... Nice little vehicles. The color is good for a Buckeye boy and it's a GLX .. the miles are just a little on the high side, we got a slider, auto, toys and that V6 is a lot of help ..
As long as it's as clean as you say it is, no Mcdonalds invasions, no little ladies at the Dayton malls using your vehicle for bumper practice, then on a trade you should be seeing in and around the $14's ...
... Whooof, another hi-miler .. doesn't anybody use planes, trains or cabs anymore.
It's an 01 with lot's of miles .. but we have an auto, the power pack, new tires, dbl cab, V6 and "hopefully" it needs -0-
If I read your profile right, your from the Crimson Tide area .. well if it still looks like it has 10/15k, no lumps, bumps or artichokes growing in it, then trade side you might be seeing the $15's, if you were living up north, you would be looking at the $14's, 2Wd's don't sell well come the white stuff. .. down Retail Rd, $17,5 and let some "Bama boy" buy it for $16,5/$17,0 ..
Yeah I know its alot of miles. I live in the DFW area and mass transit is not an option for me considering where I live and drive to every day for work. Also I need my vehicle during business hours for my job. I drive 80 miles round trip daily just for work and that doesn't include any additional business miles that I drive for work occasionally.
I think I'm just going to keep my vehicle. It's paid for, runs well, been kept up well, and it's paid for (did I mention that already?).
The next few years seems to have alot of exciting vehicles coming down the pipeline. I think I'm going to keep this Toyota until diesels become more popular for Light Trucks (2006??). By that time I'll have close to 150,000 miles on my Toyota and hopefully can still get $7000-$8000 for it from a kid who wants to jack it up and what-not.
1995, very clean, green, looks great, real piece of crap after you get used to it. This car can't fall apart fast enough but it looks like a million dollars. Comfortable, lots of power, not a dent or scratch in sight. Eats a radio every 20k miles.
Edmunds says $4400. I say $4000. Is that reasonable? Should I go for a new radio before I trade?
Well.... since you asked for comments, thought I'd give one: $32K??!! For a Chrysler Minivan??!! Good Grief I had no idea they were that expensive. What? And not even AWD?
Personally, for my money, I'd get the quicker, better mileage, better handling, and (my opinion) much better looking MPV fully loaded with every option they offer and even save a couple grand.
but, hey, not to debate. Just my comments. Good luck.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
Ummm since that T&C is already more than a year-old and 2003's are being sold NOW for $32,000, it's more than reasonable to exspect nothing more than the $28-29,000 range for basically a Demo year-old car.
$32,000 for a car that has a trade-in (kbb 2002 trade-in) now of $21,700 is rediculous. Right off the bat you've lost $10,300 driving off the lot.
So if you go for the 2002, get the price about 3,000-$4,000 lower. But for $32,000 you COULD get a new 2003 no problem.
.... These are kinda slick, I drive a few every year, til I burn myself out. l.o.l.
This one has nooo miles, the "mellow yellow" color seems to be very popular right now .. so of it's like new, on the trade side your looking at the $13's .. might see $14 IF, it's puuurffect and a "baby doll" ...
... Hmmmm, lot's of these rolling around .. this one has 87 big klicks and it's no-sale green.
Well, if it's has no or few parking lot kisses, service is all there, the interior has managed to escape the food, dog and the canary fights, then you should be looking around that $4ish figure on a trade ..
I agree with Dave, spend the money on a - Pre-owned 02 Limited for $25ish or a New 03 for that $32ish figure .. the end of the year is here and ALL dealers are looking to beat out the tax man by Jan 1st.
What ..? - did you lose your Delta miles in a crap game .? man o man o man ...
I hope your living north of the Mason/Dixon line, it's black .. anyway, it's an LT with all the stuff and it better be "jam-up" perfect, knee deep in rubber and glow in the dark .. if so, you might be seeing $13/$14 on the trade side. If it looks and drives like it been shot at and hit, then start deducting ...
Me personally, I would drop this puppy on Ebay AND the Largest paper in your area with a Big, Fat, Five liner, have it detailed and all the service records sitting on the front seat, I would start it $17,900 and let the nice Doorman at the Ritz-Carolton take it home for $16/$17,5 ... whoooof, 110k. Next time, get a blow up doll.
