rel="jwm40517">graphicguy, An old friend had both hips replaced several years apart, the earlier one more than ten years ago with surgery at the rear. The more recent one had surgery from the front with less cutting of muscle. After the last one on a Friday he was back to work the next Tuesday. Of course he works in an office and does not climb utility poles.

Same for a co worker of mine. He had one hip done the old way and was out for weeks but the other hip done with a more modern procedure and had a much quicker recovery. He said to select a younger doctor because the older ones haven’t learned the better techniques and do what they are familiar with.

The newer BMWs have an interior color called Tacora Red; to me it looks rather bland:

I really like the Cranberry Red leather in the C43:

The C43 we were going to drive (the one grabbed by the Nerd Couple) also had a Cranberry Red interior with a Lunar Blue exterior- we referred to that combination as a "Superman" car when I worked at BMW.

    Either is better than black.

About the hip/knee replacements. My wife had two knees 2 years apart. She had been in physical therapy strengthening her muscles trying to put off the surgeries. The extra strengthening of those muscles helps in the recovery according to the PT she had (a phd in PT who taught presurgery class for both knee and hip folks at the major hospital in area).

I believe there are web sites that give exercises to do in prep for surgery.
@graphicguy Wishing the best surgery and rehab for you.

Another note is the hospital each time wanted to set up home health service visits. After 3 visits the first time, we fired them. Useless. I could do more with the required exercises to stretch the leg muscles after the surgery shock to prevent scar tissue forming. A different person came each time. I think the service was an ancillary company connected to Premier Health, the group name for the biggest hospital group here.

Again, thanks for all the very good advice. It's greatly appreciated.

From what my surgeon says, first thing he will do is to repair the abductor muscle. Not sure how that is done. And, he also said he will replace the hip via computer guided machine. I guess the MRI and CT Scan shows him, not only what's wrong, but where all this needs to happen, physically.

If it weren't for the abductor issue, he said the rehab would have been easier and shorter (he's blunt, but I like him).

So, that necessitates the need for a longer recovery and rehab.

He's probably in his 40s, so comparatively young.

I'm doing my damndest to stay out of a rehab facility. Trying to see if insurance will cover an in home rehab specialist. My sister (who's older) offered to come stay with me, but I'm not sure how much she would be able to help. But, between her and my son, I'm trying to cobble together a plan for when I get home.

My sister gave me another alternative....."how quickly can you fire up another relationship with someone who would be willing to live with you for a couple of months?".

Doable, but the aftermath is more of a concern. ;)

Whoa, before I did that I’d ask @imidazol97 to come over. I don’t think he’s all that far from you. :D

It’s really different if you are in a rehab facility where everyone is focused on improving and going home, rather than one in a nursing home which is very dispiriting. At the former type, everyone is very positive and upbeat and rooting for you to get better. You also get rehab appointments every day rather than a few times a week. That’s what you want.
That said, everyone I know who has had hip replacements (generally only one) have been sent home rather than to a rehab facility.

Cinna is a he, and he spent most of last night exploring the house - spent about 5 minutes staring at our fish tank, and was at the back door after the sun went up, just looking outside (we have a few Nest cameras scattered about the house).

Has been under our bed most of the day today.

Actually, I prefer surgeons and specialists (cardiologists, oncologists, gastroenterologists, etc) who are aged 45-70 because they update their skills and techniques annually while at the same time they have a myriad of successful experiences working with and on patients on a daily basis. Most specialists are in practice with a group of colleagues whose ages vary as well as technology and techniques and frequently interact with each other.

Younger specialists have not had a myriad of successful experiences and have a steep learning curve when compared to more seasoned specialists. I agree that younger physicians/specialists come into practice with the latest approaches and techniques and share those techniques with their colleagues. However, they usually possess less seasoned patient/doctor interactionary skills or bedside manner.

Just my take on doctors after having been under the care of over 60-70 doctors in my 80 years of life.

I just had to switch to a young internal medicine doc. I mentioned my knee gives sharp pain with certain movements but occasionally. Her response was likely just arthritis. I wondered if an X-ray is needed.

My previous doctor would have quizzed me, suggested an X-ray but indicated he thought it might be arthritis, and shown me some exercises to strengthen the muscles. There's a sagacity of how to handle things that comes with age and experience.

I asked my surgeon about going home the same day. He said if it was only a hip replacement, that would probably be the case. But, repairing the abductor tear on top of ithe hip replacement would probably warrant an overnight stay.

