some of those cars are probably still trying to get onto the grand central.

Left side, Rambler wagon behind a 63ish Tempest.

Windshields blurred with rain. Those cars must have been sitting there for a long time.
    Engines off, windshield wipers off.

A 69 or 70 Cadillac in the 2nd row about half a dozen cars back.

It’s still amazing to see no imports or trucks/SUVs. But many large Cadillacs.

    @Michaell

I've just noticed your post of the London embassy .

that was a really smart building and I think it is listed for preservation

Your new one which was finished a few years back is very high tech with all sorts of security features and such like but it isn't in such a central location - next to the former Battersea Power Station - (now redeveloped into a huge development for shopping theatres etc.)

It is far more safe than the old site but less striking.

Oh the BQE! Those cars are probably still there.

I think that's a '65 Cadillac nearest the camera and a '64 Plymouth behind it.

NSU Prinz, a handful made it to the USDM back in the day.

On the BQE a distinct lack of foreign cars, I see only an apparent few. Maybe most identifiable is a possible Volvo 122/Amazon about 3/4 of the way back at R.

Per the source the intersection of Georgia and Commercial in Vancouver BC, February 1976, zooms fine:

far side, a 2 tone Mustang II behind a very early Corvair with the Buick looking roofline. Further up, one of those funky Mavericks with no bed.

I think I'm seeing a '73 Cutlass beyond the skinny '70s gal with the bell-bottom jeans and long hair on the left.

All of those '73 - '75 A-bodies from GM disappointed me with their return to single 7" headlights and the overall styling themes. I have never read a convincing explanation of how they came to be, whether a desire by Mitchell for a neoclassical theme, or GM bean counters cutting costs.

    A 1961 Pontiac Laurentian.
  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,467
As was noted, a ‘61 Laurentian, the Canadian equivalent to a Chevy Bel Air, one model above the Strato Chief (a Biscayne equivalent), and a level below the Impala-equivalent Parisienne. The narrow-track Cheviacs were mechanically identical to Canadian Chevy models but had Pontiac bodies and interiors.

I suspect the black on yellow "W" prefix CA plate dates from 1961-62, zooms fine:

@fintail yes the Armstrong Sidedly Star Sapphire was named after the jet engines that the Hawker Siddeley company made.

earlier Armstrong Siddeleys had a sphinx bonnet ornament but the Star Sapphire had two flanking jet engine nacelles

The NSU Prinz was sold here in reasonable numbers but the later ones - the Prinz 3 and 4 were more common

This one was registered in County Longford, Ireland

Love the combination of the Sphinx and jet engines.

I think we only got the early ones and the "Sport" - the ones that borrowed Corvair styling cues didn't make it here I think.

I will estimate that the MB is aan early 60s 220, and from the length of the badge I will guess that it is an SE. Close?

Looks right to me. By the registration year and trim it has to be a 220S or SE. Depending on how the image is toned maybe the same color as my car, or the shade darker.

Reminded me of our drives from Anchorage to Dawson City, a former gold mining town across the border in Canada. Beautiful but occasionally rough drive.

58 Ford wagon and a 58 Chevy . Renault Dauphine approaching?

  • bhill2bhill2 Member Posts: 2,615
That doesn't look like a Dauphine to me. Could it be a Panhard Dyna?