I really enjoy reading your commentary and insights. I have someone interested in my car, so I would like your opinion.
1996 Mercedes-Benz E320 Smoke Silver (gold/beige to the rest of us) with Tan leather Just rolled 60K this afternoon ALL service records from new at the same local dealer - serviced regardless of cost at the same MBZ dealer($55 oil changes and all...) Second owner (local car, as I mentioned, sold new at my local dealer who did all the service) Only one TINY (VERY TINY) ding on rear Qtr Panel. That and one back seat floor mat that is a little discolored are the only major blemishes. New brakes and rotors last month. New battery just this morning. (Cold weather!) Good tires (father-in-law in the business...) CD Changer and all the stuff you expect (slider, etc.)
Also, this car still has 15 months of MBZ Starmark Warranty left on it - so it still carries a full factory/dealer warranty.
Drives and runs great - still gets a lot of compliments (the car, not me!)
Located in central Ohio. What do you think I could sell it for?
.... If you didn't like me before, your going to like me less now .l.o.l..
Oh No .! -- not the "tire pressure monitor thingy" .. (actually this is a great feature), well this one has the V8, slider, auto wipers, the miles are~ ok, bun warmers, tow pack, 4x4 seems like all the stuff and it's a great color combo .. on the trade side your lookin' at that $23ish figure from those Columbus dealers ..
If you decide to go to the dark side and enter Retail Rd, then $26,9 in the Dispatch and let one of the Buckeyes take it home for $25,5/$26,5 ...
... Can't tell much from your description , premium pack .? nav.?
What color is it and where do you hail from ..?
Let's say it has no-paint work, tires are deep, interior is looking like 25k, a dime kiss here and there, service is 110% and your from the Carolina's and it's gold. Miles are way stiff, but not for an Acura ..
Trade side, you should be in and around the $6's .. a great vehicle for Retail Rd (if it's super clean) for $9,900 and $8,5/$9,5 rolls it down the driveway.
My buddy traded in his '01 Navigator this past weekend. It took me a little coercing to get him to check out the Accord(he was set on a Camry(w/o test drive), and I just told him to give the others in the same price/size a fighting chance) Well, I guess he just really liked the Accord, 'cause he come driving up in an '03 Accord EX V6. Niiiice. I'm Jealous. =o) Not too shabby deal, he got in the 28k ballpark on the trade(he only owed like 18k) and "stole" the Accord for a hair under 26k including 7/100 B2B, and about 500 in dealer add-ons(mud guard, sunroof wind deflector, wheel locks, etc) I think he actually got it for about 25ish from the financing numbers he told me, but he's happy, and I'm jealous (compared to my EX 5MT Accord) but glad he's happy, he thanks ya for the info too, really gave him an idea of the "real world value" =o)
.... Hey Keith .. seems like a lot of Buckeyes have been posting here in the last couple of days.
I guess your just gettin' ready to sell off all your stuff - ya know, with Miami taking the Buckeyes to the cleaners coming up .l.o.l..
Ok, so lets take a look see .. 1 small Itsy, Bitsy kiss, it's a great color combo with the tan guts, based on what you have told me, the service is perfect (and then some,) double nickels for an oil change.? - they loooove you .!
If the seats look like they have been "hovered in", has no miles for the year, you got the Star Wars warranty, plus we have tunes and can see the view at night .. actually, this sounds like a nice one.
I buy these nice ones for around that $15/$16 range at the auctions, so if I was going to retail it, I would be asking $19,900. Then maybe let that cute little Cheerleader at Ohio State slap me silly for $18,5/$19,5 ...
..... Hey, no problem .. it did real good both ways. Got all the money for his vehicle, and rocked their world on the Honda .. that makes for a nice Xmas ...
Ok, went and drove the little Escort yesterday, its nice, not perfect, but nice. Things I noticed that were wrong.....driver's side automatic seatbelt is stuck in the track, needs a blower motor (or I need ear plugs), rear defrost doesn't work, and of course the cracked rear bumper and the very dented front fender. Oh, add to that its a smoker's car.....eeeewwwww. Runs perfect, has no mechanical problems, clutch is great, knee deep in rubber. Sooooo, made a deal on it and going in on Tuesday to finalize it.
