Anyway, Mathias brings up some good points .. can be a little rust prone, but the engine is a tuff one to wear out, 150k++ properly serviced - so, no click click in the 4WD, ecab, XLT, kinda clean, no nuclear reactors in the bed, tires are deep, pretty straight ol' truck .. dealer "might" have $2,5/$3,0 in it .. I would think $4,900 would be all of it ..
Terry.
Terry.
Here's the bad news: it's black in Hotlanta, it's a handshaker (all in your favor) .. we have cold air and a radio - it's a base Ecab, right ..? not a SLT .. ?
Have it checked out and if all is well .. then the dealer might have $3,5/$4,0 in it, sounds like double nickels to me on the retail side ... this might work out to be a nice vehicle for you if the price is right and the maintenance has been 100% ..
Let me know ..

1993 Audi S4 sedan, 130k miles
Dark "no-sale" green over tan leather
Clean Carfax
5cyl turbo engine, manual tranny
Looks to be in good shape, no paint work, no dents or visible scratches, fairly new rubber.
Well-cared-for 11-year-old car.
What be the numbers? [No, I ain't gonna buy it, but my neighbor just did and plans to sell it on ebay, so it aroused my curiosity]
Also, I told y'all about a lady at work who got her car totaled by a shop, then the shop wanted to get paid. Ins co. acutally paid them $500 so they'd release the vehicle and the mechanic's lien.
This one was a heartbreaker, cuz she only got $1500 or so for the car:
1991 Mitsubishi Galant, 4cyl, manual transmission, white, good shape, clean, taken care of, one-owner car with:::: 40k miles. What the heck is something like that worth???
And, while we're at it, I'm gonna buy -- if I get the chance, my friend Guenther is dragging his heels -- a dark red 1990 Corolla DX wagon. Manual transmission, of course. 80k one-owner miles, clean, good-looking car. AC and not much else -- roll-up- windows etc. Motor-mouse seat belts - yech. Been trouble-free, should prolly get timing belt done. What's it worth on a trade/on the street/between a couple ex-pat Germans?
Thanks in advance, Terry!
-Mathias
Got offered $5500 (ACV) for it at Cal Worthington, but they won't come down on the price of the 96 Blazer that I liked.
Mechanic at the shop said that I HAVE to fix the brakes before I leave, no choice there, they are hammered.
What to do?? $$$$ is very limited, I didn't expect repair bills before I left. Darn vehicles anyway.
Having the truck checked out tomorrow. It's a Sport if that means anything.
Can pick it up for $5500 OTD. Carfax is clean and it's a one owner. Will see what the inspection looks like and go from there.
Check the VIN or the door jamb sticker and figure out when the silly thing was built... a "1997" could have been born anywhere between late November 1995 and June 1997 or thereabouts, that's quite a spread.
They have trouble with a crack opening in the metal of the front window frame, and piston slap in some of the V8s, which were a brand-spanking new design.
Friend of mine has a '99 ECab and was very surprised when a ball joint in the steering linkage came off -- in his driveway, not at 75 on the freeway. This was in '02, with 45k on the clock. HE ain't buying another Ford...
Still, they're nice trucks, 800,000 buyers a year ain't ALL wet...

I listed an ad in the local daily -- Noting that it was in good condition, one owner, clean $5,900 -- obo. Bolded it (ouch -- total add was more than 80$!).
About 4 days in got two calls. Gentleman showed up that evening and looked at it, drove it, offered $4,500, bought it. Delivered it to his home that night.
Thanks Terry -- your advice is like money in the bank (and the money is in the bank).
Now all I have to do is wait the two more weeks or so until the new MINI arrives.
The 01 is a little better color .. is it a trade-in ..? dealer probably has $19,0 and some change in it, so you
"should" be able to buy it for the high $21, low low low $22ish zipcode ..
Terry.
Not bad for a strippy 4 banger, got no toys, no-sale green Caravan ...! that's another $2 grand in the "Hip National Bank" You did good .......! reeeal good ..!
$80 bucks for the ad .. l.o.l. I wouldn't be losing sleep over that one ..
Terry ;-)

