Can you tell me the trade in value for a 2002 S2000, red, 28,000 miles, clean and in excellent condition, in Dallas?
  • sbakersbaker Member Posts: 30
Yeah, I'm not sure how I'll handle the wheel situation. The aftermaket wheels are good quality 5Zigen's and look pretty sharp. But, I've heard often on these forums that aftermarket wheels add little or nothing to the value of a trade-in. They may even hurt it. I'd probably put which ever set of wheels on the car that the dealer wants and sell the others through one of the many Ody clubs. Of course, if I'm selling the stock wheels with winter tires, I would certainly wait. Folks around here always get the chunky tire religion when the first winter nor'easter comes a calling. Come to think of it, that's about the time I bought the tires last December ;)
  • driftracerdriftracer Member Posts: 2,448
are re-combine stock tires and wheels (if sizes match), selling the aftermarket wheels and snow tires separately - aftermarket wheels, unless 22" bling blings that cost $8k, don't do anything for value. Might as well get some of your money back.
  • sbakersbaker Member Posts: 30
    The 5Zigen's are plus one's.

........ V8 04's with "all" the popcorn, about a $50K MSRP, are doing in and around the $37/$38ish range with short miles like 2/4/6k .. the V6's with the same stuff and short miles are seeing around the $31/$32ish range ...

I dunno, a $13grand hit for a trip around the block seems a little stiff too me .. it could be worse, you could be driving a V8 Phaeton, there only seeing in and around the low low $50's, Yikes, thats a market they should have Never entered .l.o.l..

........ I'm glad I could help .. by the way, good description ..

Hmm, we may need to get you to few of the weekly "AA meetings" (Automobiles Anonymous) ...

EX 00 with 39k, we have the A/M leather, kick the special wheels and sell the snow blowers on the trade side .. if it's as nice as you describe it, then trade side in and around the low to mid $15's, might "maybe" get a dealer to waddle up to the $16 figure, but don't hold your breath ... down Retail Rd, $18,490 *asking* and consider it gone at $17/$18, now throw the tires in -IF- needed ...

01 Sport Trac with 22k.? .. factory hard tonneau cover, bed extender, power moon roof, side rails, looks show room inside and out .. sounds nice and it's got ALL the stuff .. 100 days old.? - dealer might have the super duper tall $16's in it by now, maybe even the low low low low low $17's if he jumped all over it 3 months ago .. call me silly, call me crazy but I have a funny feeling that $17,5/$18ish will get it home ................ :)

                        Let me know ...

                               Terry.

My mom FINALLY got a new(er) car. She called me at 3 pm wanting me to come look at a couple used cars for her. One was a 2002 Taurus wagon, I told her immediatly to pass. The other was a very clean 2002 Subaru Legacy L wagon, VERY nice car.

So good old Amelia is finally gone.....wow, never thought I'd see that day. Amelia is a 1996 Chevy Cavalier base 2dr, auto, blue/gray, no breeze, no power, with a whopping 207,600 miles on her.

The new car is a 2002 Legacy L wagon, silver/gray, auto, power goodies, cold breeze, with 28k on it.

She paid $13,500 for the Legacy and they literally gave her $1 for Amelia, hey, at least they were honest......they rolled the difference into the new loan. My mom still owed $2084.13 on Amelia. I felt good about the deal, the Legacy is very clean and should last a long, long, long time.

I'm glad to see my mom in a nice, reliable, safe AWD wagon......makes this kid feel a whole lot better.

Sounds like your mom did well, all things considered. That Sube was a good choice.

Akangl, why didn't your Mom just give you the car for an extra set of cheap wheels that would be a good gas saver? One Dollar?, you could have sold it for $10 and multiplied your investment ten fold! :o)

So why didn't you buy "Amelia" from 'yo momma for like $200 to have around as your "gas mileage car"? At $200, it would definetly make sense to do so....
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,440
They probably had to take the car in trade, in order to finance the $2K balance on the new one... I'm guessing, though... Probably could have bought it back from them after that for $100.

Got sidetracked at the local Toyota dealer by this:

2001 Volvo S60 T-5. 5 speed (yes, a handshaker, which is what sidetracked me).

black/black leather, roof, pretty well loaded (heated seats, nice stereo, probably has premium and climate packages). Think it might have upgraded wheels (looked like 17", but forgot to check).

Looked nice from the outside peeking in. Tires OK, probably original.

    24,000 miles, in S. NJ.