How'd I do.......1994 Ford Escort GT, green/gray, 2 dr, 5-speed, pwr mirrors, a/c, NO stereo, 99,631 miles, asking price $2495......my price OTD, with tags and title, $1630. Do I go to my room or did I do ok?
Just got a new '03 Accord LX w/ 5sp. Nice car, great deal, 100's below invoce.
Now I've got my old car: '97 Contour, base model, not even a GL. No pwr windows, no AC, 5sp, White, and 99K miles.
Thought of keeping for my kid who'll get license in 1.5 yrs but it would cost me $500/yr just in insurance (just liability, no collision). So I'm going to try to get rid of it.
This is in the NE. What do you think I should ask for in the local papers? What do you think I'd get for it?
Heck, I'm wondering if I should give it to a charity just for the tax deduction. That route they don't put a price on it, just give you a receipt and let you determine fair value for the IRS. If under $5K don't need an appraisal. Maybe I could take a $4500 tax deduction. Think that would be too far out of wack?
... Yikes .. it's a handshaker, it's the 4 banger, no power package, no breeze, a ton of miles .. well, with a detail, a service, some deep rubber you can ask $2,9 and anything from $1,500 ++ takes it home.
i'm new to edmunds so please bear with me on this one.
i managed to sell my '91 318iC bimmer and i am now looking for a newer 3 series but no convertible for me anymore:-)
my friends uncle's friend has a dealer license and after talking to him he said that he could go to one of the wholesale auctions in this area and find me like a 93 3 series for some pretty decent money. alot less than what a dealer would charge me.
my questions is what should i expect for like .. lets say a '93 318(*might consider a 92 if in good condtion but im trying to go for the '93) coupe (i think it's the 318is but i am not sure about that). i want a manual tranny and the car shouldnt have more than maybe 120,000 miles. and should be in good condition ... and it should definitelly have the leather interior).
btw i live in san jose, CA.
as i said earlier im new to this board so if you need more details in order to give me a better estimate please let me know and i'll try to be more specific.
How much should it be for a car with 20k miles, ex. rental, premium package, cold weather package, and standard wheels? I expected it to be around $19-20k. But the dealerships I went to today asked for those cars $26-29k (new one costs less!) and did not want to bargain at all... Location: San Jose, CA.
Terry, thanks for your valuation on my yellow Jeep Wrangler. I don't know why you do this service or how you are able to keep up but you have my appreciation. As for the numbers...I think I'll keep it. At first I was very unsure about yellow (why did I buy it then? that's a long story) but it is growing on me. Thanks again!
......of a '98 Dodge Intrepid (non-ES) with 62K miles, CD, power moon roof, and ABS brakes? I probably don't want to know these numbers (they're probably gonna suck), but thanks.
...since the vehicle in question was a Chrysler minivan, I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess it's kind of a 'hunter' (dark) green; the limey wasn't offered in those minivans. I think the 'no sale' basically refers to any green now; greens (especially that hunter) were big in like '94-98, now the silvers/grays/beiges/golds seem to be the trend, with black and white 'always acceptable', depending on the climate. But I digress, the color issue is another topic altogether.
As an aside, I like the pumpkin color (at least someone over 25 would be 'caught dead' in it, as opposed to the goofy lime), but I'd hate to be the one holding it at resale time.
Hey, I am pretty new to the Edmunds forum community, but have been a long time user of the website for reviews and specs on cars. I am trying to purchase a 2002 civic SI and want to trade in my 1998 Honda Civic EX coupe and wondered what you feel I could get for it. It is an automatic with 65k miles. It has a lot of extras added on including the 14" Honda alloy wheels, tinted windows, splash guards, moonroof visor, rear spoiler and Honda 6 disk cd changer and tape cassette as well as other addons. I believe the windows have been VIN etched and the car comes with an after-market security system with remote starter and keyless entry. It also has an AEM short ram air intake and Apexi WS exhaust, which both can be removed as I have the original parts that came with the car. I am the second owner of the car and the original owner stated that it has every factory option he could get besides ABS brakes. The body is not in the best condition, but not bad. The paint shines like new (it is metallic green), but the front bumper has a crack on the bottom, the sides of the car have a few dings including 1 small 2-3" scrape that was accomplished by a shopping cart on a windy day. It seems that dealers are not interested in the after-market parts and was also wondering how much you feel I should ask or could get for it if I sold it privately. I live in CT.