You hit the '01 Odyssey EX dead center. I saw two nearly identical twins the last two days. Both just under 40K miles, great but not perfect condition. One even had a 4" wide ding on the rear quarter. Both gray, nothing extra. One asking 23.9K other 22.9K and both looking for 22K+. Course both said they had nearly 22K in them... yeah right. I'll have to pass on the dealer cars. I can't swallow the price on these slightly high mileage, obviously used, and out of warranty vehicles, when I can move to a brand spanking new one for about 5-6K more.
I'll be seeing the '00 Odyssey tonight. Damn, I was hoping for a bit more of a break on a private deal. You'd think these things were future 427 AC Cobra's the way they command top dollar. Simply amazing. I've been avoiding EBAY up til now, not crazy about the typically long distance and sight unseen aspects of the whole thing. May have to rethink that. An MPV is looking better all the time.
BTW, you also hit my trucks wholesale a few weeks back dead center. Every dealer readily and correctly points out that I should go private sale with it, and pegged it at around $3K wholesale and nearly double retail, just as you said.
Where is it garaged .....? Limited ..?
I had Lasik surgery, not 3D cybervision .......... killing me ..!
Terry.
Yep, they do Stupid Money .. I have bought just about every "type" "model" year of everything on the market .. the funny part is I have bought very few Ody's and very VERY few MDX's .. their re-sale is just too high for me to make any $$ on, so if I can't switch them to a Sienna or a Grand Caravan I send them to a dealer friend or I say go get one yourself .. this is great for the Honda/Acura dealers, an Ody that's $4,0 grand less is $75 a month less and most buyers are payment buyers, so they look new and go home in a used ..
Good luck on the search tonight and let me know ...
Terry
93 Audi S4: let's say it's a clean one, let's deduct for the color, the miles, the meat clever .. service is all there, no turbo coughs, garaged, been off the MI roads in the winter - ya know, just a real nice 10 year old S that's been taken care of .. it's worth about $7ish on a trade ~ $9,999 in the paper .. crazy .. ;-)
Terry.
thanks for your help

