Thanks much.
I have an '01 granite green Odyssey EX that will be coming off lease in February. I am way low on miles, just 25,000 at this point. No NAV (which was the only option at the time). I'm assuming you're familiar with the van, but the EX has power everything, including two power sliding doors. It has a few scratches, but no accident damage. How much is it worth?
I was chastised for not adding information about the tires, windows, and interior. It's all fine. The van only has 25,000 miles, so the tires are great. No problems, dings, replacements, etc. with the glass. And the interior has the usual wear and tear on the plastic surfaces around the doors and openings, but the rest is fine.
"The van only has 25,000 miles, so the tires are great."
At 25,000 miles, I've seen cars and trucks on their second set of tires or badly in need of replacement. I've seen tires worn out at 15,000 miles - never assume that because mileage is low, everything is perfect. A $500 set of tires makes a difference in trade value.
Usual wear and tear on the interior of a 25,000 mile vehicle? What's "usual"? That leaves a lot to question since my new car has 30K on it and there's not a mark or scratch on the interior (or exterior). I've seen cars with 10,000 miles that looked like the kids went through the Mickey D's drive-thru for ammunition for the food fight, plus the dog hair - can't forget the blanket-like covering of long white hair from the Alaskan Malamute that goes EVERYWHERE with you - get the point?
Terry is a great guy, works his tail off 16-18 hours a day, and posts 30-40 posts a day here for free - just trying to help him help you.
A buddy is looking at one that can be bought cheap, but it's pushing 200K.
Looks and runs great.
Ford has sold more diesels than Dodge in total volume, but the Cummins has a following on the level of Harley-Davidson. DC reports that 75% of all Ram 2500/3500 trucks leave the factory with the straight-six oil burner, and the Ram/Cummins owner is the most loyal of all the Chrysler vehicle lines.

I'll drive that thing until it falls apart.
For what it may be worth, I have towed a lot of 33/36ft performance boats with these "fat daddys" .. the APBA guys, that's ALL they will use and they can buy A N Y T H I N G they want ... Cummins and Mercruiser, it's the only way to go.
Terry.
Did you see what happened at Arizona State .? ....
Terry.
I'm an old guy, did I see "no 4WD" ... ?
Speaking of nice trucks, this sounds like a nice one .. the big V8, Xcab SLT, ALL the stuff and then some, good color and nooo miles ... trade side and depending on the dealer, your going to be in and around the $16's, might could "maybe" see the high $16's ..
Total $17,865 -- $19,769 -- $21,842
The tall $17's ... ? maybe if you have the Pope's personal home phone number ... down Retail Rd, $19,900 is an "asking price" and $18,9/$19,5 get's it south of the driveway ..
Terry ;-)
How much of the HP comes from the Mintex Pads vs slotted brake rotors?
But seriously, nobody is going to pay extra for brakes on a trade or even a "smart shopper". Anybody with a catalog & a stamp can order the same brakes you did.
Ditto for the other "bolt-ons". With a car that is essentially an econo-sport you will probably do better trying to sell the bolt-on SEPERATELY. If you need to sell the vehicle simply restore it to "factory spec".
If you are simply wondering if your mods have increased the monetary value of the vehicle the simple answer is NO.
The more complex answer is IF (and it is very big if...) you can find ANOTHER enthusiast such as yourself they MIGHT pay you more for the car with the bolt-ons than you actually sunk into 'em (asssuming that you did a 1st Class job of making EVERYHTING look SPECTACTULAR) BUT there just are not that many Jetta "fans" ot there.
Sorry.
Jim
Terry.
If I were you, and I'm not .. I would wait til about 3/4wks before the lease is actually up (January right.?) .. at that time the lease co will look at the auction reports and re-evaluate what they are doing .. I have a stupid feeling you can sneak that one in for around $10ish with no payments, maybe less ..... did I get your info right, or did I get you mixed up with the Pastrami sandwich I just ordered .?
Nope, I guess not -- **have a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo LS 4WD, auto, red, 6 cd changer, 38k miles. My 39 month lease is up in January, and Isuzu LT has offered to sell me the car for $11,500 + the remaining 3 payments. Does this sound like a good deal?**
Thanks,
Adam