Terry, I'm considering a '98 Ford F-150 Lariat 50th anniversery, 4WD, 5.4L, power everything, leather, loaded, extended cab, 70k miles, automatic in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition, white, tires have good rubber,in Pennsylvania. I'm looking to buy it from the original owner who has all the service records. The truck has had one very minor fender bender which has been professionallly repaired. Can you tell me what a fair price for the buyer and seller is?? If I can find the same truck on a lot, what should I expect to pay for it?
..... This depends on a lot of things, what auctions does he attend, how much are you looking to spend, does he know imports ..
Just cuz' someone can get into auctions doesn't mean they know what to do when they get there. l.o.l. I would guess the Bay city auction might serve you the best or if you don't mind the drive, Riverside.
But anyway, a nice, clean 93 318IS with 60/80k will run around the $5/$6ish area ...
.... The rentals are doing "around" that $20ish figure at the auctions .. so, figure by the time they get them home with transport, auction fee's, service, a little this and a little that there going to have around $21ish in it ..
They gotta make a profit, so figure you are going to spend around $23ish .. were did you arrive at $20.?
.... Sorry it wasn't the #'s you might be looking for, they have big rebates, 0%, free trips to Tibet and a "Partridge in a pear tree" too move em' .. but still, they are nice vehicles and they sell well.
...... I know that color your talking about on the VW, I hung myself in one of those back in May, I flat lost money on that color, I couldn't get blind people to buy it ..
But the "no sale" green color is that dark polo/hunter green color, everyone has it, every Seville, Buick, Camry, Van, etc, seems to be that color and they are Plentiful and a little hard to sell .. Ghulet did a great explanation of the colors.
See, it seems the market is going through this color faze - copper, bright yellow, cobalt blue, tangerine orange, yatty yatty yatty .. I agree, that copper color is tuff on the eyes, so is the CTS l.o.l. ~ but, I just bought a 03 H2 Hummer in YELLOW for a friend, and I have to admit I DO like it .. of course I'm a little whacked anyway.
this guy is doing it on a regular basis ... i mean thats what he does for a living.
the thing is wanna leave room for his profit but in the same time im not willing to get ripped off if you know what i mean.
so assuming he knows what hes doing and assuming im only willing to spend $6-6500ish and lets say he gets $500-$1000 profit what kindda miles should i expect with the manual tranny?
.... Kinda keep in mind, the Condition and the miles reflect the cost of the vehicle ..
So lets say it's a Nice one .. 60/80k, deep in rubber, interior is "stand tall", little or few kisses, service is 90%, looks and shows like a 99, you should be spending in that $6ish range on the vehicle at the block, but there might also be a nice clean 100/110k one rolling around and that might be had for a lot less, you just never know .. a $500/$1,000 kicker is fair to him, considering you just saved $2,000++ ...
Ok, it's a coupe, no help there .. it's an auto *thank God*, it has some miles, so no help there .. your right, all that aftermarket stuff is a loser for a dealer or any seller as a rule. On a trade, you are looking at the $6's --
If you go down Retail Rd, then $8,9 in the paper and $7,5/$8,5 drop kicks that puppy off your driveway ...
We have our 2000 Civic SI 5-speed coupe in the local auto trader here in atlanta for $14,000 and haven't gotten a call all week .... are we contenders for the "dream on prices" award? It has 36,000 miles, non-smoker, sunroof, cruise, keyless w/ alarm, CD, and new tires.
...... Good question .! ---- Can you tell me what a fair price for the buyer and seller is?? If I can find the same truck on a lot, what should I expect to pay for it?
It's a 98, it's a Ecab, 4x4, the 5.4 V8 Lariat with 70klicks (waaay high for the year) .. if this gent was going to trade it, he would be looking at the mid to high $12's .. I feel a fair price for you and him would be around the high $13's, maybe a tinge into the $14 range ..
It's 4x4 season, it's snowing and you live in PA, so dealers will ask all kinds of crazy numbers - but, it's also "tumble weed" time, and dealers are looking to move some sheet metal before the end of the year .. I gotta think dealers have them advertised for $15++ ..
