defendant: Honestly, I can tell you I was driving 20 mph and the bike came from out of nowhere, maybe the bike and kid fell out of a tree.
Judge Judy: Don't give me "Honestly", just tell me exactly what you saw and what you were doing.......
Why use honestly, would you be telling the judge something that is dishonest or not true? It is superfluous, extraneous, a salad word, it does nothing to advance the story.......

Definitely a real thing. Lots of people looking for winter renters.
We use it when we can, which has quickly dwindled to 2 weeks in the summer.
We had a group of ladies from China take it over for Jan-Mar. Only $1400/months but better than nothing, I guess. Hopefully left the place in good shape. Haven’t heard anything yet.

Doesn't this car have a ceramic coating?
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
No, imid. It’s a lease so I decided not to invest $1200 in a car I don’t own. A waxing every 6-10 months should be enough to keep it looking good. Besides, the layers of clear coat are usually sufficient for a lease. But, if I owned the car, I would have ceramic coating applied. The Florida heat and sun is brutal on a car’s finish since it is parked outside 24/7/365.