Any ideas on RWV for a 2002 Lexus IS300, silver, roof/leather, 25K, with a handshaker? Shifts too nice to call it a meat cleaver.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
would appreciate learning a fair price for trade-in. Thanks!!
Just wondering if dealers will not be willing to give me as much for it as they would if the mods weren't there and the car was stock...
Yes, I am trading in the sub 14-second 1/4 mile Jetta for something practical, a truck.
The thing is, 99% of buyers could care less about your chip and intake, and would worry that the car was beat to death because it has performance mods and you know, they saw "the Fast and the Furious" advertised and those boys were up to no good!
Remove and replace what you can, sell the stuff on ebay, and enjoy your truck.
But anyway, if this is a nice EX (Nav's are only worth a few hundred on a trade), deep rubber, no paintwork, no kisses, no wear or rips in the seats, no I dropped a 55 gallon barrel of coffee in the back and forgot to clean it up, no I let Grand Ma back it down the driveway and she slid the drivers door down 3 palm tree's and of course if the service is current, so if it's super clean and needs -0- ... then trade side, you should be seeing in and around the mid to high $19's, could get real lucky and see $20, the miles save it ....
I hope this helps ...
Terry.
Terry,
I'm in Nash Tn and have located a 99 LS 400 w/ 29,000 miles - 1 owner, good color (white pearl/tan) std options, w/all records, locally purch and serviced from Lexus dlr here - Asking 29,900, but says they'll look at anything above the 27,000 they can get at local auto auction.
Trying to compare this to a local Lexus CPO of same car, 99 white/tan, with 56,000 miles that has the Lexus CPO new car warranty for a full 3 yrs or up to 100k mi (3 yrs would catch me as I only drive 10k or less per yr)- Dealer asking 29,000 (can be bought for 28,500) - or will sell a 2000 of same exact car w/52,000 mi CPO for 29,900/29,500?
Your thoughts on real value, which and why? private sale vs dealer with more miles but cpo warranty, etc.) - Also, what would you exect in annual depreciation on this vehicle (99 LS 400)over next 5 yrs? - Thx in advance
Your thoughts
________________
Let me grab another cup of coffee for this one .. Oooookaaay, much better.
For starters, it's a Lexus and if it's had all the proper service, these things will last 150/200k for a quarter of the price of a Benz ..
The nice thing about Lexus is, you always have a broad market to sell too when you go to sell/trade it .. folks don't have the fear of a 80k Lexus as they do with a 80k Benz, Bimmer, etc.
So, now let's look at the prices .. we have a private(?) seller with a 99 LS with 29k, white with tan gut's ... and they are asking $29,900 and will "ponder" $27ish .. right.? - we also have a 99 LS 56ker with a CPO and they are asking $29ish, and may consider $28ish .. right.?
"IF" ~ both vehicles are identical, no hit's no runs no errors, no repaints, great history with Carsmack, super service history, if you can "feel" the love and they both "stand tall" .. then the better deal is the 29k LS .. $27ish is the right $$ deal, I doubt they will see that kind of $$ at the auction, more in that $24/$25 range, but the point is, they arent trying to hurt you on the retail price, it's a $29 asking vehicle, it "seems" like a Great deal .. so $27ish is really fair.
The LS with 56k ...? $28,500 ..? .. that's a great price if you are dating Dolly Parton .. it's a $20 grand vehicle, add the service, add the trip to Rio, add a this and that, add the CPO and you are lookin' at "around" $23ish "standing on the moon", a "fair" retail price on this dude is $26ish, maybe ...
Price is always nice .. but have them both checked out CLOSE, a touch here and there means nothing, but any K-Mart kisses that have seen months in the shop can mean everything ..
What's their value for the future ..? I really don't try to Guess the future of vehicles since Mathias kid has been using my crystal ball as a door stop .. but here is some food for thought, clean 97's with 50/60k are doing the $15's on the wholesale side, down Retail Rd they will see $19,0 ..
I'm tired now, time for my pre-nap ..
Terry
Thanks for all your help on this board. We found an exact match for a dealer swap out of San Antonio to get the Yukon that will be replacing the '00 Sierra. I will work the numbers Monday and see if it will work.
Jim
I would like to get out of the lease and buy a new Ford Focus ZX3. The monthly price of that should be lower than what my lease is now.
What should be the consideration here so my monthly payments will be less?
Thanks.
Edmunds lists this at around 13,500 trade-in, but I can't find a dealer in central Ohio that will give me more than 9K on trade. We're looking to buy a used Navigator at around 20K. My local BMW dealer isn't interested in buying, but has the exact same car with 20K MORE miles on his lot listed at 14,900.
What's a fair trade-in value on this one? Thanks all.
Terry
Ooop's let's back it up .. there's no such thing as an "Excellent 97 Anything" - unless, it has 10,000 miles, only driven on Sundays to that big church in Scottsdale (and that's only to the early service) seats been hovered in and stored in a garage with a 300pt Egyptian storing cover ... so let's get back to yours.
It's a 97 528i, it's in the land of the Buckeyes, it's silver in color and we have service pouring through it's veins .. so we have the right color, service is all there, auto, slider, hopefully new sneakers, no kisses, no drive by's -- and of course, those itty bitty 98,000 miles .. ouch.!
$9 grand "seems" about right based on your description .. if it's as clean as you say it is, it could "might" maybe be worth more towards the $10ish side, but I'm not lookin' at it ... $13,5 for a trade-in ... ? not in this part of the Galaxy, or any others that I'm aware of, the miles kill it .. $13,5 is a Retail "asking" price.
Sorry
Terry.
02, 25kish, el' manual, leather, slider .. trade side, there doing in and around that $21ish figure, you should be able to buy them for $24,9 or less ....
Terry.
Terry.
If the tires are newish, service is 100%, no repaints, no I used the interior for a paint ball contest, cold air, no click click in the 4x4 ... then trade side, in and around the $4's, if it's ultra nice, super clean, needs -0-, then it could roll into the $5's, if it needs stuff ~ start deducting ...
Terry.

