Friend of mine just sold an ok, one-owner, purple, 92 Taurus GL with 120k. It had some little problems, all disclosed, iffy heat, some recent front-end work, nothing to write home about... he got $1,500, or triple what I would have paid. These things are trouble at 12 years of age, and they're tough to work on.
God help the poor saps who are looking for cars in the sub-$2k market.
Fords are bad. I bought that 94 Escort for $1600 with 95k on it, drove the heck out of it and sold it for $900 at 105k. Good car. Bought my SIL a 1990 Taurus for $900 and here we are 13 months later and who knows how many thousands of miles, thing is still running great. There for a time it was running better than anything we had.
by the way, I'm still in shock over that T-bird. Considering what some of these classic cars go for, I can't believe there is something that beautiful that can still be had for under $20k. Maybe I should just save my money up for next year and take a trip out there myself.

If you look at the Mgf sticker in the door, it looks like it "could" "maybe" have been messed with on a repaint, just guessing ... or, it was owned by a little 'ol lady that drove it to church on Sundays ~ Or, it was owned 3 times, been to 1/2 auctions and been to 2 states, but then I would be guessing ... this doesn't make it bad, but I would be a little suspect on a black 99 that looks like a 03 in that area, but if it's a straight vehicle, no runs, no hit's, no errors, then the dealer probably has in and around the high $5's, low $6's in it, depending on when he got it ..

Sorry, I'm in Atlanta, GA. The car has had two owners. There are no mechanical problems. Still runs very well although someone may want to update the struts and give it a tune up. Mileage is high (164k), and the interior shows normal wear for a vehicle with as many miles, though nothing major.

on higher mileage cars, take edmunds with a grain of salt. its hard for Edmunds to judge high mileage cars without seeing them, and I haven't quite figured out how Edmunds can do that yet... but seriously, for an example, go back and put 100,000/140,000/160,000 and then 200,000 in the mileage, and you'll see that after about 140k+ miles, the value never changes.... something wierd there, huh? this one is going to be a prime candidate for Retail Road... Terry will throw ya a much more accurate price.

We have a 2001 Chevy Malibu, 26,800 miles, is the Standard 4 door model (read: not an LS), has power windows, locks and cruise.
The car is beige in color with cloth interior. (Couldn't be more rental car fleet with a miracle)
$7700 is full boat retail. Cars like these (base Malibus) are a dime a dozen and are in every rental car fleet in the nation. The same car would see $3500-4000 at auction...by the time you transport it, shop it, detail it, it's really a $5,000/5,500 car, in my opinion.
The warranty (Major Guard) has about a $550 cost - you be the judge on that one. If you get an extended warranty, the only way to go is GM - no hinky "Joe's Used Car Warranties and Shoe Repair" contracts.
Go sit in the corner and put the dunce cap on. Twenty four hours after you post and you start complaining about a free service. If Terry misses you , just repost . So simple even a preschooler could understand it. Sorry to interrupt the regularly scheduled programing but this guy was rude.
I had posted previously on 16867, 16886 & 16888. The dealer & I have agreed on a deal $36250 for their vehicle & $29500 for my Sequoia. So I guess I do not have to be patient anymore. Depending on the area, the rubber, the service records, the brakes, the paintwork, the color, condition and who your dating, then trade side it's probably worth in and around the $3's, the low $3's, maybe .. 164k, have you tried a different dating service.?
Thanks for everything...There's another 50k mile S90 near Chicago at a Lexus dealer (they're asking $11,988) that I think I'm gonna check out as well, in addition to the one at the Ford dealer. The toughest part of this whole process is convincing Mrs. Lance that this is a good idea- I just threw another $150 as an offering to the Volvo Gods for the 740 this week, which sadly is becoming a more frequent occurence. Maybe a couple more offerings might do it (of course, there's certainly no guarantee that the same thing wouldn't happen with an S90...I'll keep you updated.)

About to turn 136,000. The failures/repairs I've been seeing have been more age-related as opposed to mileage related.
Here's the complete rundown:
1989 Volvo 740 GL, non turbo 5 speed (!) Tan over black leather, 136k miles. The usual stuff like slider, plus an aftermarket Blaupunkt CD player. 5k on Bridgestones, all maintenance history since new. New-ish brakes on new Brembo rotors. Leather's in near-perfect shape, the dash and headliner, not so much. It's had paintwork (it was rear-ended before I owned it...not enough for a salvage title or even the Iowa damage disclosure statement; excellent repair, but the paint is starting to fade differently than the factory paint.)
HOUSTON TRAFFIC RULES FOR PEOPLE VISITING DURING SUPER BOWL XXXVIII, FEBRUARY 1, 2004 1. You must learn to pronounce the name of the city. It is "Hue-stun," not "Ewe-ston," and definitely not "How-ston." The street named San Felipe is pronounced "San fe-LEE-pay," not "San Fi-LEEP" or "San Fay-LEE-pee."
2. Forget any traffic rules you learned anywhere else. Houston has its own version of traffic rules. They are called "Hold On And Pray." There is no such thing as a high-speed chase in Houston. We all drive like that.

16. If you are in the left lane, and going only 70 mph in a 60 mph zone, the people who are passing you are not really waving at you.
17. If it is 100 degrees outside, then January 1st must be next weekend.
18. The Sam Houston Toll Road is Houston's daily version of a NASCAR race.
19. When in doubt, remember that all unmarked exits lead to the state of Louisiana.
20. Don't get on Main Street unless you really WANT to be on Main Street. Left turns and right turns are not allowed between the South Loop and Dallas (that's Dallas, Texas, not Dallas Street).
21. Don't get sick or injured. There are no parking spaces in the Texas Medical Center for anyone but doctors.
22. You don't have to wait for an exit to get off the freeways. Just follow the ruts in the grass to the frontage road like everyone else. This is how Houston residents notify the Texas Department of Transportation where exits should have been built in the first place.