Sun Roof

8000 miles
Very Clean and in excellent condition
Bought it brand new in Dec'02
In NJ/CT area
Tks
Drove nice, had these dual exhaust tips that made it sound really beefy. They are asking $9,950. They "came down from" the original sticker of $10,500. I offered $7,500 with my target being the low 8's. The salesman said that they were into for about $9,950 and could not go lower. I said OK and left to go play tennis.
When I was starting my car to leave, he comes out and offers to split the difference b/c the truck has been around a long time. I said that $8,000 was all I wanted to spend b/c it had so many miles (I also wanted to go play).
I get back from playing 4 sets of doubles and 1 set of singles and find a message on my phone from him asking me to call him.
What should I do? I thought $8k might be a bit low, but they seem to really want to move this puppy.
Anyway Mr. Tennis Racket guy .. $8,5ish should be all of it -- XLT 4x4 that's good, Reg cab ho-hum, short bed with a reg cab, no biggie - now, if it was a reg cab with a looong bed then they could pound their chest for more $$ ..
Still blinded by driving my golf ball off the 3rd tee and hitting a tree, then bouncing back and hitting me in the eye ... Ouch.!!!
Terry :-))
Just got a new Subie and need to cut this one from the herd.
1995 Subaru Legacy L Wagon, AWD, Auto Trans, Anti-lock brakes, Dark Blue, 120k miles, extra set of tires (snows), tires have 50% tread left, located near West Point, NY. Car is in fair condition (a ding here and there), service is up to date, AC is cold, car runs great. Figured it would be better to sell this privately rather than trade in.
Has one more trip to the airport (going over to the Open…) before it sells, then will get it detailed. What should the asking price be, and what should I take? With the AWD any point in waiting till the fall, or is it more likely departing student will want it?
Thanks - dh
Split the difference referred to my offer of $8,000 and there sticker of $9,950 which would have come out to about $9,000.
Kelly Blue Book, which this dealer likes to stick in every window, says a trade-in value of about $5,000 and a retail asking price of just under $10k. So I figure "splitting the difference" and buying for $7,500 sounds pretty good.
Thanks for your input!!!
I don't think my truck is going to make the trip, the heat is taking a toll on it, its overheating and needs a bunch of work before I can leave.
Anyway, the dealer is asking $6995 for the Jeep, haven't talked price yet, but I do know he's offering $5000 for my truck.
I hate all this, but the unexpected stuff with my truck is gonna kill me before I can even leave.......needs about $1500 in repairs to be safe again.
So, what's fair for everyone here? I know the dealer just put $2k into the Jeep in repairs, course if it don't check out then I'm done looking, nobody wants my truck and I can't get any interest selling it on my own, its a niche vehicle really.
From the frying pan into the fire!
Those JGC's are known for lots of problems. they have electrical, brake and rear end problems as a start. They do not age well. As the miles pile on they can become money pits.
Gas mileage? Forget it.
And, where you are going, you would never need or use 4 WD.
Why didn't you like that Corolla?
I've been outta the loop a while. The new car deals (at least in the paper) look plentiful. I assume the used car market must be same/same. They both have clean credit and good income to qualify for good rates either way. They've got 3k for a down and could do $400 a month (but less would be nice). Any thoughts?
The market for Chevy's is very, very, very soft up here, twice as bad for 454's. Basically you pull into a lot in a Chevy truck and watch everyone run for cover........nobody wants them.
Guess I screwed myself over big time this time, stuck myself with a very undesirable vehicle, at least its paid for I guess.
As for the Jeep, I've always had good luck with them, but this one is questionable and I wouldn't do it unless it was a really good deal which I doubt is gonna happen.
There are good points to that big truck of mine, everyone gets the heck outta the way, if someone hits it they are gonna know they hit something, and its powerful enough to pull anything.
I wish you all of the luck in the world! Mark
High mileage doesn't faze me, but it does faze me that I might be buying a headache.
I can keep the truck and once I cross the Alaska border its mine forever, gonna have some fun with it in Texas, lift it, chip it, use it for a weekend play toy.
Course that would mean that I would have to spend $2k on a car when I get down there........guess its not the end of the world and as long as I can live with the truck for a couple months to save some money I can probably get something decent and economical to drive.
So let me start it off for ya.
good used buys (meaning somewhat reliable and have taken a hard hit in depreciation already):
Mazda Tribute
Saturn Vue
Isuzu Rodeo, Trooper, or Axiom
good new buy:
Honda CRV (the new style is great and buying used is not worth it)
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
I saw the Ody last night. Just to refresh, dark Green, 32K, AM leather (no heaters though), private sale. Latest info, orig tires (25-30% left), several minor blemishes including scuffed rear bumper, scratched ext mirror housing, small (1" wide) indentation on frt pass door. Otherwise paint good, interior intact, whole car needs cleaning (you'd think owners would get it detailed to maximize value), everything works. Passed test drive with flying colors.
Carfax shows accident report that coincides with valet misshap owners told me about, car was basically new (5 days old... ouch). I'm in process of verifying paperwork to support claim it was only cosmetic work (door replacement most likely) to side door. Car shows no other signs of anything amiss.
They asked $20.5, I offered $17.8, we settled on $18. Assuming the accident report, ins clain, honda repair shop all verify the door scrape, do you think it's reasonable or should I be pushing for better since it does show up on the Carfax? How much of a hit on value does a Carfax entry usually entail if the vehicle shows and drives no worse for the wear?
How much do you think I sell my 1992 dark red Accord LX sedan automatic with 204,000 miles for to a private party?

$18 is a great price for these .. Dooo have that door checked out .. a little kiss with touch here and there ain't no biggie, make sure it rolls right, no rattles over big bumps - a pro with a accurate Elco can tell you how much was done ... $500 is not a bad thing, $2,500 is.
Thel: Your getting to be a veteran on this stuff, so you know the drill, good maintenance records, can't see the air in the tires, no rusted wiper blades and it doesn't look like Shamu has been sitting in it .. $2,900 in the paper ~ first cash buyer with a pulse $1,8/$2,5 .. by the way, $8 was the figure, did a great job on that one ..
I printed 2 different posts only 1 came out .. must be because of my terrible injury with me and my golf ball .l.o.l.. It was funny, you just had to be there, I wish I wasn't ..
I would wish you luck, but you seem to be doing fine all by yourself ...

The funny thing is, 02 EX V6's are doing the ultra high $18's, low $19's with 7/10k ~ I wonder if Honda made the right move changing that body style .. hmmmm.

00 Lex GS300, all options + nav, black/black, 20k, SF Bay Area.
You said $25ish on trade. Lexus dealer offered $25.2. Wow, nice shot!
Infiniti really did NOT want this car -- lowballed @ $22...Maybe they're just too used to their resale values
That puts me slightly upsidedown on the lease buyout, so I'm just hangin' on til Nov. I'll just have to pine after the G35coupe til then...
BTW, noticed the prices on similars are falling rapidly over the past couple of months (even the dealer retails have dropped $1k-$2k in the past 30-60 days). I assume it's a combo of continuing incentives, a flooded used market and 04's about to hit the road.
Thanks again!