    Listed at $21,995 or so.

Just to compare, I also saw (different lot) the equivilant BMW.

2001 325i, 4 door, 5 speed, premium pack (no sport), leather/roof/CD/wood trim. Seemed clean. 55K on this one, also listed at $21,995.

I gotta start following the Jolie mantra, and stay off the car lots.

Try to buy Amelia back, the head guy wasn't there, so I couldn't do anything last night. I will stop by there on Friday and see what it will take to get the old girl back. Unfortunatly I'm a tad hesitant, Amelia has a very leaky head gasket (been that way for 3 years/100k, but is getting worse) and a few other issues. I doubt I'd offer over $100 for her, knowing that I'm going to have to drop $600 right away for front wheel bearings.

My mom had to trade her in because she owed $2k on the car. Otherwise she would have kept it, dang thing has been a super faithful car, doing 200 miles/day for the past few years without fail. Not to mention rescuing us when our truck broke down a few times. Original engine and transmission still in the car at 207k.

Can you give me a fair trade in value for
    1994 Gray Honda Civic LX?
    83,500 miles
    a/c
    airbags
mild rust on rear wheel wells
    moderate cosmetic damage to hood
not up to date on state inspection

Do you recommend getting it inspected prior to trade in?

    thanks

I'm wondering what the trade-in range is on my little subie:

    '97 Impreza Outback Sport wagon
67,000 miles, up to date on maintenance (dealer serviced updates at 29k, 45k, 60k miles - I bought it used at 29k)
dark green paint, minor scratches (typical inevitable minor parking lot dings), hood repainted 2 years ago (was keyed)
new brakes (front discs + rotors replaced, new rear shoes, drums resurfaced) at ~60k miles (about 7-8 months ago)
    2.2l, automatic transmission, AWD
alloy wheels, A/C, dual front air bags, power windows, roof rack, fog lights, aftermarket CD/mp3 player
clean condition, not perfect but not abused, no accidents
I live in Illinois (near chicago) and purchased her in Michigan, so she has seen her fair share of weather (fortunately not hail)

She still runs excellently, but I am looking to purchase a new car and do not have need of a second vehicle.
Any help with fair market trade-in values would be appreciated so I know what to expect from the local dealers.

As usual, Terry, you are on target...
Best offer for this car ('00 Olds Alero GLS Coupe, 20400 miles) was for CarMax for $7,100 (they rated it as excellent). Has anyone sold their car to them, is it as hassle-free as it sounds?

Another dealer offered $6850 on a trade in an effort to match CarMax, but they came in at $300 over invoice on the '04 Chevy Malibu Maxx and I did much better elsewhere. Another offered $4850 and they said to take CarMax cause they couldn't match it.

By the way, best deal so far on the Maxx is $500 under invoice + 4000 GM Owner Loyalty + 1000 GM Card, which puts me into the car for the mid 15's. To me, that's a great deal for a new car like that.

But, we still aren't sure if we're going to do it. Anyway, wanted to give you all the update.
  • corvettecorvette Member Posts: 11,270
Yes. I sold them my Jetta with a ton of miles on it. Zero hassle factor. They will want at least two keys for the car, and it will take about an hour after you sign the paperwork for them to prepare a bank draft for you.

Fantastic deal on the new Malibu. I can never get past the big honkin' grille on those, though.

    Hey Terry,

What does the great "Car-knack" see in the envelope for this one:

    2003 4Runner Limited 4WD
    4.7L V-8 w/ 5 spd Auto
    Silver with gray leather
    JBL sound system w/ 6-disc changer in-dash
X-REAS rear shocks w/ towing pkg
    Rear Spoiler
    Power Moonroof
    Front & Rear Side Airbags
    <12000 miles
as close to perfect in and out as you can expect
parked in the land of sky-high insurance claims & rates (aka Tax-achusetts)

Please let me know trade vs. retail rd.

    Thanks!

    Terry,
Considering trading in my 2002 Pathfinder LE. Any advice on what can be expected is appreciated.
    2002 Pathfinder LE Automatic 4X4
    Location: Washington, DC area(Northern VA)
    Miles: 27000
Condition: Very good, 1 small ding on door, paint good, interior clean
Options: Leather package w/side airbags, sunroof, PWR memory seats etc.
    Color: Merlot
I don't think I have missed anything. Thanks, Joe

======= I'm like the proverbial turtle, slow, but I finally get there ...