* Saw a 2001 at the dealer. LS with everything, heated seats, leather, moonroof, black, 45K. Dealer refuses to budge on 14,5. What's up with that?
* Second -- hey b4z, where do you live and are you still trying to sell that car????
Thanks. Suka G.
That Chevy is killing us, we have dropped $3400 into it in the past month and its still cropping up with new problems. We just can't keep this up, so, what would be a good private party price to cut it loose at? We are in it so far that I just shrug and will chalk it up to a lesson learned.
Let's see, its a 1994 Chevy K3500, silverado pkg, reg cab, 6.5L TD, manual trans, 4x4, green/tan interior, pwr windows/locks, am/fm/cd, a/c (ice cold). Its in fair shape for its age and miles (150k). It runs excellent, but has its fair share of quirks. Its spent more time on a lift then in our driveway lately, its downtime is killing us financially since hubby can't get to the logging site very often.
I'm thinking around $6500, I'd like to be able to pay the Explorer off so we can buy a newer truck. No, not getting rid of the Explorer.
It's got the V6 (don't they all?) 27,000, white w/cloth, slider, CD, keyless, power driver's seat, in beautiful sunny Orlando. Dealer is asking 12,9. Whaddya think?

Over the last two or three years, I've read all the posts on this board. Over 15,000 of them. And I think you just took Best In Show for "worst description".
We'll need:
2dr or 4dr?
2wd or 4wd?
color?
interior; color & material?
transmission -- ok, prolly 4sp auto, but there are some 5sp sticks in the 2d.
condition -- looks like '02 is a start.. do you smoke? got a dog?
Quick, before you get sent to your room...
And good luck with your Subie.
-Mathias
Edit: You are not doing yourself any favors trading a domestic at an import store; these guys may not know how to properly price your truck... low miles should be a big plus. You might consider retailing it yourself, or at least clean it up and make the rounds of the bigger used-car operations in your area. It's a good idea to always have a Plan B.
Edited to add: Seattle, WA area
Thanks!
new at this: looking for a true trade in value on: '96 Nissan Pathfinder SE 4x4, auto, ac, leather/ heated seats, moonroof, cd, sat radio, wood grain, tow package + electric brakes, external spare,etc... garage kept, 128,000 miles -highway commuting
would appreciate learning a fair price for trade-in. Thanks!! ** ...
__________
You make it sound pretty nice .. so, let's just say it has new rubber, no rust, no repaints, no freedom fry's, no I rolled over every rock between Denver and Salt Lake, service is 120% and no click click in the 4WD ... trade side, you should be seeing in and around the tall $3's, could maybe "might" stretch into the $4ish range ... again, if it needs stuff, start deducting ...
Terry.

"Your in Kentucky, right.? .. not a bunch of these out, yet .. I gotta figure he paid $31/$32ish for it, service, CPO, this and that, probably comes to the table around $33/$34ish ...
What's he asking for it ..?
_______________________________________________
He had $36,990 on the windshield. It just came out in the paper on Saturday at $33,990. He seemed surprised at that (Really?? In today's paper???) But to be fair, even I was surprised the asking price was that low.. Thats why I stopped by. It looks like it stickered for about $39,500 new. He worked up numbers based on $33,990.... but, I wasn't buying that day, so who knows how much he would come down.. Doesn't sound like there is a lot more room down from that number.