I hope this helps ...
Terry.
PS- (you didn't hear it from me, but he can also show you only paid $12 for it and save ya some money) - but you never heard that from me.!
I am planning to trade in a '99 Yukon SLT 2wd w/ 68K miles, dealer maintained, ex cond on a 2003 Yukon. I will be doing an internet deal and am interested in what kind of trade value I might expect to get in the Mississippi gulf coast area?
could you help bottgers out in post #10026. I sent him over here from lease question to gain from the sage's wise advice. You provide a great service hear and love those one liners.
Bottgers,
Help terry out and provide color, interior/exterior condition and location it makes his job easier.
.... Sorry Bottgers I missed you, obviously Mr. Clpurnell has brought this to my attention ... where was he in the last Presidential election, I missed that one ya know ...
All righty then, we have a slider, got some miles going on here, it's a base, no infinity, no leather, no chromes and a bunch of miles ... on the trade side, might see the high $3's, might see $4 if it's a Real Clean one ..
Down Retail RD - $6,900 and $5,9/$6,5 makes it go away ...
Hey, I don't like flying.....& yeah, I know the miles are high, but the burb is in excellent condition, with a moonroof and quad seating to boot......thanks again.

I buy these nice ones for around that $15/$16 range at the auctions, so if I was going to retail it, I would be asking $19,900. Then maybe let that cute little Cheerleader at Ohio State slap me silly for $18,5/$19,5 ...

Now I've got my old car:
'97 Contour, base model, not even a GL.
No pwr windows, no AC, 5sp, White,
and 99K miles.
Stereo's are a dime a dozen nowadays, so that's no biggie .. hey, you don't get much today for $2 grand, but you got a whole bunch for $1,600.!

i managed to sell my '91 318iC bimmer and i am now looking for a newer 3 series but no convertible for me anymore:-)
my friends uncle's friend has a dealer license and after talking to him he said that he could go to one of the wholesale auctions in this area and find me like a 93 3 series for some pretty decent money. alot less than what a dealer would charge me.
my questions is what should i expect for like .. lets say a '93 318(*might consider a 92 if in good condtion but im trying to go for the '93) coupe (i think it's the 318is but i am not sure about that). i want a manual tranny and the car shouldnt have more than maybe 120,000 miles. and should be in good condition ... and it should definitelly have the leather interior).
btw i live in san jose, CA.
as i said earlier im new to this board so if you need more details in order to give me a better estimate please let me know and i'll try to be more specific.
thank you,
John
Just curious but why do you refer to it as "No sale Green"? Or is it just that particularly noxious VW Beetle Lime-Puke green color is that bad?
I'm shocked Cadillac is selling those CTS's in that UGLy Pumpkin color. And yes, that's ugly with a capital UGL.
As an aside, I like the pumpkin color (at least someone over 25 would be 'caught dead' in it, as opposed to the goofy lime), but I'd hate to be the one holding it at resale time.
Terry.
They gotta make a profit, so figure you are going to spend around $23ish .. were did you arrive at $20.?
Terry.
Terry.
Terry.
the thing is wanna leave room for his profit but in the same time im not willing to get ripped off if you know what i mean.
so assuming he knows what hes doing and assuming im only willing to spend $6-6500ish and lets say he gets $500-$1000 profit what kindda miles should i expect with the manual tranny?
im guessing around 90-100,000 miles?
am i right?
So lets say it's a Nice one .. 60/80k, deep in rubber, interior is "stand tall", little or few kisses, service is 90%, looks and shows like a 99, you should be spending in that $6ish range on the vehicle at the block, but there might also be a nice clean 100/110k one rolling around and that might be had for a lot less, you just never know .. a $500/$1,000 kicker is fair to him, considering you just saved $2,000++ ...
Terry.
Terry.
I will be doing an internet deal and am interested in what kind of trade value I might expect to get in the Mississippi gulf coast area?
thanks, George
could you help bottgers out in post #10026. I sent him over here from lease question to gain from the sage's wise advice. You provide a great service hear and love those one liners.
Bottgers,
Help terry out and provide color, interior/exterior condition and location it makes his job easier.
Happy Hollidays!
&nbs- Terry :-))