02 Pathy LE 4x4 with only 27k with the right color and the leather, side balloons, slider and it's a wonderful thing - it's an automatic ...

If this dude is waaay deep in rubber, no Quasimoto interiors and no paint by numbers .. then trade side, in and around the super tall $18's, maybe the low to mid $19's, but if it needs stuff start deducting ...

Let me know how it goes ...

                               Terry.

My quest for another Swedish car continues unabated. Where would you hit this, retail?

'98 Volvo S90, dark green over tan leather.
56,800 miles, CD, cold weather pack. It's at a non-local (Ford) dealer in central IL ('bout 3 hours from here.) They're asking $10,995, but judging by the on-line pic (looks like it was taken in the summer,) it's been there a while. What does the Oracle say?

    And your response...

    #16587 of 19723 Lancerfixer .. by rroyce10 Jan 15, 2004 (9:08 am)
...... It's kind of hard to say what he has in it, if he has had it since July . l.o.l .. (I will never understand that stuff)

These are nice vehicles .. well the miles are low for the year, we have the cold pack and some tunes and it's a Rwd in snowland, if he ran it through the auction he would "probably" see in and around that $7,5ish figure right now ... at $10,9 he's not asking the moon, but $8,9/$9,5 would be all the denaro on your side, it will depend on the history and how much you like it ...

    Terry.

This is the car that's been on the lot since August of '02. It's still there.Would I be out of line to try to take it off his hands in the $8k range?

    Big deal.

Locally, there's a Ford dealer with a '95 Club Wagon Chateau, that's been there since January.

January of the Year of Our Lord 2003.

Some of these dealerships have GOT to be in the money laundering business or something, 'cuz they sure ain't gonna make it selling cars.

    -Mathias
  • lancerfixerlancerfixer Member Posts: 1,284
That's really the only explanation...there was a '98 V70 that sat on the local Chevy dealer's lot for a year and a half until they sold it to an indie Volvo shop/used dealer in Iowa City. It was gone 2 weeks later. Maybe people just don't know where to look sometimes...
  • dkuhajdadkuhajda Member Posts: 487
How about more info on options, auto/manual, pw,pl,etc???

You have a 11 year old car that is in process of turning into rust, has significant damage to the hood. Given the lack of other information I have to assume it looks really poor and has not been maintained well at all.

But, it is a Honda, and on the retail side you could/maybe see $1500 even with it rusting out and damaged hood. In really good condition with no rust or damage, $3500 retail side.

Trade side, maybe $500 as she sits. $1000 if it is an automatic with all the bells and whistles, just a tad more if it drives out really well.

Any idea to trade-in and retail value?

    Terry-

Thanks for the info. This was for Red 96 Audi A4 Quattro trade for 03 Taurus, message number 19331.

I sold the car to private party for 6,8 cash (about 1" of $20's :-) ), after getting quoted 5,5 trade from local Ford dealer.

Bought 03 Silver Taurus SES Vulcan cloth no sunroof, 17,5 mi, your basic former Hertz/Avis special, CPO (includes 6/75k powertrain warranty). Cash dealer sale, $11,1.

    Thanks for the info,

  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
Well, I normally do, but this is Amelia we are talking about........she's nearly family. My mom owned that car for 7 years/200k miles. I'll only buy it if I can get it for $100 or less, I know too much about it and what's wrong with it.
  • lancerfixerlancerfixer Member Posts: 1,284
Leave the Cavalier alone, I say. Use the $100 elsewhere, like gas for the Explorer or a stack of For Sale signs for that Chevy Truck. :-)
I know your mom had it for a long time, let's put things in perspective here; it's a 200,000 mile Cavalier with a bad head gasket. Don't you think one junked Chevy in the family is enough? I mean, we're talking about a car that is currently more valuable in its ore state.

Can you give me a fair trade in value for a
2000 Honda Civic EX 4dr sedan?

Vintage Plum Color (Honda's official color name)
    82,000 miles
    a/c
    airbags
    power windows
    power locks
    power side mirrors
    power moonroof with wind deflector
    Anti-lock brakes
    5 speed manual transmission
paint still shines but with minor dings (car doors banging it, etc)
Oil changes, tire rotations, etc performed on schedule

The only flaw is that the right side passenger window control does not always work (you have to control the window from the drivers side)

    Thanks

====== Miles are on the lowish side and these hot little Honda's are doing some pretty strong money, and now that you have summer in Dallas it should be an easy sell trade or retail .....