Not my idea of a good time.

Thanks for the advice in separating the rehab facility vs a nursing home. Can't imagine they'd put me in the latter. But, something to check into.

I think my love of red interiors comes from my Father. First car I remember him driving was a mid-late '60s Olds 98 with a bullet nose grill. It was coal black with red leather interior.

He got a charge out of flooring it, waiting for the trans to kick down and the full 4 bbls to open. It would rock back on its haunches and launch from there screeching the tires. He would chuckle and say "got to blow the soot out of it every once in a while"!

Weird what I remember about my early years. LOL!

Watched one of those J&S Auto Haus YouTube vids last night. I had to shake my head.

The guy who does most of the vids announced they wanted to help people who are struggling financially to get into a car. Sounds like BHPH, but whatever. He said he wanted to help anyone who has been turned down for credit get into a NEW Mitsubishi Outlander. Must be a lot of manufacturer money on those to buy down the interest rate for bad credit, or maybe very long term loan.

Either way, he made it clear to his sales force he wanted to talk to those in need.

What did he get? One guy had a Civic that had 3 blown engines and the "kid" was upside down on it. Instead of trying to dig himself out, he said he wanted a BMW M340 instead.

Either I'm getting persnickety, or just tired of the people who "want to make a bad situation worse"!

One guy who was really upside down on his trade said he wouldn't even look at a Mitsubishi. Beggars can't be choosers.

    Cheesh.

As a moderator who answers a lot of lease questions, I see this pretty regularly. While I try to get them to understand the ramifications of their decisions, I've learned over the years to just let it go and let the members shop for what they want.

The last couple of years, it's been a lot of "my last MB/BMW/Audi/xxx lease was $500/mo and now the same car is $800/mo! Waaahh!". Often I tell them they have to adjust their budget.

Hey guys, have decided to sell my 2007 Kia Optima LX with 150k miles. I'm the second owner. Have owned for 12 years. Has been a backup car for last 3 years. Exterior is rough (peeling and faded clear coat/ paint, scratches, dents). Interior is decent...needs cleaned. Has a few minor issues: a short in instrument cluster goes in and out), steering is stiff in turns, needs rear O2 sensor, CEL on, static on a.m channels, replaced 1 motor mount...needs another. So vibration at stoplights. Static on a.m channels. Visor broke...held in place by velcro. A/C works 95% of the time. Key gets stuck in ignition occasionally. Probably needs front tires balanced.

Pluses: Starts and runs good. Reliable. Maintenance records. Heater is excellent.

Just listed in our hoa web site yesterday. Got 2 nibbles. Curious as to what you think I am asking for the car? Whoever guesses closest

You guys don't forget anything.
So far you are the closest to winning that free backrub from jmonroe. I'll anounce the winner tomorrow morning.

I only listed my car on my hoa website... thus far. A mechanic asked about the cars "issues", when told said the motor mount part was hard to find. Said he'd check with his wife and get back with me. A lady texted and asked for more details. When I gave her more details, she said the price sounded fair, and she'd like to come test drive the car and buy it Friday or Saturday. Has to wait to get a ride from a friend. Sounds like a payment buyer? There is no "First National Bank of Jipster" though. Cash or certified check for that lovely beater.

Edit: The lady just texted she'd like to come see the car tomorrow at 1 or 2p.m. So, it's possible I may have underpriced the car a bit.

I chipped in a few zingers, got a warm reception and $1.25 thrown into my Sox hat I put at my feet for tips! At one point an older woman came in noting she thinks she needs new tires, owner Steve went out to review and they came back in agreeing she really did need new tires. She asked for recommendations; he said Michelin are overall the best tires and best company to work with. I exclaimed, "Now you tell me, after selling me Contis!" If only I had known about this "Michelin" brand before...

I asked Steve approximately how long to complete the tire job and state inspection. He noted 90 minutes; it took 90 minutes. Free treats, I went easy on him as it was my first visit.

He told me to rotate the Contis every ~6k miles, I asked how much to do so. Free lifetime rotation and one year road hazard warranty, if anything bad happens, free replacement. After one year, warranty will come into play but not to worry, he'll take care of things.

5 stars, I almost hate to trade the car now that I have a new friend.

Felt the same way when I recently bought tires at Discount Tires, for my Honda Accord. Ordered thru Tire Rack, and had them installed at Discount Tires, which owns Tire Rack now. Great service. Ordered the Vredestein Hitracs, which I've been really happy with.