If it's a nice one, looks and feels new, deep round things, service is 100%, no paintwork and the interior looks "hovered" in .. then trade side, the mid to high $20,0 figure, "might" get a dealer to drop the low low low $21 figure in it if it's really nice ....

...... Hows the Miata doing ..?

2001 Volvo S60 T-5, 5 speed and it's a meat clever, color is good for the area and the miles are low ... if the history is good and it's clean machine, then it might hit the table at the mid to high $17's .. $21,900 .? that's a fair *asking* price, but I'm sure they won't have a line of folks waiting for it, it's a handshaker, not Ronald Reagan .... I think $19,9/$20,5 would just about kill it.

show up with a roll of fifties, and it should get his attention. Just make sure he takes the petunias out of it (planter reference joke).

Do yo have any concern that sitting for so long might have had a negative effect on the mechanical condition, or just plan on doing a full fluid/filter/belt refresh?

You're in Iowa, right? If so, a friend of mine is moving to Des Moines(from maryland)and is trying to figure out the best place to a) rent temporarily and b) buy a small house at a reasonable price, close to downtown (she doesn't want to have a long drive). Any particular towns/areas come to mind? She doesn't have kids, but wants to be convenient to whatever passes for the middle-aged singles scene.

Of course, if you are not in that area, never mind.

Also, do you get lots of snow out there? If so, I'm pretty sure there will be a nice G35 for sale by fall (more comfortable with AWD).

since I'm thinking of it, what would be a realistic trade value for:

2003 G35 sedan, auto, dark blue/tan leather, premium package w/roof, 20K on the clock, like new (garaged and pampered). This would end up being in scenic Iowa.

Speaking of location, how much more would the same car be worth in Maryland?

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

  • lancerfixerlancerfixer Member Posts: 1,284
A G35 is a little out of my price range. :)
As far as the Des Moines area goes, I live on the eastern side of the state (Cedar Rapids) but I've got a friend who really likes Ankeny (he's from CA, living in Iowa...our wives imported us both.) Nearer to downtown, I'm not sure. I could do some research and find out.
Actually, the best place to live in Iowa is Iowa City, but that'd be a rough commute to Des Moines.

As far as the S90 goes, if I were to pick it up, a tuneup, complete fluid change, and timing belt swap were in my immediate plans.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,330
Thanks for the info. The G35 was for Terry though.

I had to look up Iowa on the map to even figure out where it was. Didn't realize it was so far north, so I assume it must be snowy.

BTW, I personally have a soft spot for the S90s. Last of the "real" Volvos, and frankly pretty similar to a G35 in size/room/layout. Great seats too. And a huge trunk. All for less than the price of a Kia Rio demo.

What would be a reasonable price to pay for this at a dealership ? I live in Wisconsin.

    Thanks for the advice.

Lancer.........yeah, I'm thinking that too. The car probably has 20/30k left in it before major stuff goes. It still runs fine, needs coolant every 2 weeks, uses/leaks a quart of oil every 3k, its worst problems are the wheel bearings and the severely broken windshield. Oh and the inside looks like a bad Taliban camp.

corvette.......yes she owned it for 7 years and still owed $2k on it. When my dad left her she had to refinance the car and stretch the payments way out to lower them so she could afford to keep it. That's why she still owed so much.

On another note, I'm getting drug car shopping tomorrow (against my will I swear). Hubby is thinking we need a crewcab 1/2 ton short bed truck to pull the travel trailer, wants to look at the Nissan Titan. He's miffed at my Explorer which is back to 16 mpg as its best hwy mileage, he said for that mileage we might as well have a useful truck. Whatever, he makes the money, I'm just along for the ride.

    Hi Terry:

A friend of mine has a 2001 Pathfinder SE and wants to trade it in for a 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE AWD due to impending increased family needs. So what would he expect to get, and more importantly what should he be expecting in terms of difference b/w his trade-in and his purchase price ?

    To trade-in:

    2001 Pathfinder LE
    70K big miles
    Grey/charcoal cloth interior
    Auto
New sneakers (less than 10K miles new)
invasion of the fries (2 kids ages 3 and 6)
    no visible dings
    looks and drives like a 2003 :)
    So Cal located (San Diego)

    To buy:

    2004 Sienna XLE AWD
Loaded with everything including DVD rear ent.

What say you, oh oracle of Florida ?

    Thanks
